A laboratory‐sized two‐roll mill was used to incorporate rice husk ash into natural rubber (NR). A conventional vulcanization system was used for curing and cure studies were carried out on a Monsanto rheometer. Physical testing of the NR vulcanizates involved determining tensile and tear resistances and hardness. Swelling behavior of NR compounds and scanning electron microscopy were used to investigate the interaction between rice husk ash and natural rubber. Also, dynamical mechanical thermal analysis was used to assess filler–rubber interactions in terms of storage modulus (E′) and loss tangent (tan δ). Survey and laboratory evidence suggests several factors affecting sleep-wake patterns of college students. These factors include social and academic demands, diminution of parental guidance, reduction of total sleep time, delayed bedtime, and increased nap episodes. In this study, we examined the problem of falling asleep in school as a correlate of negative moods in this population (N = 294). A multivariate analysis showed significant main effects of sleepiness on mood states based on the Profile of Mood States. Students who fell asleep in school reported higher negative mood states. Significant interactions were observed among sleepiness and age, sex, race, and duration of sleep. Specifically, younger men reported higher negative moods. No interactions were noted for alcohol and marijuana consumption; however, students who fell asleep in school consumed more alcoholic beverages and smoked more than those who did not. Perhaps falling asleep in school could be used as an index that characterizes students who manifest adaptive or psychological difficulty. 相似文献

Basonuclin was first described as a human keratinocyte zinc finger protein present in the nuclei of proliferative basal keratinocytes in the epidermis. It disappears from keratinocytes that have lost their proliferative ability and have entered terminal differentiation. We now report that basonuclin is present also in the germ cells of the mouse testis and ovary. Immunocytochemical staining detected basonuclin in the nuclei of spermatogonia and spermatocytes at various developmental stages. During spermiogenesis, it relocated from the nucleus to the midpiece of the flagellum of the spermatozoa. In the ovary, basonuclin was found mainly in the nuclei of developing oocytes. The dual presence of basonuclin in differentiated spermatozoa and oocytes suggests that it may play a role in their differentiation and the early development of an embryo. 相似文献

Aiming to produce flexible films of poly(4,4′-diphenylether-1,3,4-oxadiazole), POD-DPE, the synthesis of POD-DPE through thermal cyclodehydration of polyhydrazide in solutions of poly(phosphoric acid), PPA, and in film form is studied here. It was observed that POD-DPE polymer samples obtained when the cyclodehydration of polyhydrazide is performed in solutions of PPA are insoluble in the solvents normally used for film preparation. On the other hand, the cyclodehydration of polyhydrazide in film form can lead to brittle POD-DPE films due to the high temperatures required for reaction to occur. In order to obtain flexible POD-DPE films with high conversion through cyclodehydration of polyhydrazide films, it is shown here that it is very important to adjust the cyclodehydration temperature (Tc) as a function of the glass transition temperature (Tg) and the weight average molecular weight (Mw) of the polyhydrazide. In all cases analyzed, polyhydrazides were synthesized by low temperature solution polycondensation reactions and were characterized by intrinsic viscosity measurements, size exclusion chromatograpy, nuclear magnetic resonance, infrared spectroscopy and thermal analysis. Polyhydrazides with weight average molecular weights up to 74,100 g/mol were obtained. The POD-DPE films obtained were characterized by infrared spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance, showing that the production of POD-DPE films is indeed possible from cyclodehydration of polyhydrazide films. 相似文献

This article presents a scheduling algorithm for the IEEE 802.11e hybrid coordination function under definition by the IEEE 802.11e task group. HCF can be used to provide IP quality of service guarantees in IEEE802.11e infrastructure WLANs. The enhanced distributed coordination function is mainly used for data transmission without QoS guarantees, but can also be used to decrease the transmission delay of QoS-sensitive traffic. Scheduling of queued packets follows a delay-earliest-due-date algorithm. The proposed algorithm is compatible with the link adaptation mechanisms implemented in commercial WLANs, as it limits the amount of time during which the stations control the wireless medium. The performance of the algorithm is evaluated through computer simulation and compared with the reference scheduler presented by the IEEE 802.11e task group. 相似文献

A retrospective study of the newborns who were submitted to mechanical ventilation at the Neonatal Intermediate Care Unit was made between July 1991 and June 1994. Mechanical ventilation in such a unit should be transitory and not exceed 24 hours. Information concerning pregnancy, labour, neonates, type of ventilation and its problems was gathered. Forty seven neonates were ventilated. The average ventilation time was six hours (1-20 hours). The main cause of ventilation was hyaline membrane disease which occurred in 24% of all cases. Mortality observed was 16.6% and some sequellae were registered which were related not only to ventilation but also to the basic pathology in 26% of cases. 相似文献

We report a human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected man with chronic Chagas' disease who developed a congestive heart failure that could not be clinically controlled. Endomyocardial biopsy revealed severe myocarditis and the xenodiagnosis result was positive, but Trypanosoma cruzi by direct microscopic examination of the blood was found only four months after the symptoms had started. Treatment with benznidazole was effective in reducing parasitemia, stabilizing the clinical status, and controlling tissue damage related to the parasite. Although the finding of T. cruzi trypomastigotes by direct microscopic examination of the blood has been considered the mark of Chagas' reactivation in immunocompromised patients with chronic disease, in this case it was a late finding. 相似文献

The morphology of PMMA blends with different polyamides (PA-6, 6/9 and 12) was investigated by transmission electron microscopy, recognizing PA-6/PMMA as the most miscible pair. Blends of these polymers were prepared from solutions in m-cresol and formic acid and the morphology was highly dependent on the solvent. The morphology and the segregation degree of extruded PA-6/PMMA blends was investigated by scanning electron microscopy and dynamic-mechanical analysis. Interleukin-1 beta (IL-1 beta) significantly inhibits insulin secretion from glucose stimulated islet cells. The mechanism for this inhibition has been hypothesized to be due to stimulation of the inducible form of nitric oxide synthase and a resulting increase in nitric oxide (NO) concentration. Ways to block the effect of IL-1 beta have focused on blocking the binding of IL-1 beta to the IL-1 receptor and the use of antioxidants to neutralize increases in NO. This report focuses on a 33 residue peptide synthesized based on the C-terminal region of the IL-1 beta molecule, a reported binding site of the IL-1 beta molecule, and the redoxcycling antioxidant pyrroloquinoline quinone (PQQ). The 33 residue peptide did not function as an antagonist, but as a weak agonist. High concentrations of PQQ itself inhibited glucose-dependent insulin release while low concentrations did not. PQQ had no effect on the actions of IL-1 beta. Three isosteric and isomeric analogues of PQQ were also investigated. One of the PQQ isomers had an inhibitory effect on insulin secretion at low concentrations where PQQ had no effect. These results reflect the sensitivity of islets to oxidative stress. 相似文献

The photo-oxidation of acid orange 52 dye was performed in the presence of H2O2, utilizing UV light, aiming the discoloration process modeling and the process variable influence characterization. The discoloration process was modeled by the use of feedforward neural network. Each sample was characterized by five independent variables (dye concentration, pH, hydrogen peroxide volume, temperature and time of operation) and a dependent variable (absorbance). The neural model has also provided, through Garson Partition coefficients and the Pertubation method, the independent variable influence order determination. The results indicated that the time of operation was the predominant variable and reaction mean temperature was the lesser influent variable. The neural model obtained presented coefficients of correlation on the order 0.98, for sets of trainability, validation and testing, indicating the power of prediction of the model and its character of generalization. 相似文献
