The epidemiological indices of multiple myeloma and concomitant nephropathies

The authors have conducted an epidemiological study for multiple myeloma morbidity and mortality among 80,000 patients of the Medical Center examined in 1988-1995. Myeloma was diagnosed in 65 cases. Standard incidence rate was 4.09, 3.18 and 3.5 per 100,000 for myeloma in males, females and both sexes, respectively. Standard mortality was 2.76 and 1.73 per 100,000 for males and females, respectively. The above rates do not differ much from those of other countries. In terminal myeloma renal insufficiency occurred in 39 of 41 cases. In 8 cases chronic pyelonephritis was an independent course of renal failure thus indicating the importance of its persistent treatment.     

Automatic control and temperature regulation at the surface of dryer cylinders

Conclusions 1. Stabilization of the temperature at the surface of dryer cylinders heated by saturated steam over a range above 95°C can be effected by controlling the steam pressure.2. Where it is required to maintain the temperature of a dryer cylinder in a range below 95°C, a temperature sensing device must be incorporated in any automatic control system.3. An automatic control system, incorporating a temperature sensor which does not make contact with the surface, can enable the temperature of a dryer cylinder to be maintained within ±3°C over a range of 60–110°C.Novocherkassk Polytechnic Institute. On the basis of an experimental and theoretical investigation, the authors analyze the effect of the initial velocity of an aerosol on its subsequent motion.     

The temperature distribution in liquid metal cooled fuel elements

This article presents the results of experimental and analytical studies of temperature distributions and heat transfer in reactor cores with hexagonal fuel element assemblies. The temperatured is tributions in fuel elements in the central region and at the plane walls are analyzed. Some information i s given on the overheating of fuel element cladding under the spacing fins. Methodology and methods of the liquidators' health care are discussed.
