The accuracy of single-beam dose profiles used in the algorithm of the Gamma Knife treatment planning system (Leksell GammaPlan) is verified. EGS4 Monte Carlo calculation was employed to calculate the dose distributions of single-beams in a spherical water phantom with diameter 160 mm. The beams were directed to the center of the phantom. Collimators of 4, 8, 14, and 18 mm sizes were studied. The single-beam dose profiles provided by Elekta (Manufacturer of Leksell Gamma Knife) were excellently consistent with the results of Monte Carlo for the 4, 14, and 18 mm collimators. The maximum discrepancy was less than 3% at all radial distances. For the 8 mm collimator, the maximum discrepancy was 8% in the relative dose in the radial distance range from 4.3 mm to 5.2 mm. Excellent agreement in dose profiles along x, y, and z axes for all collimator helmets by summing over all 201 sources was observed between the cases using the default single-beam dose profiles and the calculated Monte Carlo results, except for the 8 mm collimator helmet along z axis. Such difference may however be too small to give a clinical significance.  相似文献

Following the CIE guidelines for coordinated research on colour-difference evaluation, sets of dyed wool samples were produced near each of the five CIE reference colours, the colour differences within each set ranging from 1 to 9 CIE-LAB units. Ratio assessments were used to determine discrimination ellipsoids for illuminants D65 and A. Ratio and grey-scale assessments involving pairs from all five colours were used to bring the visual data onto a common scale consistent with previous results. The ellipsoids for the red and green centres were compared with those obtained previously for the same centres. The agreement was rather better for the green colour, even though the substrates and sizes of colour-differences were different in this case. The chromaticity-discrimination ellipses generally agreed well with those obtained earlier for similar colours. The CMC (1 : 1) formula agreed better with the experimental results than did the CIELAB formula.  相似文献

The growth kinetics of Pd2Si formed by palladium films either vacuum deposited or sputter deposited onto vacuum-evaporated, sputter-deposited or single-crystal silicon substrates were investigated by backscattering spectrometry (BS). The impurity contents of the films and substrates were characterized by both secondary ion mass spectrometry and BS. In all cases, Pd2Si is the only silicide phase detected after vacuum annealing up to 300°C and the growth mechanism is always diffusion limited. The rate of the diffusion was found to differ and the activation energies for Pd2Si formation varied between 0.9 and 1.5 eV. These changes are correlated with the presence of impurities in the deposited palladium and silicon films. Also, sputtered palladium films do not form epitaxial Pd2Si layers on (111) Si substrates as vacuum-deposited palladium films do. The conclusion is that rates of reaction and morphology of Pd2Si layers grown by thermal annealing depend on the deposition system.  相似文献

Reported here, for the first time, is the lattice matched growth of InAs1-xSbx on GaSb. The thermodynamic incompatibility of the system, i.e., the strong tendency for the In-As-Sb liquid to dissolve the GaSb substrate, was solved via a novel liquid phase epitaxial growth technique. Liquid compositions for lattice matching conditions have been determined in the 400-600°C range. Epitaxial growth has been examined for (100), (111)B and (111)A orientations. Dislocation etch pit densities for lattice matched, and near lattice matched conditions are shown to be less than 104-cm−2 and 105-cm−4, respectively. The composition of the epitaxial layers are determined by the Gandolfi X-ray diffraction technique and compositional homogeneity has been confirmed by SEM X-ray analysis. Some material related device properties which demonstrate the reproducibility of the growth technique are presented.  相似文献

The effects of intra-arterial infusion of E. coli endotoxin at 1.0 mg. per minute on the gastric total and mucosal blood flows, electrical potential difference, and ionic fluxes across the gastric mucosa were studied in an exteriorized, chambered preparation of canine fundic stomach. Gamma-labelled microsphere technique was used in addition to venous drainage and plasma aminopyrine clearance for the measurement of total and mucosal blood flow, respectively. In spite of normal systemic blood pressure throughout the experiment, E. coli endotoxin infusion caused a significant decrease in total gastric blood flow and in the fractional distribution of flow to the mucosae. There was no significant arteriovenous shunting of microspheres. Significant reduction in potential difference and hydrogen-ion back diffusion also was noted after endotoxin infusion, possibly as a consequence of reduced mucosal blood flow. The results indicate that significant gastric mucosal ischemia can occur and may represent a mechanism in the development of gastric erosions in endotoxemia, even in the absence of systemic hypotension.  相似文献

In March 2002, there were reports of a hemorrhagic fever outbreak in western Afghanistan. It was later confirmed that the hemorrhagic symptoms and increased mortality were actually due to scurvy. Most aid workers did not include scurvy in the initial differential diagnosis because it is uncommon throughout the world and has mainly been reported in refugee populations in recent times. A rapid assessment confirmed the cases clinically, estimated a prevalence rate of 6.3% (a severe public health problem), and determined that the attack rates peaked each year in January and February (the end of the winter). Many Afghans have limited dietary diversity due to isolated locations, lengthy winters, the continuing drought of the last four years, asset depletion, and loss of livelihood. After numerous food and fortification options to prevent future outbreaks had been considered, vitamin C tablet supplementation was selected because of the relatively rapid response time as compared with other prevention methods. A three-month course of vitamin C tablets was distributed to 827 villages in at-risk areas. The tablets were acceptable and compliance was good. No cases of scurvy were reported for the winter of 2002-03. The case study from Afghanistan demonstrates that scurvy can occur in nonrefugee or nondisplaced populations; vitamin C supplementation can be an effective prevention strategy; there is an urgent need to develop field-friendly techniques to diagnose micronutrient-deficiency diseases; food-security tools should be used to assess and predict risks of nutritional deficiencies; and the humanitarian community should address prevention of scurvy in outbreak-prone areas.  相似文献

A procedure was designed to prepare porosity-graded hydroxyapatite (HA) ceramics simulating the bimodal structure of natural bone, which could be used to build a cage that would promote the reconstruction of the anterior column after vertebrectomy or corpectomy in tumor and trauma surgery. HA ceramics with controllable pore size distribution and porosity were developed by using chitosan and Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) as the pore-forming agents. HA ceramics with worthwhile properties such as a wide range of volume porosity (10-50%) and pore size (nanometer to 400 microm) can be obtained from this method, which allows the fabrication of HA ceramics with desirable porous characteristics simulating the bimodal natural bone architecture expected to provide advantages for bony fusion in the intervertebral foramina. When coated with chitosan-gelatin network, the bending strength of the porous HA ceramics significantly improved. The polymer network coated porous HA have potential application in the construction of cages for spinal operations.  相似文献

Recently, there has been a dramatic increase in the use of XML data to deliver information over the Web. Personal Weblogs, news Web sites, and discussion forums are now publishing RSS feeds for their subscribers to retrieve new postings. As the popularity of personal Weblogs and RSS feeds grows rapidly, RSS aggregation services and blog search engines have appeared, which try to provide a central access point for simpler access and discovery of new content from a large number of diverse RSS sources. In this paper, we study how the RSS aggregation services should monitor the data sources to retrieve new content quickly using minimal resources and to provide its subscribers with fast news alerts. We believe that the change characteristics of RSS sources and the general user access behavior pose distinct requirements that make this task significantly different from the traditional index refresh problem for Web search engines. Our studies on a collection of 10,000 RSS feeds reveal some general characteristics of the RSS feeds and show that, with proper resource allocation and scheduling, the RSS aggregator provides news alerts significantly faster than the best existing approach.  相似文献
