Segregation of mono-disperse binary mixtures with different particle densities during die filling in the presence of air was numerically analysed using a coupled discrete element method (DEM) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) approach. Die filling with powders of different particle density ratios (i.e. the ratio of the heavy particles to the light particles) at various shoe speeds was simulated, in order to explore the effects of air and particle density difference on segregation. For die filling from a stationary shoe, the air can induce significant segregation by hindering the deposition of light particles (i.e., air-sensitive particles). As the particle density ratio increases, the light particles are deposited into the die at even lower speeds compared with the heavy ones due to the effect of air drag, resulting in an increase in the degree of segregation. For die filling with a moving shoe, segregation occurs due to different post-collisional velocities resulting from different particle inertia; and the degree of segregation increases as the particle density ratio increases due to the increasing difference in particle inertia. It is found that, as the shoe velocity increases, the powder flow pattern changes from nose flow dominated to bulk flow dominated and the degree of segregation generally decreases. The effect of air is limited for nose flow dominated die filling because the air can easily evacuate through the gap between the die walls and flowing powder stream. When bulk flow dominates in die filling, the air can be entrapped in the die, which has a significant impact on the powder flow and segregation behaviours. Finally, the effect of interparticle friction on segregation was investigated.  相似文献

Rehabilitation of the Middle Rio Grande (MRG) in central New Mexico has become necessary because of changes in morphology resulting from the installation of dams, and because of habitat restoration considerations for the endangered Rio Grande silvery minnow (Hybognathus amarus). Bendway weirs are erosion control and channel‐stabilization structures placed transverse to the channel flow that have been increasingly used to prevent river migration while simultaneously enhancing aquatic habitat. Plans for rehabilitation along the MRG include the use of bendway weirs; however, past projects using these structures have relied on field experience and engineering judgment rather than specific design guidelines. A physical model of a reach of the MRG was constructed to develop empirical design equations for eddy velocities in bendway weir fields. Data from physical model simulations were used to develop two empirical expressions for predicting eddy velocities behind bendway weirs, along with two expressions for predicting velocities at the toe of installed weirs. These equations relate the velocity found after bendway weir installation to weir design characteristics and pre‐weir channel conditions. A designer can use the described approach to predict velocities in eddies and velocities at the toe of bendway weirs using only weir design variables and pre‐weir channel conditions, and thus avoid some of the uncertainty with weir design that previously existed. A two-phase control wrapper for a micropipeline is presented. The wrapper is implemented in an Artisan 0.13/spl mu/ standard cell library that has not been augmented with any special cells for asynchronous design. The wrapper supports early evaluation allowing the output to be updated after a subset of the inputs have arrived, thus improving the throughput of the micropipeline.  相似文献

PURPOSE: Looking for a valid, reliable, and feasible method to collect data on the performances of practicing family physicians, the authors compare the measurement characteristics of a multiple-station examination (MSE) using standardized patients with those of a video assessment of regular consultations in daily practice (practice video assessment, PVA). METHOD: In a cross-sectional study, consultations of 90 family physicians were videotaped both in an MSE and in their daily practices. Peer-observers used a validated instrument (MAAS-Global) to assess the physicians' communication with patients and their medical performances. The physicians were randomly divided into two groups, comparable for demographic characteristics, and half underwent the assessments in reverse order to test for time-order effects. Content validity, criterion validity, reliability, and feasibility of the two methods were compared. RESULTS: Content validity of the PVA was superior to that of the MSE, since the domain of general family practice care was better covered. Observed participants judged the videotaped practice consultations to be "natural," whereas hardly any family physician, after reviewing the videotaped consultations of the MSE, recognized his or her usual working style. Specific criteria made it possible to standardize real practice. Concerning criterion validity, only the medical-performance components of the two methods correlated. No correlation was found for the communication components. Real-practice performance proved to be less influenced by observation than was performance during the MSE. The reliabilities of the two methods, expected to be better in the controlled MSE, were comparable. The administration of the PVA was more flexible, less costly, and better accepted by the family physicians than was that of the MSE. CONCLUSION: Assessment for quality improvement of family physicians' practices by video observation in daily practice is superior to video assessment in a simulated setting using standardized patients.  相似文献

The literature regarding the influence of nonmetallic inclusions on the mechanical properties of steel is reviewed, with critical comments on various studies. A brief discussion of inclusion rating methods and a synopsis of the effects of applied stress on inclusions in an isotropic, elastic matrix are presented. The parameters considered are tensile strength, impact strength, reduction of area, fatigue properties and fracture toughness. It is concluded that in many applications, the type of inclusions are more important than the total content and as matrix strength increases, the notch effect of inclusions becomes more significant. Also, mechanical properties can be influenced by any one or a combination of the following inclusion parameters; shape, size, quantity, interspacing, distribution, orientation, interfacial strength, and physical properties relative to the matrix.  相似文献

Regulators of G protein signaling (RGS) proteins act as GTPase-activating proteins (GAPs) toward the alpha subunits of heterotrimeric, signal-transducing G proteins. RGS11 contains a G protein gamma subunit-like (GGL) domain between its Dishevelled/Egl-10/Pleckstrin and RGS domains. GGL domains are also found in RGS6, RGS7, RGS9, and the Caenorhabditis elegans protein EGL-10. Coexpression of RGS11 with different Gbeta subunits reveals specific interaction between RGS11 and Gbeta5. The expression of mRNA for RGS11 and Gbeta5 in human tissues overlaps. The Gbeta5/RGS11 heterodimer acts as a GAP on Galphao, apparently selectively. RGS proteins that contain GGL domains appear to act as GAPs for Galpha proteins and form complexes with specific Gbeta subunits, adding to the combinatorial complexity of G protein-mediated signaling pathways.  相似文献
