This paper investigates theoretically the modification of dynamical properties in a semiconductor laser by a strong injected signal. It is found that enhanced relaxation oscillations are governed by the pulsations of the intracavity field and population at frequencies determined by the injected field and cavity resonances. Furthermore, the bandwidth enhancement is associated with the undamping of the injection-induced relaxation oscillation and strong population pulsation effects. There are two limitations to the modulation-bandwidth enhancement: Overdamping of relaxation oscillation and degradation of flat response at low frequencies. The injected-laser rate-equations used in the investigation reproduce the relevant aspects of modulation-bandwidth enhancement found in the experiment on injection-locked vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers.  相似文献

The authors have fabricated 0.1-μm T-gate pseudomorphic (PM) InGaAs power high-electron-mobility transistors (HEMTs) with record power and gain performance at 94 GHz. Devices with 40-μm gate peripheries achieved 10.6-mW output power with 7.3-dB gain and 14.3% power-added efficiency (PAE). Devices with 160-μm gate peripheries achieved 62.7-mW output power with 4.0-dB gain and 13.2% PAE. The authors believe the superior performance of these devices is due to the combination of a short 0.1-μm T-gate, high-quality material, optimized device profile, and the reduction in source inductance due to source vias  相似文献

BACKGROUND: The precise mechanisms involved in islet xenograft rejection remain unknown. The purpose of the present study was to determine cellular mechanisms responsible for islet xenograft rejection in the liver to facilitate finding a procedure for prevention of immune rejection. METHODS: Hepatic mononuclear cells (MNC) as well as splenocytes, peripheral blood MNC, and thymocytes from streptozotocin-induced diabetic mice (BALB/c) rejecting the intrahepatic rat (Lewis) islet xenografts were isolated and examined by two-color FACS analysis. RESULTS: The characteristic finding of the hepatic MNC from the mice rejecting islet xenografts compared with mice receiving isografts was a significant increase in the yield as well as in the percentage of the cells expressing CD3+ interleukin-2 receptor (IL-2R) alpha- beta+, CD3+ CD8alpha+ beta+, and T cell receptor (TCR) alphabeta+ lymphocyte function-associated antigen-1+. The expression of CD3 and TCR alphabeta of these T cells was found to be of intermediate intensity (TCR(int) cells). The expansion of these TCR(int) cells occurred predominantly in the liver. There was no significant difference in the cells expressing CD3+ IL-2R alpha+, CD3+ CD4+, CD3+ TCRgammadelta+, CD3- IL-2Rbeta+ (natural killer cells), and B220+ (B cells). In vivo administration of anti-IL-2Rbeta monoclonal antibody directed to the expanded cells produced a prevention of rejection. CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest that islet xenograft rejection in the liver from rat to mouse is an event for which the TCR(int) cells are responsible.  相似文献

Measured the visible persistence of illusory contours (ICs) in 2 experiments. In Exp 1, persistence was determined among 12 Ss for IC squares presented for 50 msec. Exp 2, with 10 Ss, varied target duration from 50 to 1,000 msec. For the control figures, visible persistence decreased with increasing target duration. However, with the IC targets, persistence increased sharply with increasing target duration and then decreased. Results suggest that the time it takes for the visual system to construct the subjective contour yields an overall increase in persistence, and this ongoing processing can be seen over long target durations. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate approaches to thyroid carcinoma invading the aerodigestive tract, with particular attention to well-differentiated carcinomas. STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective review of experience with thyroid carcinoma invading the aerodigestive tract over a 20-year period at a tertiary referral hospital. METHODS: The medical records of all patients with a diagnosis of thyroid cancer treated at Emory University Hospital, Atlanta, Georgia, from 1977 through 1997 were reviewed. Multiple clinical variables were analyzed including treatment, development of recurrence, and survival. Survival and time to local recurrence were determined by Kaplan-Meier analysis, and statistical comparisons were made using log-rank analysis. RESULTS: Five hundred thirty-six cases were identified; 28 patients (5.2%) were identified with invasive disease involving the aerodigestive tract. Histologic findings at the time of invasion included 15 well-differentiated (WD) carcinomas and 13 poorly differentiated (PD) carcinomas. Eight of the 28 patients (5 WD, 3 PD) underwent surgical resection of some portion of the aerodigestive tract with curative intent. Ten patients (8 WD, 2 PD) underwent incomplete resection with tumor left adjacent to aerodigestive tract structures. All patients undergoing incomplete resection developed local recurrence. Six required salvage resection, as opposed to no recurrences in WD carcinomas following complete resection (P = .01). Survival at 5 years for WD carcinomas undergoing complete resection versus initial incomplete resection was 100% versus 50%, respectively (P = .27). CONCLUSION: Review of our experience shows that complete resection of thyroid carcinoma invading the aerodigestive tract can offer prolonged palliation, improved local control, and the opportunity for cure in selected patients.  相似文献

We report a simple and safe technology where rather pure Hg-1201 phase superconducting bulk samples can be fabricated. The pellet was heated at about 700°C for only 30 min in open air under atmospheric pressure. We have found that a dehydration process (heating for 20 h at 250°C) is a crucial procedure for success in forming the Hg-1201 phase.  相似文献

The simultaneous determination of amino and organic acids in plant tissue extracts using capillary gas chromatography is described. Plant leaves were extracted in 5% (w/v) perchloric acid and neutralized extracts were purified using C18 cartridges. The amino and organic acids in purified extracts were then converted to tert-butyldimethylsilyl (TBDMS) derivatives prior to separation and detection by capillary gas chromatography (GC) with flame ionization detection. Conditions required for optimal derivatization were investigated. Amino and organic acids were readily converted to their TBDMS derivatives using N-methyl-N-tert-butyldimethylsilyltrifluoroacetamide in dimethylformamide solvent 1:6 (v/v) with an average recovery of 90% and a reproducibility of about 5%. The characteristic [M-57] and [M-159] fragment ion of the TBDMS derivatives was confirmed using GC-MS. The proposed method was demonstrated by the determination of amino and organic acids in extracts of Acacia and Eucalyptus leaves, where detection limits were 1-20 ng.  相似文献

It is generally believed that protein phosphorylation is an important mechanism through which the functions of voltage- and ligand-gated channels are modulated. The intracellular carboxyl terminus of P2X2 receptor contains several consensus phosphorylation sites for cyclic AMP (cAMP)-dependent protein kinase (PKA) and protein kinase C (PKC), suggesting that the function of the P2X2 purinoceptor could be regulated by the protein phosphorylation. Whole-cell voltage-clamp recording was used to record ATP-evoked cationic currents from human embryonic kidney (HEK) 293 cells stably transfected with the cDNA encoding the rat P2X2 receptor. Dialyzing HEK 293 cells with phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate, a PKC activator, failed to affect the amplitude and kinetics of the ATP-induced cationic current. The role of PKA phosphorylation in modulating the function of the P2X2 receptor was investigated by internally perfusing HEK 293 cells with 8-bromo-cAMP or the purified catalytic subunit of PKA. Both 8-bromo-cAMP and PKA catalytic subunit caused a reduction in the magnitude of the ATP-activated current without affecting the inactivation kinetics and the value of reversal potential. Site-directed mutagenesis was also performed to replace the intracellular PKA consensus phosphorylation site (Ser431) with a cysteine residue. In HEK 293 cells expressing (S431C) mutant P2X2 receptors, intracellular perfusion of 8-bromo-cAMP or purified PKA catalytic subunit did not affect the amplitude of the ATP-evoked current. These results suggest that as with other ligand-gated ion channels, protein phosphorylation by PKA could play an important role in regulating the function of the P2X2 receptor and ATP-mediated physiological effects in the nervous system.  相似文献
