The degradation of the adsorbent Tenax TA was studied qualitatively by sampling oxidants common in indoor air followed by thermal desorption and gas chromatography. A total of 25 degradation products were identified. Several degradation products not reported previously were identified: 9 for nitrogen dioxide; 11 for ozone; 2 for hydrogen peroxide; 12 for hydroxyl radical; 1 for ozone-limonene mixtures, but none for nitrogen oxide. Whereas ozone shows a complex degradation of the adsorbent, hydrogen peroxide and limonene--ozone mixtures show few products. Nitrogen dioxide and the hydroxyl radical behave almost identically and produce 2,6-diphenyl-p-benzoquinone as the major degradation product. Reactant specific degradation products were identified for ozone (11) and nitrogen dioxide (1).  相似文献

During atresia of bovine follicles, granulosa cells are lost through the controlled form of cell death, apoptosis. The purpose of this study was to characterize the regulation of apoptotic death of granulosa cells in dominant bovine follicles during the first wave of follicular development. Dominant follicles were collected from Holstein heifers on days 4, 6 or 8 of the first follicular wave (n = 5/day). Regulation of apoptosis in granulosa cells was examined by annexin V and propidium iodide staining; measurement of relative levels of mRNA encoding Bcl-2, Bcl-xL and Bax; and activity of caspase-3, -8 and -9. Steady-state levels of mRNA encoding four oxidative stress-response proteins were determined. Compared with day 4, the incidence of apoptotic and nonviable granulosa cells tended to increase on day 6, and numbers of nonviable cells were higher on day 8. The ratios of relative levels of mRNA encoding Bcl-2 to Bax and Bcl-xL to Bax were higher on day 6 than days 4 and 8. Activity of caspases-3 and -9 in granulosa cells did not change among the 3 days, while caspase-8 activity decreased on day 8 compared with days 4 and 6. Amounts of GSHPx, MnSOD and Cu/ZnSOD mRNA in granulosa cells were higher on day 8 than day 6. In theca interna, amounts of Cu/ZnSOD mRNA decreased between days 4 and 6. From the decreased production of estradiol and increased numbers of apoptotic and nonviable granulosa cells, we conclude that atresia of the dominant follicle is initiated between days 4 and 6 of the first follicular wave. However, apoptosis of granulosa cells does not appear to be initiated by changes in expression of oxidative stress-response proteins.  相似文献

Three in vitro experiments using a rumen fluid buffer system were performed to investigate the effect of addition of 4 experimental phytases (Phy1, Phy2, Phy3, and Phy4) compared with no addition of phytase on feed inositol phosphate hydrolysis in wheat and rapeseed cake to determine which of the 4 phytases was most suitable under rumen-like conditions. The feedstuffs were incubated with a mixture of physiological buffer, ruminal fluid, and exogenous phytase at pH 6.2, after which the samples were incubated for different periods. Incubations were stopped using HCl, and the samples were analyzed for inositol phosphates via high performance ion chromatography. Addition of phytase (Phy1) resulted in enhanced degradation of myo-inositol hexakisphosphate (InsP6) in rapeseed cake, whereas addition of exogenous phytase did not improve the degradation of InsP6 in wheat. Only rapeseed cake was therefore used subsequently. All 4 phytases increased degradation of InsP6 in rapeseed cake in the in vitro system, and degradability of InsP6 increased with higher incubation time and higher phytase dosages, independent of phytase. Addition of 2 units of phytase per gram of substrate of the phytases Phy1, Phy2, Phy3, and Phy4 led to an undegraded InsP6 content of 56, 49, 70, and 18%, respectively, when incubated with rapeseed cake for 6 h, indicating that Phy2 and Phy4 were the most effective phytases. However, Phy2 had a higher specific activity than Phy4, as 60% of the original InsP6 content was remaining after 3 h when 5 mg of enzyme protein per gram of substrate of Phy2 was added to rapeseed cake, whereas 150 mg of enzyme protein per gram of substrate of Phy4 was necessary to achieve a similar result. Therefore, Phy2 appeared to be most applicable under rumen-like conditions.  相似文献

Background

The primary aim of this study was to assess whether exposure during fetal life to extra vitamin D from food fortification was associated with a reduction in the risk of subsequently developing gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Furthermore, we examined whether the effect of the vitamin D from fortification differed by women’s season of birth.

Methods

This semi-ecological study is based on the cancellation in 1985 of the mandatory policy to fortify margarine with vitamin D in Denmark, with inclusion of entire national adjacent birth cohorts either exposed or unexposed to extra vitamin D in utero. The identification of GDM cases later in life among both exposure groups was based on the Danish national health registers. Logistic regression analyses generating odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) were performed.

Results

Women who were prenatally exposed to the extra vitamin D from fortification tended to have a lower risk of subsequently developing GDM than unexposed women (OR 0.87, 95%CI 0.74,1.02, P?=?0.08). When analyses were stratified by women’s season of birth, exposed women born in spring had a lower risk of developing GDM compared to unexposed subjects (OR 0.68, 95%CI 0.50,0.94, p?=?0.02).

Conclusion

This study suggests that prenatal exposure to extra vitamin D from mandatory fortification may lower the risk of developing gestational diabetes among spring-born women.

Investigated the effects of subsequent related information and individual differences in cognitive flexibility on prose recall. 70 undergraduates read a passage and then were given either consistent or contradictory incidental information. Errors in cued recall, reflecting the nature of the subsequent information, were more frequently produced after a 3-wk delay than after 2 days. These results were consistent with R. J. Spiro's (1975) findings with free recall. In addition, 3-wk Ss were more confident about correct recall than errors, indicating that errors resulted, in part, from retrieval processes. The negative relationship of spontaneous flexibility and the positive relationship of adaptive flexibility to constructive error are interpreted in terms of storage and retrieval effects in memory. To realize the commercial potential of dielectric elastomers, reliable, large‐scale film production is required. Ensuring proper mixing and subsequently avoiding demixing after, for example, pumping and coating of elastomer premix in an online process is not facile. Weibull analysis of the electrical breakdown strength of dielectric elastomer films is shown to be an effective means of evaluating the film quality. The analysis is shown to be capable of distinguishing between proper and improper mixing schemes where similar analysis of ultimate mechanical properties fails to distinguish.

Three of the most common methods (two with parallel flow and one with radial flow) for determination of the in-plane permeability tensor are studied both theoretically and experimentally. An error analysis shows that the difference between the methods is negligible if the error levels are equal. However, the radial flow method is found to be susceptible to large errors from mold deflection in an experimental comparison between the methods. Additional experiments with the radial flow method in a stiffer mold show that the method gives the same values for the permeability tensor as the other two methods. A new method with multiple cavities in parallel is proposed that combines the simplicity of the radial flow method with the stiff mold of the parallel flow method. Only mass and time need to be measured in one experiment and it eliminates the need to measure fluid viscosity, temperature, and injection pressure. The method depends on the availability of a reference material with known permeability.  相似文献
