We studied energy efficiency trends in the Dutch manufacturing industry between 1995 and 2003 using indicators based on publicly available physical production and specific energy consumption data. We estimated annual primary energy efficiency improvements in this period at 1.3% on average, with the individual sub-sectors ranging between −0.1% and 1.5%. Energy efficiency developments with respect to electricity, fuels/heat and non-energy use have been monitored separately and are shown to differ significantly (for the sum of the sectors studied: 1.9% for electricity, 2.6% for fuels/heat and −0.1% for non-energy use). We combined our results with those from a previous, similar study for 1980–1995 and show that over the full time period, efficiency improvements of 1% per year have been achieved on average. Based on comparison with other sources and a detailed uncertainty analysis, we conclude that we developed a reliable top-down monitoring framework for studying energy efficiency trends of the manufacturing industry that can also be applied in other countries where similar data are available. We also showed that substantial differences exist between energy consumption data available from energy statistics and according to the Long Term Agreement monitoring reports, stressing the need for ongoing independent checks of available energy consumption data to avoid problems in future evaluations of energy efficiency policies.  相似文献

This paper focuses on the kinetics of photocatalytic removal and carbon mineralization of gaseous trichloroethylene (TCE) on near-UV irradiated TiO2 Degussa P25. Experiments were carried out in a flat-plate photoreactor at TCE inlet concentrations of 100–500 ppmv, relative humidities (RH) of 0–62% and gas residence times of 2.5–60.3 s. Gas residence time distribution (RTD) curves revealed an axial dispersed plug flow in the photoreactor with Peclet numbers above 59.4. For all experimental conditions, the carbon mineralization efficiency (5.1–73.0%) was lower than the removal efficiency (8.6–99.9%) and dichloroacetylchloride (DCAC) was detected as a gas-phase degradation product. TCE removal efficiencies increased with lower TCE inlet concentrations, lower RH and higher gas residence times. Evaluating different kinetic models by least squares analysis, it was shown that the Langmuir–Hinshelwood (LH) model could not give an adequate fitting to the experimental results. A new kinetic model, explicitly taking into account electron–hole pair reactions, was developed based on linear TCE adsorption–desorption equilibrium and first order reaction kinetics. The new kinetic model described the experimental results in a more accurate way, as exemplified by a more randomly distributed set of residuals and by a reduction of the sum of squares (SSQ) by a factor 1.7–8.5. The effect of TCE gas-phase concentration, RH and light intensity on adsorption–desorption kinetics, electron–hole concentrations and chemical conversion rates is discussed.  相似文献

MR offers powerful tools to measure molecular diffusion in intact tissues under in vivo conditions. This review focuses on the use of diffusion-weighted MR imaging (DW-MRI) and spectroscopy (DW-MRS) to noninvasively study structural and functional aspects of skeletal muscle. It will be shown that DW-MRI allows for a high-resolution reconstruction of the orientation of the muscle fibers, which represents vital input for mathematical models of muscle biomechanics and an improved understanding of contractile dysfunction in muscle disease. DW-MRS can be used to quantitatively measure the translational displacement of endogenous metabolites in intact muscle. DW-MRS is of fundamental interest because it enables one to probe the in situ status of the intracellular space from the diffusion characteristics of the metabolites, while at the same time providing information on the intrinsic diffusion properties of the metabolites themselves. This yields information on cellular architecture and on the intrinsic capacity for diffusional mass transport.  相似文献

A consistent set of 32 group additive values is determined for the Arrhenius parameters of carbon‐centered radical addition to oxygenates and the reverse β‐scission of oxygenate compounds, covering a wide temperature range (300–2500 K). These values are derived based on a training set of 66 reactions for which the Arrhenius parameters are calculated using the CBS‐QB3 method in the high‐pressure limit, including corrections for hindered internal rotation. The accuracy of the model is established by comparing model predictions with an ab initio (AI) validation set containing 24 reactions. The mean factor of deviation between the group additively calculated and the AI rate coefficients is 3, for both radical additions and β‐scissions. Therefore, the developed group additive model, constituting an extension of the existing model for carbon‐centered radical additions and β‐scissions of hydrocarbons, can be safely applied for an accurate prediction of kinetics of the corresponding reactions involving oxygenate compounds. © 2015 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 62: 802–814, 2016  相似文献

A novel method for detection of hydrogen by an electron beam in extremely thin samples is described. Elastically scattered electrons impinging with 20-30 keV on a thin formvar film were detected at a scattering angle near 45 degrees. In these large momentum transfer elastic collisions a clear separation of the signal of hydrogen and heavier elements was found. By changing the momentum transfer we can verify that the hydrogen signal is not due to inelastic energy loss contributions. The width of the hydrogen elastic peak is much larger than the elastic peaks due to heavy elements (carbon and oxygen). The ratio of the hydrogen elastic peak and the main elastic peak is smaller than expected by 30-50% depending on the energy of the impinging electron. This could be due to electronic excitations directly coupled to the elastic collision. The stability of the formvar film under electron radiation was studied. A reduction in thickness of the film with increasing fluence, as well as the preferential depletion of hydrogen, was found. Possible improvements of the experimental configuration for this type of experiments are discussed.  相似文献

A Johann-type spectrometer with five spherically bent crystals and a pixel detector was constructed for a range of hard x-ray photon-in photon-out synchrotron techniques, covering a Bragg-angle range of 60°-88°. The spectrometer provides a sub emission line width energy resolution from sub-eV to a few eV and precise energy calibration, better than 1.5 eV for the full range of Bragg angles. The use of a pixel detector allows fast and easy optimization of the signal-to-background ratio. A concentration detection limit below 0.4 wt% was reached at the Cu Kα(1) line. The spectrometer is designed as a modular mobile device for easy integration in a multi-purpose hard x-ray synchrotron beamline, such as the SuperXAS beamline at the Swiss Light Source.  相似文献

This paper describes the electroactuation of microcantilevers coated on one side with cationic polyelectrolyte brushes. We observed very strong cantilever deflection by alternating the potential on the cantilever between +0.5 and -0.5 V at frequencies up to 0.25 Hz. The actuation resulted from significant increases in the expansive stresses in the polymer brush layer at both negative and positive potentials. However, the deflection at negative bias was significantly larger. We have developed a theoretical framework that correlates conformational changes of the polymer chains in the brush layer with the reorganization of ions due to the potential bias. The model predicts a strong increase in the polymer volume fraction, close to the interface, which results in large expansive stresses that bend the cantilever at negative potentials. The model also predicts that the actuation responds much stronger to negative potentials than positive potentials, as observed in the experiments.  相似文献

The role of macroinvertebrates and diatoms as indicator for metal pollution was investigated by assessing both biota along a metal gradient in the Belgian river the Dommel. Macroinvertebrates and diatoms were sampled in summer and winter and physical-chemical characteristics of the water were measured at four different sample periods and related to sediment characteristics. Although metal concentrations, except cadmium, in the water nowhere exceeded water quality standards, high metal concentrations were measured in the sediment, indicating historical contamination of the Dommel. At the sites that were situated downstream of the pollution source, high levels of conductivity and chloride were measured in the water. Redundancy Analysis (RDA) indicated pH, phosphate and zinc as the significant environmental variables explaining each respectively 7.7%, 11.6% and 22.6% of the macroinvertebrate community composition. Two clusters could be separated, with Gammarus pulex, Leptocerus interruptus, Baetis rhodani and Cloeon dipterum associated with low zinc concentrations and Tubificidae, Asellus aquaticus, Erpobdella sp. and Chironomus thummi-plumosus associated with higher zinc concentrations. Ammonium (10.6%), conductivity (16.5%), chloride (11.4%) and zinc (5.9%) turned out to be significant variables explaining the diatom community structure. Based on physical-chemical differences and species composition, three different groups could be separated. With this Tabellaria flocculosa and Fragilaria capucina var. rumpens were associated with low metal concentrations, Gomphonema parvulum and Nitzschia palea with elevated concentrations and Eolimna minima and Sellaphora seminulum with high zinc concentrations. In conclusion, the diatom community best reflected the metal gradient. With regard to water quality indices, those based on macroinvertebrates best followed the metal pollution gradient and were most strongly correlated with physical-chemical variables of water and sediment. This study indicated that to assess the effect of metal pollution in lowland rivers, the combined use of macroinvertebrates and diatoms is more appropriate than the use of both biota separately.  相似文献
