The problem of the appearance of carbon inclusions in single-crystal silicon carbide ingots grown by the modified Lely method (the so-called graphitization of the ingot) is analyzed. It is shown that the process of graphitization of the ingot is not related to a deficit of silicon in the growth cell; in contrast, it is excess of silicon at the growth surface that inhibits the ingot growth rate and gives rise to intense corrosion of the graphite fittings. 相似文献

An unpackaged microchip is used as the sensing element in a miniaturized gaseous proportional chamber. This letter reports on the fabrication and performance of a complete radiation imaging detector based on this principle. Our fabrication schemes are based on wafer-scale and chip-scale postprocessing. Compared to hybrid-assembled gaseous detectors, our microsystem shows superior alignment precision and energy resolution, and offers the capability to unambiguously reconstruct 3D radiation tracks on the spot. 相似文献

InfoSleuth is an agent-based system for information discovery and retrieval in a dynamic, open environment. Brokering in InfoSleuth is a matchmaking process, recommending agents that provide services to agents requesting services. This paper discusses InfoSleuth's distributed multibroker design and implementation. InfoSleuth's brokering function combines reasoning over both the syntax and semantics of agents in the domain. This means the broker must reason over explicitly advertised information about agent capabilities to determine which agent can best provide the requested services. Robustness and scalability issues dictate that brokering must be distributable across collaborating agents. Our multibroker design is a peer-to-peer system that requires brokers to advertise to and receive advertisements from other brokers. Brokers collaborate during matchmaking to give a collective response to requests initiated by nonbroker agents. This results in a robust, scalable brokering system. 相似文献

Co-planar strip (CPS) transmission lines, aimed at operating up to sub-millimetre wavelengths, were periodically loaded by lumped capacitances and inductances in series and shunt configuration, respectively. Under this condition, propagation on the line is backward with group and phase velocities of opposite signs. The transmission lines were fabricated onto a quartz substrate by e-beam patterning and thin film deposition, silicon nitride and gold layers, on a deep sub-micron scale (~200 nm). A direct evidence of left-handedness between 160 and 380 GHz was achieved via the tracking of phase advance in a differential phase experiment using electro-optic sampling. The comparison between modelling results by electromagnetic full wave circuit analysis and experiment was performed in the time and frequency domains. It shows a good agreement in the dispersion characteristics and ultra-fast variations in the transmitted signals. A number of problems concerning the Griffith criterion for brittle polymers have been considered. A general formula for the
energy of deformation of a stressed sample with surface and internal cracks has been derived. This energy was calculated simultaneously
for the plane and plane-deformed states of this sample. The commonly accepted view that the Griffith criterion determines
a quasi-safe stress that differs markedly from the athermal-fracture criterion was verified.

Recently Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopic imaging has been used as a tool to detect the changes in cellular
composition that may reflect the onset of a disease. This approach has been investigated as a mean of monitoring the change
of the biochemical composition of cells and providing a diagnostic tool for various human cancers and other diseases. The
discrimination between different types of tissue based upon spectroscopic data is often achieved using various multivariate
clustering techniques. However, the number of clusters is a common unknown feature for the clustering methods, such as hierarchical
cluster analysis, k-means and fuzzy c-means. In this study, we apply a FCM based clustering algorithm to obtain the best number
of clusters as given by the minimum validity index value. This often results in an excessive number of clusters being created
due to the complexity of this biochemical system. A novel method to automatically merge clusters was developed to try to address
this problem. Three lymph node tissue sections were examined to evaluate our new method. These results showed that this approach
can merge the clusters which have similar biochemistry. Consequently, the overall algorithm automatically identifies clusters
that accurately match the main tissue types that are independently determined by the clinician. 相似文献
