A thorough flow-induced vibration analysis of nuclear components such as heat exchangers and steam generators is essential at the design stage to ensure good performance and reliability. This paper presents our approach and techniques in this respect. In a steam generator, for example, the flow may be liquid or two-phase. In general, parallel and cross-flow exist in the tube bundles of heat exchange components. In cross-flow three basic vibration excitation mechanisms are considered, namely fluidelastic instability, periodic wake shedding resonance, and forced response to random flow turbulence. The latter may need to be considered in parallel flow. These vibration excitation mechanisms and the dynamics of multispan tubes are formulated in a computer model which is used to predict the vibration response of the tubes. The computer model and the parameters required to formulate the vibration excitation mechanism are discussed. Examples of vibration analysis of steam generators and heat exchangers are outlined. It is concluded that most flow-induced vibration problems may be avoided by proper analysis at the design stage. 相似文献

Recently, laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) has been developed for the elemental analysis of geological samples for application to space exploration. There is also interest in using the technique for the analysis of water ice and ice/dust mixtures located at the Mars polar regions. The application is a compact instrument for a lander or rover to the Martian poles to interrogate stratified layers of ice and dusts that contain a record of past geologic history, believed to date back several million years. Here we present results of a study of the use of LIBS for the analysis of water ice and ice/dust mixtures in situ and at short stand-off distances (< 6.5 m) using experimental parameters appropriate for a compact instrument. Characteristics of LIBS spectra of water ice, ice/soil mixtures, element detection limits, and the ability to ablate through ice samples to monitor subsurface dust deposits are discussed. 相似文献

This paper addresses the problem of robust ℋ∞ filtering for linear discrete-time systems subject to parameter uncertainties in the system state-space model and with multiple time delays in the state variables. The uncertain parameters are supposed to belong to a given convex bounded polyhedral domain. A methodology is developed to design a stable linear filter that assures asymptotic stability and a prescribed ℋ∞ performance for the filtering error, irrespective of the uncertainty and the time delays. Photochemical reactors tend to exhibit turbulent flow even with low Reynolds numbers. The k‐? model is not always appropriate in this situation. An annular photoreactor was designed with tangential inlet and outlet tubes to investigate this. The fluid flow was characterized by residence time distribution (RTD) experiments, which were reproduced by computational fluid dynamics considering four relevant turbulence models: the k‐?, the k‐ω, the shear stress transport, and the Reynolds stress models. Inlet effects induced helical flow throughout the reactor, switching to plug flow depending on the flow rate and the turbulence model. The k‐ω model properly deals with viscous effects and reproduces the experimental RTD curves with correlation coefficients greater than 0.9566, against 0.8705 from the k‐? model. 相似文献

High-frequency guided acoustic Brillouin modes have recently been observed in small-core silica photonic crystal fibers. In this paper, we investigate the temperature dependence of the optical sideband frequency generated by one of these guided acoustic waves. The experimental results show a temperature coefficient of 100 kHz/°C at an acoustic resonance frequency of 1.15 GHz and are in very good agreement with the theoretical predictions. This coefficient demonstrates a temperature sensitivity 10 times larger than that previously reported in conventional single-mode fibers, which is promising in view of potential applications to optical fiber sensors. 相似文献

We describe a novel convenient technique to allow for the accurate measurement of the dispersion coefficients till fourth-order in the zero-dispersion wavelength region of single-mode optical fibers. The proposed method is based on a careful spectral analysis of modulation instability occurring in both normal and anomalous dispersion regime and the associated dispersive waves emitted by soliton fission.
