We present an algorithm for real-time, robust, vision-based active tracking and pursuit. The algorithm was designed to overcome problems arising from active vision-based pursuit, such as target occlusion. Our method employs two layers to deal with occlusions of different lengths. The first layer is for short- or medium-term occlusions: those where a known method—such as mean shift combined with a Kalman filter—fails. For this layer we designed the hybrid filter for active pursuit (HAP). HAP utilizes a Kalman filter modified to respond to two different modes of action: one in which the target is positively identified and one in which the target identification is uncertain. For long-term occlusions we use the second layer. This layer is a decision algorithm that follows a learning procedure and is based on game theory-related reinforcement (Cesa-Bianchi and Lugosi, Prediction Learning and Games, 2006). The learning process is based on trial and error and is designed to perform adequately with a small number of samples. The algorithm produces a data structure that can be shared among agents or sent to a central control of a multi-agent system. The learning process is designed so that agents perform tasks according to their skills: an efficient agent will pursue targets while an inefficient agent will search for entering targets. These capacities make this system well suited for embedding in a multi-agent control system.  相似文献

In this article, we consider a continuous‐time autoregressive moving average (CARMA) process driven by either a symmetric α‐stable Lévy process with α ∈ (0,2) or a symmetric Lévy process with finite second moments. In the asymptotic framework of high‐frequency data within a long time interval, we establish a consistent estimate for the normalized power transfer function by applying a smoothing filter to the periodogram of the CARMA process. We use this result to propose an estimator for the parameters of the CARMA process and exemplify the estimation procedure by a simulation study.  相似文献

Background/Aims

Insulin resistance (IR) plays an important role in the pathogenesis of diabetes and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Current methods for insulin resistance detection are cumbersome, or not sensitive enough for early detection and follow-up. The BreathID® system can continuously analyse breath samples in real-time at the point-of-care. Here we determined the efficacy of the BreathID® using the 13C-Glucose breath test (GBT) for evaluation of insulin resistance.

Methods

Twenty healthy volunteers were orally administered 75 mg of 13C-glucose 1-13C. An oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) was performed immediately; followed by serum glucose and insulin level determinations using GBT. GBT and OGTT were repeated following exercise, which alters insulin resistance levels.

Results

Within-subject correlations of GBT parameters with serum glucose and serum insulin levels were high. Before and after exercise, between-subjects correlations were high between the relative insulin levels and the % dose recoveries at 90 min (PDR 90), and the cumulative PDRs at 60 min (CPDR 60). Pairwise correlations were identified between pre-exercise Homeostasis Model Assessment (HOMA) IR at 90 min and PDR 90; HOMA B (for beta cell function) 120 and CPDR 30; HOMA IR 60 and peak time post-exercise; and HOMA B 150 with PDR 150.

Conclusions

The non-invasive real-time BreathID® GBT reliably assesses changes in liver glucose metabolism, and the degree of insulin resistance. It may serve as a non-invasive tool for early diagnosis and follow up of patients in high-risk groups.

Background

Exposure to fine ambient particulate matter (PM) has consistently been associated with increased morbidity and mortality. The relationship between exposure to ultrafine particles (UFP) and health effects is less firmly established. If UFP cause health effects independently from coarser fractions, this could affect health impact assessment of air pollution, which would possibly lead to alternative policy options to be considered to reduce the disease burden of PM. Therefore, we organized an expert elicitation workshop to assess the evidence for a causal relationship between exposure to UFP and health endpoints.

Methods

An expert elicitation on the health effects of ambient ultrafine particle exposure was carried out, focusing on: 1) the likelihood of causal relationships with key health endpoints, and 2) the likelihood of potential causal pathways for cardiac events. Based on a systematic peer-nomination procedure, fourteen European experts (epidemiologists, toxicologists and clinicians) were selected, of whom twelve attended. They were provided with a briefing book containing key literature. After a group discussion, individual expert judgments in the form of ratings of the likelihood of causal relationships and pathways were obtained using a confidence scheme adapted from the one used by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

Results

The likelihood of an independent causal relationship between increased short-term UFP exposure and increased all-cause mortality, hospital admissions for cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, aggravation of asthma symptoms and lung function decrements was rated medium to high by most experts. The likelihood for long-term UFP exposure to be causally related to all cause mortality, cardiovascular and respiratory morbidity and lung cancer was rated slightly lower, mostly medium. The experts rated the likelihood of each of the six identified possible causal pathways separately. Out of these six, the highest likelihood was rated for the pathway involving respiratory inflammation and subsequent thrombotic effects.

Conclusion

The overall medium to high likelihood rating of causality of health effects of UFP exposure and the high likelihood rating of at least one of the proposed causal mechanisms explaining associations between UFP and cardiac events, stresses the importance of considering UFP in future health impact assessments of (transport-related) air pollution, and the need for further research on UFP exposure and health effects.  相似文献

We report the structural and functional features of two new catalysts: a mononuclear [Fe(N5mpy)(CH3CN)](BF4)2 (N5mpy = (N,N′E,N,N′E)-N,N′-(pyridine-2,6-diylbis(ethan-1-yl-1-ylidene))bis(1-(pyridin-2-yl)methanamine)) complex and a binuclear {[Fe(N5mpy)]2O}(BF4)4 complex. Both compounds catalyze the oxidation of alkanes by H2O2, in MeCN or acetone to yield alcohols and ketones. Moderate to good yields are obtained with various cyclic and benzylic alkanes. Screening of several substrates revealed that higher yields are obtained for the oxidation of alkanes with low C–H bond dissociation energies. The ratio alcohol/ketone observed suggests the involvement of iron-based oxidizing species.  相似文献

Notwithstanding the food-for-fuel debate, turning waste cooking oil and fat (WCO) into a valuable product is a classic example of green chemistry. We demonstrate that sulfated zirconia and lanthanum-supported sulfated zirconia are good catalysts for the esterification of WCO free fatty acids (FFAs) with glycerol, giving high-value monoglycerides. Various catalysts were first screened using palmitic acid as a model FFA. Subsequently, six 10-kg batches of actual WCO were collected from commercial cookeries over a period of 28 weeks, pre-treated in a purpose-built decanter and esterified with industrial grade glycerol using heterogeneous catalysis. Good yield and turnovers were obtained. The pre-treatment stage and the catalytic esterification experiments are described and discussed.  相似文献

Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and substance P (SP) are known from animal models and in vitro studies as proinflammatory mediators. In this study, peripheral blood concentrations of H2S and SP were measured in patients with Escherichia coli or Klebsiella pneumoniae bacteraemia. Fifty patients were recruited from general wards at Christchurch Hospital, during 2020–2021. Samples from age- and sex-matched healthy subjects previously recruited as controls for studies of cardiovascular disease were used as controls. The concentrations of H2S were higher than controls on day 0, day 1, and day 2, and SP was higher than controls on all 4 days. The concentrations of H2S were highest on day 0, whereas SP concentrations were higher on day 2 than other days. Interleukin-6 and C-reactive protein were significantly higher on day 0 and day 1, respectively. The concentrations of H2S and SP did not differ between 15 non-septic (SIRS 0-1) and the 35 septic subjects (SIRS ≥ 2). Substance P concentrations were higher in subjects with abdominal infection than urinary tract infections on day 0 (p = 0.0002) and day 1 (p = 0.0091). In conclusion, the peak H2S concentrations precede the SP peak in patients with Gram-negative bacteraemia, but this response varies with the site of infection.  相似文献

Four experiments examined effects of peripheral cue stimuli on covert spatial attention. In Experiment 1 target stimuli were preceded by a pair of bilaterally presented cue letters. The relative location of the cues predicted target location (left or right), but participants were not informed of this. After a brief practice period, visual orienting was influenced by the letter cues. This implicit peripheral cuing effect was unrelated to participants' awareness of the cue-target relationship. Experiments 2 and 3 showed that visual orienting may occur independently of both perceptual awareness of the peripheral cue event itself and contingency awareness concerning the cue–target relation. Experiment 4 demonstrated that implicit peripheral cuing is qualitatively distinct from voluntary orienting. Scope: Health benefits of prebiotic administration have been judged mainly from the increased numbers of bifidobacteria and the enhanced production of short‐chain fatty acids in the colon. Only a few studies have focused on the capacity of prebiotics to decrease the proteolytic fermentation, which might contribute to health as well. Methods and results: The influence of the prebiotic oligofructose‐enriched inulin (OF‐IN) on the pattern of volatile organic compounds was characterized using an in vitro faecal model. Faecal slurries, obtained from healthy subjects, were anaerobically incubated at 37°C with and without different doses of OF‐IN (2.5, 5, 10, or 20 mg) and changes in the metabolite pattern and pH were evaluated. A total of 107 different volatile organic compounds were identified and classified according to their chemical classes. The concentration of esters and acids significantly increased with increasing doses of OF‐IN. Similar effects were observed for some aldehydes. To the contrary, OF‐IN dose‐dependently inhibited the formation of S‐compounds. Also, the generation of other protein fermentation metabolites such as phenolic compounds was inhibited in the presence of OF‐IN. Conclusion: Our results confirmed a clear dose‐dependent stimulation of saccharolytic fermentation. Importantly, a significant decrease in toxic protein fermentation metabolites such as sulphides attended these effects.  相似文献
