The possibility of supporting high level languages through intermediate languages to be used for direct interpretation and as intermediate forms in compilers is investigated. An accomplished project in the construction of an interpreter and a code generator using one common intermediate form is evaluated. Parallel HI and virus-elution-from-erythrocytes-inhibition (a simplified method for titration of neuraminidase antibody) tests were used for examinations of 1117 blood serum specimens from 440 adults and children under study, 5250 single serum specimens from healthy subjects from birth to 65 years of age, 38 paired serum specimens from children who experienced influenza A/Texas/1/77 disease in the epidemic of 1979-1980, and 590 paired serum specimens from subjects immunized with influenza vaccines. In 7%-23% of influenza patients and immunized subjects antibody rise was observed to only one of the influenza A virus surface antigens, hemagglutinin or neuraminidase. The protective activity of antibody to influenza A virus neuraminidase was as good as that of antihemagglutinins. Both kinds of antibody interacted in protection against the disease. Antineuraminidase antibody was found to affect the decrease in severity of the infectious process in natural infection with influenza A. The formation of immunological memory in the system of synthesis of antihemagglutinins and antineuraminidase antibodies was shown to have features in common. The pattern of heterologous immune responses in immunized subjects and patients with influenza showed all antigenic varieties of neuraminidase N2 as well as neuraminidases N1 and N2 to share common cross-reacting determinants.  相似文献

Convection–diffusion equations are difficult to solve when the convection term dominates because most solution methods give solutions which oscillate in space. Previous criteria based on the one-dimensional convection–diffusion equation have shown that finite difference and Galerkin (linear or quadratic basis functions) will not give oscillatory solutions provided the Peclet number times the mesh size (Pe Δx) is below a critical value. These criteria are based on the solution at the nodes, and ensure that the nodal values are monotone. Similar criteria are developed here for other methods: quadratic Galerkin with upwind weighting, cubic Galerkin, orthogonal collocation on finite elements with quadratic, cubic or quartic polynomials using Lagrangian interpolation, cubic or quartic polynominals using Hermite interpolation, and the method of moments. The nodal values do not oscillate for collocation or moments methods with Hermite cubic polynomials regardless of the value of Pe Δx. A new criterion is developed for all methods based on the monotonicity of the solutions throughout the domain. This criterion is more restrictive than one based only on the nodal values. All methods that are second order (Δx2) or better in truncation error give oscillatory solutions (based on the entire domain) unless Pe Δx is below a critical value. This value ranges from 2 for finite difference methods to 4·6 for Hermite, quartic, collocation methods.  相似文献

Click-evoked auditory brainstem responses were recorded in a prosimian primate, the bush baby (Otolemur garnettii), before and after depletion of serotonin (by systemic injection of para-chlorophenylalanine; pCPA) and up to 20 days after discontinuing pCPA injections (during the recovery of serotonin). Biphasic 100 micros clicks were presented at five repetition rates (13.2, 33.2, 53.2, 73.2, and 93.2 clicks/s; RATE) and sound pressure levels (SPL) were varied in 10 dB steps from 120-60 dB SPL peak equivalent. Absolute latencies of vertex-positive peaks I, III, IV, and V were measured from click onset. The latencies from each wave were statistically analyzed with a two-way analysis of variance using either RATE or SPL (but not both) and TIME AFTER pCPA as independent variables. Prior to pCPA, brainstem response latencies increased as a function of both decreasing SPL and increasing RATE. After pCPA, these normal increases in wave latency increased even more, particularly in response to high click rates. After pCPA was discontinued, measurements taken at weekly intervals indicated that latencies decreased after 1 week, increased to the highest values recorded after 2 weeks, and returned to normal after 3 weeks. These dynamic changes were interpreted to be the result of postsynaptic receptor up-regulation during the 10 days of continuous pCPA administration. These results suggest that serotonin plays an important role in sensory processing at the cellular level and, tonically, facilitates the auditory brainstem response to sound.  相似文献

Environmental reservoirs of antibiotic resistance are important to human health, and recent evidence indicates that terrestrial resistance reservoirs have expanded during the antibiotic era. Our aim was to study the impact of Cu pollution as a selective driver for the spread of antibiotic resistance in soil. Bacteria were extracted from a well-characterized soil site solely contaminated with CuSO? more than 80 years ago and from a corresponding control soil. Pollution-induced bacterial community tolerance (PICT) to Cu and a panel of antibiotics was determined by a novel cultivation-independent approach based on [3H]bromodeoxyuridine (BrdU) incorporation into DNA and by resistance profiling of soil bacterial isolates on solid media. High Cu exposure selected for Cu-tolerant bacterial communities but also coselected for increased community-level tolerance to tetracycline and vancomycin. Cu-resistant isolates showed significantly higher incidence of resistance to five out of seven tested antibiotics (tetracycline, olaquindox, nalidixic acid, chloramphenicol, and ampicillin) than Cu-sensitive isolates. Our BrdU-PICT data demonstrate for the first time that soil Cu exposure coselects for resistance to clinically important antibiotics (e.g., vancomycin) at the bacterial community-level. Our study further indicates that Cu exposure provides a strong selection pressure for the expansion of the soil bacterial resistome.  相似文献

In this study, the acoustic emission activity of cement pastes was investigated during the first day of hydration. Deaired, fresh cement pastes were cast in sealed sample holders designed to minimize friction and restraint. The majority of acoustic emission events occurred in lower water to cement ratio pastes, while cement pastes with higher water to cement ratios showed significantly less acoustic activity. These acoustic events occurred around the time of setting. A layer of water on the surface of the cement pastes substantially reduced acoustic emission activity at the time of setting. According to these experimental results, the acoustic emission measured around setting time was attributed to cavitation events occurring in the pores of the cement paste due to self-desiccation. This paper shows how acoustic emission might be used to indicate the time when the fluid–solid transition occurs in a cement paste, often referred to as time-zero. Knowledge of time-zero is fundamental for determining when mechanical properties develop and in calculations of residual stresses.  相似文献

The properties of 12 micro-fibre cloths and two ultra-micro-fibre cloths were studied and compared with conventional cleaning methods. The cloths made from micro-fibre and ultra-micro-fibre had very good cleaning effect. Scrubbing Plexiglas caused pitting and scratch marks on the Plexiglas surface with the largest damage being caused in dry condition. All the cloths tested were wear resistant. Most of the cloths showed high friction against the surfaces in damp condition. Micro- and ultra-micro-fibre cloths are good alternatives to conventional methods for cleaning interior surfaces. Furthermore, good cleaning results can be achieved without any use of polluting cleaning chemicals.  相似文献

The thermoelectric (TE) power output, \(f_P\), and conversion efficiency, \(f_{\eta }\), for segmented thermoelectric generators (TEGs) have been optimized by spatially distributing two TE materials (BiSbTe and Skutterudite) using a numerical gradient-based topology optimization approach. The material properties are temperature-dependent, and the segmented TEGs are designed for various heat transfer rates at the hot and cold reservoirs. The topology-optimized design solutions are characterized by spike-shaped features which enable the designs to operate in an intermediate state between the material phases. Important design parameters, such as the device dimensions, objective functions and heat transfer rates, are identified, investigated and discussed. Comparing the topology optimization approach with the classical segmentation approach, the performance improvements of \(f_P\) and \(f_{\eta }\) design problems depend on the heat transfer rates at the hot and the cold reservoirs, the objective function and the device dimensions. The largest performance improvements for the problems investigated are \(\approx \) 6%.  相似文献

Glycosphingolipids are found on all vertebrate cells and constitute major cell surface determinants on all nerve cells, where they contribute to cellular diversity and function. We report a method for the analysis of glycosphingolipid metabolism in single cells. The ganglioside GM1 was tagged with the fluorescent dye tetramethylrhodamine. This labeled compound was taken up and metabolized by a culture of pituitary tumor (AtT-20) cells. After 50 h, the cells were formalin fixed. Cells were aspirated into a fused-silica capillary and lysed, and components were separated by capillary electrophoresis with a laser-induced fluorescence detector. All metabolic products that retained the fluorescent dye could be detected at the low-zeptomole level. A total of 54 AtT-20 cells were individually analyzed using this procedure. The electrophoretic profiles were remarkably reproducible, which facilitated identification of components based on the migration time of fluorescently labeled standards. Eleven components were detected, and the average peak height of these components spanned more than 2 orders of magnitude, so that trace metabolites can be detected in the presence of abundant components. The most highly abundant components generated 10% relative standard deviation in normalized abundance. The average cell took up roughly 2 amol (10(6) copies) of the labeled substrate. This method allows determination of cell-to-cell diversity and regulation of glycosphingolipid metabolism.  相似文献
