Since trans fat labeling requirements became mandatory in the US and many other countries, there has been a need for rapid and accurate analytical methodologies that can facilitate compliance with the various regulations. The determination of total trans fatty acids by mid-infrared (IR) spectroscopy is a widely used procedure that was standardized and validated as AOCS Official Method Cd 14e-09 (negative second derivative infrared spectroscopic method for the rapid (5 min) determination of total isolated trans fat) in 2009. The C–H out-of-plane deformation mid-IR band observed at 966 cm−1 is uniquely characteristic of isolated (non-conjugated) double bonds with trans configuration. AOCS Official Method Cd 14e-09, the most recent attenuated total reflection-Fourier transform IR (ATR-FTIR) official method, entails the measurement of the height of the negative second derivative of the trans absorption band. In the present study, the performance of a novel, portable FTIR system equipped with a heated 9-bounce diamond ATR crystal was evaluated and compared to that of a conventional benchtop single-bounce ATR-FTIR spectrometer. The introduction of the 9-bounce diamond ATR crystal resulted in the lowering of the limit of quantification of trans fat, as a percentage of the total fat, from approximately 2 to 0.34%. The data collected from accurately weighed gravimetric standards and 28 unknown test samples ranging in trans fat content from about 0.5 to 54%, as a percentage of the total fat, indicated that this IR official method and the use of the new 9-bounce portable ATR-FTIR instrumentation could lead to a five-fold enhancement in sensitivity relative to single-bounce systems. Implementing these changes would facilitate regulatory compliance and verification of fat and oil samples for trans fat content in the US and other countries, since all of the published regulations (e.g., “0 g trans fat per serving”) have levels of trans fat, as percentage of total fat, that exceed 0.34%.  相似文献

Partially hydrogenated oils (PHO), the products of incomplete catalytic hydrogenation of food oils, have been widely employed by the food industry for more than a century. Their exceptional stability and technologic characteristics made them the preferred choice for the production of several food products including margarines, bakery goods, and frying oils. Some of these highly prized characteristics were provided by the high content in trans fatty acids (TFA), defined as fatty acids with one or more isolated double bond in trans configuration. The discovery of negative health effects associated with dietary intake of TFA triggered world-wide a wave of regulatory actions aimed to curb their consumption. PHO became the main target of most campaigns aimed to reduce consumption of TFA, and their fortune in the food industry progressively faded. At the 2017, AOCS Annual Meeting in Orlando, a group of experts from regulatory agencies and industry from North America and Europe met to discuss the current status of government regulations and industry adaptations regarding the productions and use of PHO. The discussion was enriched by including the impact on fats and oils production of the 2016 amendment of the Toxic Substances Control Act of 1976 (TSCA). The present publication may not include all regulatory changes that took place after this symposium, in 2017.  相似文献

This work deals with the catalytic performance of nickel-cobalt supported on ceria-doped gadolinia (GDC) catalyst in the single and in the simultaneous methanation of carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide. The catalysts have been prepared by impregnation method, starting from metal salts precursors. Samples have been characterized by x-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry (TGA-DSC), hydrogen temperature programmed reduction (TPR-H2), transmission electronic microscopy (TEM), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM/EDX) technique. The temperature examined for methanation tests ranged from 200°C-600°C. The results show that the prepared and optimized catalysts possess the main characteristics of materials suitable for SOECs (solid oxide electrolyzer cells) applications: high metal content (50% wt/wt with respect to the support), high activity, and high stability. The catalytic performance of bimetallic catalysts highlights that the cobalt does not improve the activity of the nickel catalysts.  相似文献

The micellization behavior of gemini surfactants i.e. alkanediyl-α,ω-bis(cetyldimethylammonium bromide) (C16-s-C16,2Br where s = 3, 4, 10) in 10% (v/v) ethylene glycol solution was investigated by surface tension and conductometric measurements at 300 K. The critical micelle concentration, degree of micellar ionization, surface excess concentration, minimum surface area per molecule of surfactant, surface pressure at the CMC and Gibbs energy of adsorption of the dimeric surfactants have also been determined in the presence of different salts (NaCl, NaBr and NaI). The critical micelle concentration and degree of micellar ionization values decrease significantly in the presence of sodium halides and follows the sequence NaCl < NaBr < NaI. The free energy, enthalpy and entropy of micellization of dimeric surfactants in 10% (v/v) ethylene glycol solution were determined using the temperature dependence of the critical micelle concentration. The standard free energy of micellization was found to be negative in all the cases.  相似文献

This paper is centred on one of the main results of the ELeGI project, namely its software architecture for the delivery of personalised formal-learning experiences. The architecture has been designed and developed: (1) taking into account a general model for the personalisation of learning experiences, allowing us to obtain a solution that is flexible with respect to the pedagogies, and (2) on top of service oriented grid technologies, allowing us to obtain several advantages in the process of creation and delivery of personalised learning experience like, for instance, ubiquitous and seamless access to heterogeneous learning resources distributed over the network. In order to validate our result, the first prototype of the ELeGI architecture has been deployed on a virtual organisation consisting of three geographically distributed nodes. Each node of the VO provides services and learning resources that have been adopted in the creation and delivery of a personalised learning experience about the Torricelli’s law and based on the virtual scientific experiment model. The case of study has been successfully executed and has given us a proof of our assumptions related to the added value of the service oriented grid mainly in terms of: (1) capabilities to access educational resources distributed over the network, that is relevant in achieving the personalisation of learning experiences, and (2) high level of dynamicity and adaptiveness in the creation and delivery processes of a personalised learning experience.

The aim of this paper is to develop a method based on S-transform and Support Vector Machine (SVM) for ferroresonance detection. Using this method ferroresonance can be discriminate from other transients such as capacitor switching, load switching and transformer switching. S-transform (ST) is used for decomposition of signals, feature selection is done by Kernel Principal Component Analysis (KPCA). SVM is used for classification. Ferroresonance data and other transients were obtained by simulation using EMTP program. Results show that the proposed procedure is efficient in identifying ferroresonance from other events.  相似文献

Mobile devices with their more and more powerful resources allow the development of mobile information systems in which services are not only provided by traditional systems but also autonomously executed and controlled in the mobile devices themselves. Services distributed on autonomous mobile devices allow both the development of cooperative applications without a back‐end infrastructure and the development of applications blending distributed and centralized services. In this paper, we propose MicroMAIS: an integrated platform for supporting the execution of Web service‐based applications natively on a mobile device. The MicroMAIS platform is composed of mAS and μ‐BPEL. The former allows the execution of a single Web service, whereas the latter permits the orchestration of several Web services according to the WS‐BPEL standard. A straightforward non-invasive method is proposed to accurately evaluate the shunt resistance of an elementary cell of a photovoltaic module connected in an installed string without requiring prior knowledge of the parameters of the intrinsic diodes. The approach relies on the measurement of the current-voltage characteristic of the whole string after intentionally shading the selected cell. Calibrated PSPICE simulations are employed to illustrate the method and test its reliability. As a case study, the shunt resistances of several cells belonging to a series array of 10 commercial panels are determined.  相似文献

To obtain information on human pituitary intermediate lobe activity throughout the perinatal period, plasma alpha MSH immunoreactivity (IR) was measured in 106 newborns at delivery and during the first week of postnatal life. Subjects were divided into groups according to gestational age at birth, mode of parturition, and antenatal state of health. Plasma alpha MSH IR decreased progressively from severe preterm to fullterm neonates born by vaginal delivery (VD; P < 0.001) or cesarean section (CS) with and without prenatal distress (P < or = 0.001 in both cases). alpha MSH IR was due, in all studied conditions, to three major forms: desacetyl alpha MSH, alpha MSH, and diacetyl alpha MSH. Desacetyl alpha MSH was always the most represented form, but it decreased from 75-80% of the total in severe premature to 40-45% in mature infants. In term neonates, total alpha MSH IR values were higher in subjects born by normal VD than by elective CS (P < or = 0.05), in complicated than in normal VD (P < or = 0.01), and in CS performed because of fetal distress than in elective CS (P < or = 0.01). No significant difference was detectable in mature subjects in the percentages of the three alpha MSH forms in relation to the mode of delivery and fetal state during antenatal life or at parturition. Twelve hours after birth, total alpha MSH IR significantly decreased in all groups of term newborns, reaching a plateau of 0.8-1.4 pmol/L. In premature infants, similar concentrations were detectable by the fourth postnatal day. We conclude that 1) alpha MSH IR intermediate lobe secretion progressively decreases throughout the third trimester of pregnancy; 2) stress, including that pertinent to parturition, stimulates alpha MSH IR release; and 3) pituitary intermediate lobe activity declines shortly after birth independently of the maturity reached by the fetus, the mode of parturition, and the presence of antenatal chronic distress, although the process is slightly retarded in premature newborns.  相似文献
