Carboxylic acid functionalized water soluble carbon nanotube (wsCNT) shows no toxic effect against the growth of Escherichia-coli (E. coli), a gram-negative bacteria. Treatment up to 8 microg mL(-1) of wsCNT did not show any toxic effect on E. coli growth that was followed by using bacterial growth kinetics and Spread Plate Technique (SPT). The aim of the present work is to derive the fundamental solutions in the linear theory of generalized thermoelasticity with three phase-lags, recently introduced by Roychoudhuri (2007). We consider the case of homogeneous and isotropic bodies and present a solution of the Galerkin-type of field equations. The solution is then used to determine the effects of concentrated loads and heat sources in an unbounded medium. The present work is concerned with the solution of a problem on fractional order theory of thermoelasticity for an elastic medium. We investigate the thermoelastic interactions inside the medium by employing the fractional order theory of thermoelasticity, recently advocated by Sherief et al. (Int. J. Solids Struct., 47, 269–275, 2010). State space approach together with the Laplace transform technique is used to obtain the general solution of the problem. The general solution is then applied to three specific problems on an elastic half space, whose boundary is subjected to (i) a thermal shock (i.e., a step input in temperature and zero stress), (ii) a normal load (i.e., a step input in stress and zero temperature change) and (iii) a ramp type increase in temperature and zero stress. To observe the variations of displacement, temperature and stress inside the half-space we compute the numerical values of the field variables for a particular material by utilizing a numerical method of Laplace inversion. In present communication, waste frying oil (WFO) has been used as a feedstock for biodiesel synthesis. WFO, procured from a local Indian restaurant possessed an acid value of 0.84 mg KOH/g, which is low enough for single step transesterification reaction. Biodiesel (fatty acid methyl esters) was washed after transesterification reaction and the yield got lowered substantially (from 96% to 86.36%) after water washing owing to loss of esters. 30:100 vol% (methanol to oil), 0.6 wt% NaOCH3, 60°C temperature and 600 rpm agitation in 1 h reaction time was found to be optimum for transesterification reaction. 1H NMR spectrum showed a high conversion (95.19%) of fatty acids in WFO to biodiesel in 2 h reaction time. The preferred delivery systems for anticancer drugs would be the one which would have selective and effective destruction of cancer cells. In the present study etoposide (ETO) loaded nanoparticles (NP) were prepared using PLGA (ETO-PLGA NP), PLGA-MPEG block copolymer (ETO-PLGA-MPEG NP) and PLGA-Pluronic copolymer (ETO-PLGA-PLU NP) and they were evaluated for cytotoxicity and cellular uptake studies using two cancer cell lines, L1210 and DU145. The IC50 values for L1210 cells were 18.0, 6.2, 4.8 and 5.4 microM and for DU145 cells the IC50 values were 98.4, 75.1, 60.1 and 71.3 microM for ETO, ETO-PLGA NP, ETO-PLGA-MPEG NP and ETO-PLGA-PLU NP respectively. The increased cytotoxicities were attributed to increased uptake of the NPs by the cells. Moreover the ETO loaded PLGA-MPEG NP and PLGA-Pluronic NP showed a sustained cytotoxic effect till 5 days on both the cell lines. Results of the long term cytotoxicity study concluded that the drug loaded PLGA nanoparticulate formulations were efficient in decreasing the viability of the L1210 cells over a period of three days, whereas the pure drug exerted its maximum efficiency on the day one itself. Z-stack confocal images of NPs showed fluorescence activity in each section of DU 145 and L1210 cells indicating that the nanoparticles were internalized by the cells. The study concluded that ETO loaded PLGA NPs had higher cytotoxicity compared with that of the free drug and ETO-PLGA-MPEG NP and ETO-PLGA-PLU NP had higher cell uptake efficiency compared with that of ETO-PLGA NP. The developed PLGA based NPs shows promise to be used for cancer therapy. 相似文献
