The response of mesoscopic superconductors to an ac magnetic field is investigated both experimentally and with numerical simulations. We study small square samples with dimensions of the order of the penetration depth. We obtain the ac susceptibitity χ=χ′+iχ″ at microwave frequencies as a function of the dc magnetic field H dc. We find that the dissipation, given by x″, has a non monotonous behavior in mesoscopic samples. In the numerical simulations we obtain that the dissipation increases before the penetration of vortices and then it decreases abruptly after vortices have entered, the sample. This is verified experimentally, where we find that χ″ has strong oscillations as a function of H dc in small squares of Pb.  相似文献

Summary Dynamic light scattering was used to investigate the dynamics of sodium poly(styrene sulfonate) and fully neutralized poly(acrylic acid) gels as a function of the degree of swelling and weight ratio of cross-linking agent. It was shown that the collective diffusion coefficient increases with increasing degree of swelling and that the diffusion coefficient shows stronger concentration dependence than predicted by scaling arguments. For gel samples measured at the swelling equilibrium, the diffusion coefficient increases with increasing gel concentration for both gel systems.  相似文献

Summary Electropolymerization of o-(CH3O)2C6H4 (Veratrole) in dry acetonitrile/tetrabutylammonium tetrafluoroborate at platinum electrode, yields a green polymeric conducting solid. As the pressure is increased, the material becomes more conductive, but sharp changes towards lower conductivity occur at 4.2 and 6.2 metric tons pressure, probably due to phase transitions. The photoconductivity shows an exponential increase as temperature is increased, but it shows reversible changes at 200 K, 225 K and 250 K during slow warming, also attributable to phase transitions. Photoconductivity of Polyveratrole increases with the radiation frequency, being higher under blue light than under red of infrared radiation and there is a linear increase of photoconductivity with radiation density. Conductivity transients show that the conductivity increases exponentially with time to the saturation point within few minutes, and it also decreases exponentially when the light is turned off and the circuit is open. This behaviour can be explained by formation and encounter of electron and hole as current carriers. A preliminary study indicates a piezoelectric effect for the material. absorption spectroscopy allowed the measurements of the material band gap.  相似文献

Five different techniques (analytical determination of dissolved iron, Tafel line extrapolation, linear polarization method, impedance and Faradaic distortion measurements) were used for the evaluation of the inhibiting efficiency of N-decyl-3-hydroxypyridine bromide in 1 M hydrochloric acid solutions. The results obtained with the different methods were found to agree satisfactorily. High inhibiting efficiency value was obtained at 1× 10?4Mdm?3 concentration.  相似文献

Examined whether location errors in tachistoscopic visual probe tasks reflect (1) uncertainty about the actual position of items, (2) inappropriate guesses, encouraged by a requirement to respond, or (3) confusion about the position being tested. 46 undergraduates completed probe tasks in which they provided confidence ratings on each trial and tasks that substituted a color cue for a visual pointer or used a double bar probe. Results suggest that location errors on visual probe tasks reflect confusion about the spatial position of target items. Findings are consistent with data questioning the concept of iconic memory and imply that the bar-probe task cannot be used to study precategorical visual memory. BACKGROUND: The first stage of the cork industrial process generates great volumes of wastewater with moderate to high organic pollutant content that must be purified using different procedures, such as filtration by membranes. RESULTS: The tangential filtration of these wastewaters was studied using two different laboratory equipments. In the first one, three ultrafiltration (UF) membranes were tested, with molecular weight cut‐off (MWCO) 100 kDa and 30 kDa, and two operating modes were used: total recycling of permeate and retentate streams, and in continuous mode, without recycling both streams. In the total recycling UF experiments, the influence of the operating variables on the permeate flux was first established. The effectiveness of the different membranes was determined by evaluating the rejection coefficients for several parameters that measure the global pollutant content of the effluent. The values found for these rejection coefficients were in the following order: ellagic acid and color > absorbance at 254 nm > tannic content > COD (chemical oxygen demand). In the continuous mode experiments, the fouling mechanism for each membrane was established by fitting the experimental data to various filtration fouling models given in the literature. The operating mode in the second equipment was batch concentration, and additional experiments were carried out with an UF membrane (2 kDa), and with a NF membrane (with MWCO in the range 150–300 Da). CONCLUSIONS: The three operating modes tested provided different rejection levels of organic matter; among them, the most effective procedure tested was batch concentration mode using a NF membrane. This article is focused on the phase structure development in immiscible polymer blends during melt mixing. Nonuniformity of the phase structure, i.e., the coexistence of areas containing particles with markedly different size distribution, was detected in quenched and compression molded samples of a number of various blends prepared by long and intensive mixing in the chamber of a Plasticorder. The same effect was found also for polystyrene/polyamide blends prepared in a twin‐screw extruder. It was shown that neglecting nonuniformity of the phase structure can lead to considerable error in evaluation of the effect of system parameters on the blend morphology. The reasons for the effect were discussed and it was found that inhomogeneous flow field in mixers is a plausible explanation of the nonuniform phase structure. POLYM. ENG. The new emerging area of Enterprise Wide Optimization (EWO) has focused the attention in effectively solving the combined production/distribution scheduling problem. The importance of logistic activities performed in multi-site environments comes from the relative magnitude of the associated transportation costs and the good chance of getting large savings on such expenses. This paper first develops an exact MILP mathematical formulation for the multiple vehicle time-window-constrained pickup and delivery (MVPDPTW) problem. The approach is able to account for many-to-many transportation requests, pure pickup and delivery tasks, heterogeneous vehicles and multiple depots. Optimal solutions for a variety of benchmark problems with cluster/random distributions of pickup and delivery locations and limited sizes in terms of customer requests and vehicles have been discovered. However, the computational cost exponentially grows with the number of requests. For large-scale m-PDPTW problems, a local search improvement algorithm steadily providing a better solution through two evolutionary steps is also presented. A neighborhood structure around the starting solution is generated by first allowing multiple request exchanges among nearby trips and then permitting the reordering of nodes on every individual route. If a better set of routes is found, both steps are repeated until no improved solution is discovered. Compact MILP mathematical formulations for both sub-problems have been developed and solved through an efficient branch-and-bound algorithm. A significant number of large-scale m-PDPTW benchmark problems, some of them including up to 100 transportation requests, were successfully solved in reasonable CPU times.  相似文献
