ABSTRACTGestural interaction devices emerged and originated various studies on multimodal human–computer interaction to improve user experience (UX). However, there is a knowledge gap regarding the use of these devices to enhance learning. We present an exploratory study which analysed the UX with a multimodal immersive videogame prototype, based on a Portuguese historical/cultural episode. Evaluation tests took place in high school environments and public videogaming events. Two users would be present simultaneously in the same virtual reality (VR) environment: one as the helmsman aboard Vasco da Gama’s fifteenth-century Portuguese ship and the other as the mythical Adamastor stone giant at the Cape of Good Hope. The helmsman player wore a VR headset to explore the environment, whereas the giant player used body motion to control the giant, and observed results on a screen, with no headset. This allowed a preliminary characterisation of UX, identifying challenges and potential use of these devices in multi-user virtual learning contexts. We also discuss the combined use of such devices, towards future development of similar systems, and its implications on learning improvement through multimodal human–computer interaction. 相似文献

This paper analyzes the application of Moran’s index and Geary’s coefficient to the characterization of lung nodules as malignant
or benign in computerized tomography images. The characterization method is based on a process that verifies which combination
of measures, from the proposed measures, has been best able to discriminate between the benign and malignant nodules using
stepwise discriminant analysis. Then, a linear discriminant analysis procedure was performed using the selected features to
evaluate the ability of these in predicting the classification for each nodule. In order to verify this application we also
describe tests that were carried out using a sample of 36 nodules: 29 benign and 7 malignant. A leave-one-out procedure was
used to provide a less biased estimate of the linear discriminator’s performance. The two analyzed functions and its combinations
have provided above 90% of accuracy and a value area under receiver operation characteristic (ROC) curve above 0.85, that
indicates a promising potential to be used as nodules signature measures. The preliminary results of this approach are very
encouraging in characterizing nodules using the two functions presented.

The MeX? software is a useful tool for tridimensional data collection for surface evaluation and could be relevant to evaluate the same specimen in different phases of the study, assuming repeated measures of dental enamel roughness. The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of sample metallization for dental enamel roughness analysis with 3D images reconstructed using MeX? software from Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) images. The influence of 74.98% (%mol/mol) argon?oxygen plasma for carbon layer removal on surface roughness of the metallized specimen was also evaluated. Dental enamel specimens were prepared for SEM analysis with and without carbon metallization using conventional or environmental modes. Argon?oxygen plasma for carbon layer removal was used and surface roughness was re‐evaluated. Roughness obtained by SEM and MeX? reconstructed images, with or without metallization, did not differ. No significant alteration on surface roughness after carbon layer removal using plasma was found. SEM baseline evaluation using conventional mode without sample preparation and in environmental mode were not comparable. Roughness of enamel 3D images reconstructed with MeX? software from SEM images, with or without metallization was similar. The 74.98% (%mol/mol) argon?oxygen plasma removed the carbon layer with no effect on enamel roughness. 相似文献

Received video quality is dependent on the available link rate and the packet loss ratio, which are correlated in a busy network link. Even low packet loss ratios (PLRs) can significantly reduce the video quality. In this paper, a packet level parity Forward Error Correction (FEC) is applied to the video stream in order to reduce the video PLR. A constant gross data rate is assumed, such that adding a FEC leads to a decrease in effective video data rate. The FEC block is truncated at the end of each video VOP, such that there are no inter-VOP dependencies for FEC correction. An algorithm is proposed to optimize the FEC length, based on the Quality of Experience as modelled by the ITU-T R G.1070 standard. It is shown that the optimization algorithm can significantly increase the video quality, without increasing the gross data rate. The algorithm has been evaluated both analytically and through simulations, which confirm the very significant increases in subjective video quality. 相似文献

Plasma powder surfacing is one of the latest processes for application of coatings, with control of dilution as its main feature. Surfacing with superduplex stainless steels is an interesting option for the construction and repair of equipment for applications in a highly corrosive environment, allowing the desired characteristics to be achieved: corrosion resistance and good mechanical properties. The aim of this work is to assess the ferrite content in the weld metal and the mechanical characteristics via microhardness profiles in surfacing of C-Mn steel pipes with deposition of UNS S32760 by plasma powder surfacing. Welding operations were carried out on pipes with deposition of SDSS, employing three welding heat input levels, varying the welding speed or the welding current. Then the geometry was analysed, the ferrite content in the weld metal was quantified and the microhardness profile was recorded. Variation in welding heat input caused changes in weld bead geometry, with variation in the welding current producing the most significant changes. Increase in heat input caused decrease in ferrite content of the weld metal. Regarding microhardness, only the condition with a higher level of welding current gave sufficiently high levels of microhardness in the weld metal. 相似文献

Metal-silicon-boron (Me-Si-B) alloys have been extensively studied due to their potential to develop high temperature structural materials. In this sense, information from accurate phase diagram becomes important. This work presents results of detailed microstructural characterization of as-cast hafnium-silicon alloys to assess the liquid composition associated to the invariant reactions of this system. The alloys were prepared by arc melting from high purity hafnium and silicon under argon atmosphere. The phases present in the alloys were identified by scanning electron microscopy and x-ray diffraction. Important discrepancies were found between the data obtained in this work and those of the most recent phase diagrams, especially the composition of the liquid phase in the following reactions: L + Hf5Si3 ? Hf2Si, 32.5 at.% Si instead of 21 at.% Si, L + Hf3Si2 ? Hf5Si3, 37.0 at.% Si instead of 30.3 at.% Si and L + Hf5Si4 ? HfSi, 52.5 at.% Si instead of 58.3 at.% Si. 相似文献
