Forecasting the foreign exchange rate is an uphill task. Numerous methods have been used over the years to develop an efficient and reliable network for forecasting the foreign exchange rate. This study utilizes recurrent neural networks (RNNs) for forecasting the foreign currency exchange rates. Cartesian genetic programming (CGP) is used for evolving the artificial neural network (ANN) to produce the prediction model. RNNs that are evolved through CGP have shown great promise in time series forecasting. The proposed approach utilizes the trends present in the historical data for its training purpose. Thirteen different currencies along with the trade-weighted index (TWI) and special drawing rights (SDR) is used for the performance analysis of recurrent Cartesian genetic programming-based artificial neural networks (RCGPANN) in comparison with various other prediction models proposed to date. The experimental results show that RCGPANN is not only capable of obtaining an accurate but also a computationally efficient prediction model for the foreign currency exchange rates. The results demonstrated a prediction accuracy of 98.872 percent (using 6 neurons only) for a single-day prediction in advance and, on average, 92% for predicting a 1000 days’ exchange rate in advance based on ten days of data history. The results prove RCGPANN to be the ultimate choice for any time series data prediction, and its capabilities can be explored in a range of other fields.  相似文献

In present work, the concentrations of toxic elements, aluminium (Al), cadmium (Cd), nickel (Ni) and lead (Pb) were measured in different solid baby foods (BFs), primarily to evaluate whether the intakes comply within permissible levels of these toxic elements (TEs). The BFs were evaluated for total contents of TEs, using a simple and fast ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) method. The accuracy of the proposed UAE method was ensured by using certified reference materials and results obtained by conventional wet acid digestion method on same CRM, at 95% confidence level. The range of the investigated TEs in different BFs were 4770–35,200, 25.6–88.3, 124–332 and 52.5–90.6 μg/kg for Al, Cd, Ni and Pb, respectively. The results indicated that BFs including rice cereals have high level of all four TEs. The daily intakes of TEs for children through BFs have also been estimated, and are well below the recommended tolerable levels.  相似文献

The use of precast concrete systems offers several advantages such as speedy erection, higher quality, lower project cost, better sustainability, and enhanced occupational health and safety. In spite of these advantages, the share of precast concrete systems in the U.S. building construction market is very low. The factors behind this low market share are discussed in several studies. This study aims to identify the current factors that affect the use of precast concrete systems, compare them with the ones that prevailed in 1995, and figure out what has changed through the last 11?years in the American precast concrete industry. The findings of an extensive survey indicate that most of the dominating barriers to the extensive use of precast concrete systems in 1995 are either eliminated or drastically reduced, while some of them still prevail. Practitioners should be well informed about the factors that affect the use of precast concrete systems if these systems are to be used more extensively.  相似文献

In this review, an overview of various types of nanofillers is presented with special emphasis on structure, synthesis and properties of carbon nanotube, nanodiamond, and nanobifiller of carbon nanotube/nanodiamond, carbon nanotube/graphene oxide and carbon nanotube/graphene. In addition, polymer/carbon nanotube, polymer/nanodiamond, and polymer/nanobifiller composites have been discussed. The efficacy of different fabrication techniques for nanocomposites (solution casting, in-situ, and melt blending method) and their properties were also discussed in detail. Finally, we have summarized the challenges and future prospects of polymer nanocomposites reinforced with carbon nanofillers hoping to facilitate progress in the emerging area of nanobifiller technology.  相似文献

A neuro-inspired multi-chromosomal genotype for a single developmental neuron capable of learning and developing memory is proposed. This genotype is evolved so that the phenotype which changes and develops during an agent's lifetime (while problem-solving) gives the agent the capacity for learning by experience. Seven important processes of signal processing and neural structure development are identified from biology and encoded using Cartesian Genetic Programming. These chromosomes represent the electrical and developmental aspects of dendrites, axonal branches, synapses and the neuron soma. The neural morphology that occurs by running these chromosomes is highly dynamic. The dendritic/axonal branches and synaptic connections form and change in response to situations encountered in the learning task. The approach has been evaluated in the context of maze-solving and the board game of checkers (draughts) demonstrating interesting learning capabilities. The motivation underlying this research is to, ab initio, evolve genotypes that build phenotypes with an ability to learn.  相似文献

This study investigates the interaction of natural organic matter with iron oxide (goethite) on chlorine decay, disinfection by-product (DBP) formation, and DBP compound speciation [total trihalomethanes (TTHM4) and haloacetic acids (HAA5)]. Batch experiments were conducted with goethite, multiple finished drinking waters, variable chlorine dose, and fixed pH 8. The overall objective was to assess natural organic matter (NOM) adsorption onto goethite and its effect on chlorine decay and DBP formation. Chlorine consumption always increased in the presence of goethite and is attributed to an increase in the reactivity and/or modification of adsorbed NOM. Adsorbed NOM also led to an overall increase in TTHM4, however, HAA5 formation was suppressed during the first 2?h. Chloroform was identified as the increasing species and dichloracetic acid was identified as the suppressed species. This study clearly shows that goethite, which is the predominant iron oxide of pipe deposits, alters both chlorine decay and DBP formation and should be considered when assessing water treatment plant operations and DBP monitoring site selection.  相似文献

Anaerobic reactors have acquired a new relevance in recent years due to their ability to generate methane from biodegradable wastewaters—thereby producing clean energy. Methane capture in this manner also prevents the escape of the greenhouse gas to the atmosphere which otherwise occurs when anaerobic conditions develop in drains and outfalls carrying wastewater. Of all the different types of anaerobic reactors in vogue - anaerobic filter, downflow fixed-film reactor, expanded fluidized-bed anaerobic reactor, etc. - the upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor is arguably the most widely used. Nearly 80% of the world's anaerobic wastewater treatment systems are estimated to be based on the UASB technology. The functioning of a UASB reactor revolves round its sludge bed which gets expanded as the wastewater is made to flow vertically upwards through it. It is the microflora attached to the sludge particles which acts upon the wastewater. Hence the quality of biofilms sported by the sludge particles, and the intimacy of the sludge-wastewater contact are the factors which, principally, govern the success of a UASB reactor. Very early in the development of UASB technology it was realized that granular sludge of appropriate particle size, particle density, and microfilm characteristics enhances the reactor efficiency in terms of the rate as well as the extent of wastewater treatment. From then onwards efforts have been made by scientists across the world to understand the factors which shape the granules and the manner in which the granules contribute to wastewater treatment. There are many image fusion processes to produce a high-resolution multispectral (MS) image from low-resolution MS and high-resolution panchromatic (PAN) images. But the most significant problems are colour distortion and fusion quality. Previously, we reported a fusion process that produced a1 m resolution IKONOS fused image with minimal spectral distortion. However, block distortion appeared at the edge of the curved sections of the fused image, which was reduced by performing the wavelet transformation as a post-process. Here, we propose an image fusion process using the steepest descent method with bi-linear interpolation, which can remove block distortion without using wavelet transformation. Bi-linear interpolation provides the proper initial values of the fused image, and then the steepest descent method produces the optimum results of the fusion process. These results achieve improvement on the spectral as well as spatial quality of a1 m resolution fused image when compared with other existing methods and remove block distortion completely.  相似文献
