Improving Software Performance with Configurable Logic   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
We examine the energy and performance benefits that can be obtained by re-mapping frequently executed loops from a microprocessor to reconfigurable logic. We present a design flow that finds critical software loops automatically and manually re-implements these inconfigurable logic by implementing them in SA-C, a C language variation supportinga dataflow computation model and designed to specify and map DSP applicationsonto reconfigurable logic. We apply this design flow on several examples fromthe MediaBench benchmark suite and report the energy and performance improvements.  相似文献

A cluster of infections caused by Enterobacter cloacae was observed among preterm neonates in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) of a pediatric hospital in Osnabrück, Germany. The presence of similar antimicrobial susceptibility patterns among the bacterial isolates prompted an investigation to determine whether a limited spread of a single strain existed. All 12 E. cloacae isolates from the NICU and 50 nonrelated strains were fingerprinted by small-fragment restriction endonuclease analysis (SF-REA) of EcoRI DNA digests. Selected isolates were further characterized by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) of NotI- or XbaI-generated genomic restriction fragments. Epidemiologically unrelated strains were clearly discriminated by both methods. Results achieved by SF-REA and PFGE revealed that of the 12 isolates from the NICU, 11 belonged to the same genotypic cluster. Since all reagents and equipment for both techniques are commercially available, DNA fingerprinting by SF-REA or PFGE is proposed as a useful tool in the microbiology laboratory for investigating the epidemiological relatedness of E. cloacae strains of clinical and environmental origin.  相似文献

The need for selective matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) inhibition is of interest because of the range of pathologies mediated by different MMP isoforms. The development of more selective MMP inhibitors (MMPi) may help to overcome some of the undesired side effects that have hindered the clinical success of these compounds. In an effort to devise new approaches to selective inhibitors, herein we describe several novel MMPi and show that their selectivity is dependent on the nature of the zinc-binding group (ZBG). This is in contrast to most current MMPi, which obtain isoform selectivity solely from the peptidomimetic backbone portion of the compound. In the present study, six different hydroxypyrone and hydroxypyridinone ZBGs were appended to a common biphenyl backbone and the inhibition efficiency of each inhibitor was determined in vitro (IC(50) values) against MMP-1, -2, -3, -7, -8, -9, -12, and -13. The results show that the selectivity profile of each inhibitor is different as a result of the various ZBGs. Computational modeling studies were used to explain some trends in the observed selectivity profiles. To assess the importance of the ZBG in a biological model, two of the semiselective, potent MMPi (and one control) were evaluated using an isolated perfused rat heart system. Hearts were subjected to ischemia reperfusion injury, and recovery of contractile function was examined. In this model, only one of the two MMPi showed significant and sustained heart recovery, demonstrating that the choice of ZBG can have a significant effect in a relevant pathophysiological endpoint.  相似文献

The teratogenic effect of toxins 544 and 514 from K. humboldtiana upon the mouse embryo was evaluated. One half of the LD50 dose for the mouse was administered at day 8 of gestation. At the end of pregnancy, reproduction and fetal data were recorded. Dams treated with toxin 544, but not with toxin 514, showed a higher incidence of reabsorptions, malformations, as well as lower fetal length compared to the control group.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Food and Drug Administration regulations state that ciprofloxacin hydrochloride may cause arthropathies. For this reason, such therapy is contraindicated in the pediatric population. However, several studies in children with cystic fibrosis have found the drug to be efficacious. Our hypothesis was that ciprofloxacin treatment is justified in the case of multiresistant organisms in burn populations. DESIGN: During a 4-year period (January 1, 1993, to December 31, 1997) we treated 56 of our pediatric burn patients with ciprofloxacin when cultures proved resistant to other antibiotics. The burn area was 65% of the total body surface area. The average patient age was 8.4 years. Of the 56 patients who received ciprofloxacin, 50 received the recommended dose. Biopsy specimens were assessed for quantitative bacteriology and antibiotic sensitivity. Radiologic review was conducted to examine for arthropathy. RESULTS: All patients showed unequivocal reduction in quantitative bacterial counts, and susceptibility to ciprofloxacin remained stable without the development of resistance. Of the 56 patients treated, 42 had a major reduction in their quantitative wound biopsies from 10(6) to less than 100 colonies per gram of tissue, while the remaining 14 were observed to have a 2- to 3-log decrease. No arthropathy was detected in any of the 56 patients receiving ciprofloxacin. Review of the patients' charts showed no documented adverse events associated with the use of ciprofloxacin. All patients survived their thermal injury and the complications associated with it without any untoward problems or complications of arthropathy. CONCLUSION: On the basis of these data, ciprofloxacin therapy in the treatment of immunosuppressed pediatric burn patients is efficacious and does not cause arthropathy.  相似文献
