The rate of formation of intermetallic compounds between aluminum and three ferritic steels, one austenitic steel, and Inconel
has been determined by an electrolytic method. The steel was held at zero potential with respect to aluminum in a NaCl-AlCl3 melt, and the current measured. Comparison of measured thicknesses of intermetallic layers with those calculated from the
integrated current gives an average deposition efficiency of 95 pct. For the Type 304 austenitic steel thickness
(min), andk is given by logk= −6400/T(0K) +4.469. The ferritic steels show a linear rate of growth of Al5Fe2, with an initial higher rate such that extrapolation of the linear curve back to zero time gives an intercept of 16±7 μm.
The rate constants (mm min−1) may be represented by log (rate)=α/T+β, and the values of α and β are respectively −2650 and−0.788 for a plain carbon steel,−6580 and + 3.469 for a 1.3 pct Cr,
0.4 pct Mo steel, and−5950 and +2.466 for a 2.2 pct Cr, 0.9 pct Mo steel. The more highly alloyed steels are thus attacked,
more slowly. Results for Inconel could not be fitted to any simple equation. With the ferritic steels growth is by aluminum

The object-oriented paradigm in software engineering provides support for the construction of modular and reusable program components and is attractive for the design of large and complex distributed systems. Reachability analysis is an important and well-known tool for static analysis of critical properties in concurrent programs, such as deadlock freedom. It involves the systematic enumeration of all possible global states of program execution and provides the same level of assurance for properties of the synchronization structure in concurrent programs, such as formal verification. However, direct application of traditional reachability analysis to concurrent object-oriented programs has many problems, such as incomplete analysis for reusable classes (not safe) and increased computational complexity (not efficient). We propose a novel technique called apportioning, for safe and efficient reachability analysis of concurrent object-oriented programs, that is based upon a simple but powerful idea of classification of program analysis points as local (having influence within a class) and global (having possible influence outside a class). We have developed a number of apportioning-based algorithms, having different degrees of safety and efficiency. A label-free biosensor for Escherichia coli (E. coli) ORN 178 based on faradaic electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) was developed. α-Mannoside or β-galactoside was immobilized on a gold disk electrode using a self-assembled monolayer (SAM) via a spacer terminated in a thiol functionality. Impedance measurements (Nyquist plot) showed shifts due to the binding of E. coli ORN 178, which is specific for α-mannoside. No significant change in impedance was observed for E. coli ORN 208, which does not bind to α-mannoside. With increasing concentrations of E. coli ORN 178, electron-transfer resistance (R(et)) increases before the sensor is saturated. After the Nyquist plot of E. coli/mixed SAM/gold electrode was modeled, a linear relationship between normalized R(et) and the logarithmic value of E. coli concentrations was found in a range of bacterial concentration from 10(2) to 10(3) CFU/mL. The combination of robust carbohydrate ligands with EIS provides a label-free, sensitive, specific, user-friendly, robust, and portable biosensing system that could potentially be used in a point-of-care or continuous environmental monitoring setting. 相似文献

This paper presents methodologies for fracture analysis of concrete structural components with and without considering tension softening effect. Stress intensity factor (SIF) is computed by using analytical approach and finite element analysis. In the analytical approach, SIF accounting for tension softening effect has been obtained as the difference of SIF obtained using linear elastic fracture mechanics (LEFM) principles and SIF due to closing pressure. Superposition principle has been used by accounting for non-linearity in incremental form. SIF due to crack closing force applied on the effective crack face inside the process zone has been computed using Green's function approach. In finite element analysis, the domain integral method has been used for computation of SIF. The domain integral method is used to calculate the strain energy release rate and SIF when a crack grows. Numerical studies have been conducted on notched 3-point bending concrete specimen with and without considering the cohesive stresses. It is observed from the studies that SIF obtained from the finite element analysis with and without considering the cohesive stresses is in good agreement with the corresponding analytical value. The effect of cohesive stress on SIF decreases with increase of crack length. Further, studies have been conducted on geometrically similar structures and observed that (i) the effect of cohesive stress on SIF is significant with increase of load for a particular crack length and (iii) SIF values decreases with increase of tensile strength for a particular crack length and load. 相似文献

A non-linear fracture mechanics based approach is proposed to depict a typical fracture mechanism from initiation to growth, eventually leading to failure. This concept is developed for a lightly reinforced beam in flexure. The proposed model integrates the existing methodology of a Stress Intensity Factor equilibrium equation with the bridging forces developed in concrete cover and rebar. The model and solution algorithm outlined presents an elaborate understanding of the mechanism involved and is significant in predicting the behaviour of flexural members. The analysis is performed using MATLAB programming. The proposed approach ensures a maximum tolerable crack length and crack width for flexural members to prevent a catastrophic failure. Such an approach has the potential to serve as an analysis and design tool for reinforced concrete components subjected to normal conditions and towards deciding rehabilitation and strengthening measures. 相似文献

This paper presents Multivariate Adaptive Regression Splines (MARS) model to predict the fracture characteristics of high strength and ultra high strength concrete beams. Fracture characteristics include fracture energy (GF), critical stress intensity factor (KIC) and critical crack tip opening displacement (CTODc). This paper also presents the details of development of MARS model to predict failure load (Pmax) of high strength concrete (HSC) and ultra high strength concrete (UHSC) beam specimens. Characterization of mix and testing of beams of high strength and ultra strength concrete have been described. Methodologies for evaluation of fracture energy, critical stress intensity factor and critical crack tip opening displacement have been outlined. MARS model has been developed by establishing a relationship between a set of predicators and dependent variables. MARS is based on a divide and conquers strategy partitioning the training data sets into separate regions; each gets its own regression line. Four MARS models have been developed by using MATLAB software for training and prediction of fracture parameters and failure load.MARS has been trained with about 70% of the total 87 data sets and tested with about 30% of the total data sets. It is observed from the studies that the predicted values of Pmax, GF, KIC and CTODC are in good agreement with those of the experimental values. 相似文献

The creep rapture behaviour of 2.25Cr—1Mo steel in air and in a salt mixture was studied. The salt coating, which can form a liquid phase at the test temperatures, increased the creep rate and reduced the rupture life of the material. The coating reduced the available cross-section of the material by removing the surface layers, thereby resulting in a reduction of the rupture life. Cross-sections of coated samples showed an outer oxide layer comprising oxide of the metal and precipitates of sulphide at the metal/oxide interface. This subsurface penetration of the corrodants was responsible for the early failure of the coated samples. This is typical of hot corrosion mechanisms. The formation of various carbides like M23C6 and M6C, as observed by transmission electron microscopy, during creep reduced the creep strength of the material both in air and in the coated state. Increasing temperature enhanced the formation of these carbides with a consequent decrease in creep strength. Applied stress did not seem to play much of a role in the degree of carbide precipitation. 相似文献

RADA16 self-assembling peptide nanofiber scaffolds (SAPNSs) have been shown to have positive effects on neural regeneration following injury to the central nervous system in vivo, but mechanisms are unclear. Here we show that RADA16 SAPNSs form scaffolds of increasing fiber density with increasing peptide concentration which in turn has a concentration-dependent effect on neurons and astrocytes in mixed retinal cultures. Importantly, we report that the final nanoscale fiber architecture is an important factor to consider in designing scaffolds to promote regeneration in the central nervous system. 相似文献
