Rotating biological contactor is being widely used for wastewater treatment but there is an apparent lack of knowledge about the rate at which oxygen transfer occurs, in physical and biological system. In this study the transfer of oxygen from air to water by a rotating disc air-liquid contactor in physical system is investigated. The oxygen transfer model suggested by Kim and Molof, Water Sci. Technol. 14 (1982) 569, was modified and the developed model is termed as modified Kim and Molof model. The model was calibrated by using available data in literature and validated by experiments conducted in this study. The effect of significant physical parameters was integrated into a single term and is termed as volume renewal number. The modified Kim and Molof model was compared with the other available models. The coefficient of determination (R(2)) for the modified Kim and Molof model obtained is 0.95 which is much higher than in the other available models. Thereby the model is expected to estimate oxygen transfer more accurately. Further, a simplified linear model between K(L)a and the volume renewal number is proposed. Both modified Kim and Molof and linear model estimate the overall oxygen transfer coefficient (K(L)a) accurately.  相似文献

The behavior of superconducting transition temperature TC in superconducting/ferromagnetic (S/F) multilayers as a function of different layer thicknesses and for varying magnetic moment μB of the F layer atoms is studied. Multilayer structures consist of five bilayers of constant superconducting Nb layer thickness of 400 Å and Fe of 6 and 24 Å each. The analysis of the magnetization data revealed that for tFe=6 Å, the Fe layer is non-magnetic. The interpretation of the observed TC behavior is attributed to the change of the interaction of the cooper pairs with this layer at the onset of ferromagnetism for tFe=6 Å. The hysteresis curve recorded under isothermal conditions at 4.5 K for [Nb (400 Å)/Fe (6 Å)]5 multilayers shows the usual MH hysteresis behavior which is typical of a hard type-II superconductor exhibiting an irreversibility field Hirr of 3.5 kOe with substantial pinning at lower field. In addition, [Nb(400 Å)/Fe(6 Å)]5 multilayer displays anomalous behavior in the form of paramagnetic peak in the superconducting state just below the transition temperature TC=6.25 K.  相似文献

An amorphous iron nitride thin film was deposited using reactive ion beam sputtering of iron by a beam of argon and nitrogen ions. Nitrogen content in the film as determined from conversion electron Mössbauer spectroscopy (CEMS) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) was FeN0.7. The mass density of the film was calculated using energy-dispersive X-ray reflectivity (EDXRR) measurements and is found to be 6.0 gm/cm3. CEMS shows that the film is nonmagnetic in nature. Morphology of the film is obtained from atomic force microscopy (AFM). The surface roughness of the film does not increase appreciably beyond that of the substrate even after a deposition of 131 nm of material with these qualities the film is a good candidate for the multilayer superstructure of a nuclear Bragg monochromator of the type 56FeN0.7/57FeN0.7.  相似文献

Outstanding functional tunability underpinning metal–organic framework (MOF) confers a versatile platform to contrive next‐generation chemical sensors, optoelectronics, energy harvesters, and converters. A rare exemplar of a porous 2D nanosheet material constructed from an extended 3D MOF structure is reported. A rapid supramolecular self‐assembly methodology at ambient conditions to synthesize readily exfoliatable MOF nanosheets, functionalized in situ by adopting the guest@MOF (host) strategy, is developed. Nanoscale confinement of light‐emitting molecules (as functional guest) inside the MOF pores generates unusual combination of optical, electronic, and chemical properties, arising from the strong host–guest coupling effects. Highly promising photonics‐based chemical sensing opened up by the new guest@MOF composite systems is shown. By harnessing host–guest optochemical interactions of functionalized MOF nanosheets, detection of an extensive range of volatile organic compounds and small molecules important for many practical applications has been accomplished.  相似文献

Grain refinement of bulk metals using severe plastic deformation (SPD) is a popular approach to improve both strength and toughness. In this paper, grain refinement of steel processed by warm multiaxial forging (MAF) and its mechanical behavior has been investigated. Coarse-grained, plain low carbon steel was deformed using MAF at 500 °C. Microstructural evolution is characterized using electron backscattered diffraction and mechanical behavior has been studied. Fraction of low angle grain boundaries (LAB) is observed to increase with strain up to total engineering strain of 1.3 thereafter it starts decreasing whereas, high angle grain boundaries showed just the opposite trend. It appears that initially grain subdivision takes place with imposition of strain thereby increasing the fraction of LAB. After a critical strain these LAB transforms into the high angle boundaries (HAB). The initial coarser grains of average 30 μm size subdivided into grains of the size finer than 0.5 μm. This has been confirmed by TEM micrographs. Improved tensile strengths and hardness values are obtained after warm MAF.  相似文献

Multifunctional graphene oxide/reduced graphene oxide (GO/RGO) composites were prepared through electrostatic interaction using biocompatible ingredients. Different functionalities were added to GO/RGO by anchoring materials such as native lactoferrin (NLf), NLf protected Au clusters (designated as Au@NLf), chitosan (Ch) and combinations thereof. Anchoring of Ch and NLf enhances the antibacterial property of RGO/GO. The addition of Ch to RGO/GO not only helped in forming stable dispersions but also helped in fabricating large (cm(2)) area films through a simple solvent evaporation technique. Functionalities such as photoluminescence were added to Ch-RGO/GO composites by anchoring Au@NLf on it. The composites thus formed showed stable luminescence in presence of various metal ions in the solid state. The composite showed reasonable stability against pH and temperature variations as well. The as-prepared films were transparent and the transparency could be modulated by controlling the concentration of RGO/GO in the composite. The antibacterial property and ability to form stable thin films may provide an opportunity to use such composites for medical and environmental remediation applications as well. Erasable patterns were fabricated on the film by stamping required patterns under compressive pressure. Luminescent patterns can be inscribed on the film and can be erased by simply wetting it. Such films with erasable information may be useful for security applications.  相似文献

5d-metal mononitrides and monoborides viz. X-N and X-B (X = La, Hf, Ta, W, Re, Os, Ir, Pt, Au, Hg) are studied using density functional method based B3LYP functional with LANL2DZ and SDD basis set. The lowest spin state, electron affinities, ionization potentials and binding energies for mononitrides and monoborides are obtained. The electronic state and electronic configuration of mononitrides and monoborides are discussed. Orbitals involved in bond formation are identified. The properties of mononitrides and monoborides are compared. It is found that 5d-metal atoms form stronger bond with nitrogen atom than the boron atom. The range of binding energy, electron affinity and ionization potential is wider for mononitrides than that for monoborides. The properties of 5d-metal mononitrides and 3d-metal mononitrides are also compared. The binding energies for the former are lower than those for the latter.  相似文献

The NiTiO3 nanoparticles with ilmenite phase were synthesized by the sol gel method and investigated for sensing of various volatile organic compounds. The resistive type sensing by NiTiO3 towards LPG was not reported earlier where the sensor showed fair response towards hydrogen sulfide gas, but the sensitivity towards LPG was very high. The response % for 150 ppm of LPG was approximately 3200% at room temperature. The high response towards LPG was due to the presence of some amount of rutile TiO2 in the composites. The response and recovery times of these sensors were very less (about 2 s) which could be attributed to the whiskers like structure of NiTiO3.  相似文献

Degradation of dyes especially, azo dyes are difficult due to their complex structure and synthetic nature. The main objective of this study was to evaluate the Fenton-biological (aerobic) treatment train for decolorization and mineralization of azo dyes viz. Reactive Black 5 (RB5), Reactive Blue 13 (RB13) and Acid Orange 7 (AO7). The objective of Fenton treatment was only to decolorize the dyes (breakage of -NN-), as it was considered that after breakage of -NN-, the dyes will become amenable to biodegradation and can be further treated in aerobic biological system. Hence studies were carried out to optimize the lower Fenton's doses for decolorization of dyes. The optimum doses for decolorization (>95%) of all the three dyes were found out to be 15 mgL(-1) of Fe(2+) (0.27 mM) and 50 mgL(-1) (1.47 mM) of H(2)O(2) dose at optimum pH 3. Further it was also investigated that at lower doses, the main problem of Fenton process (sludge generation) can also be minimized. Later the mineralization of the dye (removal of aromatic amines) was achieved in the aerobic biological treatment system. Overall reduction of 64, 89 and 75% in the aromatic amines (at 254 nm), 88, 95 and 78% in naphthalene ring associated compounds (near 310 nm) and 49, 89 and 91% reduction in benzene ring associated compounds (near 226 nm) were observed for RB5, RB13 and AO7, respectively. Thus this treatment system seems to be quite effective and economical option for the treatment of recalcitrant compounds like dyes, as the cost in the chemical treatment is considered mainly due to chemicals thus at lower doses the operational cost is saved. Further, as the sludge generation was almost negligible at lower doses, thus the savings in cost of handling and disposal of hazardous sludge also adds to economy of treatment.  相似文献
