The paper provides a commentary on two qualitative case studies of therapist use of immediacy in two brief interpersonal psychotherapies involving two senior White male clinicians and two young female patients with diverse identities (Hill et al., 2008; see record 2008-13167-001; Kaspar, Hill, & Kivlighan, 2008; see record 2008-13167-002). The commentary proposes an alternative interpersonal model by which the data collected could be examined. The model suggests that therapist and patient interact in a complex process of power and affection toward mutual recognition, which is further shaped by their respective gender and cultural identities. Several implications for the study of the psychotherapeutic situation based on this interpersonal model are presented, including using observer-based measures that can assess power plays and therapist immediate awareness, as well as another qualitative strategy that would capture the richness of clinical process. This article deals with the global aging behavior of three polypropylene random copolymer (PP-R) materials with varying primary structure and morphology. Hot air aging experiments at elevated temperatures from 95 to 135 °C were carried out using micro-sized specimens with a thickness of 100 μm. Technological and analytical aging indicators were monitored for an exposure time of up to 750 days. Independent of comonomer type (ethylene vs. butylene) and morphology (α vs. β crystal form) a critical molar mass of 300 kg mol−1 was obtained. The consumption of antioxidants was slower for the β-nucleated PP-R grade with finer spherulitic structure. The β-grade outperformed the α-crystal PP-R grades resulting in about 20% higher time-to-embrittlement values. © 2018 The Authors. Laser confocal microscopy is used to analyze the morphology of an epoxy resin (DGEBA) modified with different amounts of toughening agent carboxyl terminated butadiene acrylonitrile (CTBN). The size and phase volume of the distributed spherical toughening particles is ranging from 0.7 to 1.6 µm and 5 to 40 vol %, respectively. These morphological parameters and particles/µm2 reveal a nonlinear relationship with the amount of toughening agent. With increasing particle size and number the glass transition temperature and the tensile modulus are decreasing, whereas the fracture toughness increases. Particles larger than 1.3 µm and a value of particles/µm2 higher than 0.15 exhibit a more significant impact on the resin properties. Linear correlations between the rubber phase volume and the glass transition temperatures as well as the mechanical properties, i.e., tensile modulus and fracture toughness are ascertained. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. By the reaction of a number of oligosilyl potassium compounds with (trimethylsilyl)chloromethane, derivatives containing the (trimethylsilyl)methyl substituent were prepared. Using X-ray single-crystal structure analysis and UV spectroscopy the conformational properties of some of the compounds were studied. It was found that the (trimethylsilyl)methylated examples exhibit UV absorption properties which correspond to lower energy transitions in comparison to those of analogous trimethylsilylated molecules. Fifty years after the advent of antibiotics for clinical use, the rates of morbidity and mortality associated with bacterial meningitis remain high. The unfavourable clinical outcome is often due to intracranial complications including cerebrovascular insults, raised intracranial pressure, hydrocephalus, and brain edema. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are known effector molecules in the antimicrobial armature of polymorphonuclear and mononuclear phagocytes. However, over the last decade, there has been a substantial body of work implicating a central role of ROS in the development of intracranial complications and brain damage in bacterial meningitis. Recently, it also became evident that reactive nitrogen species (RNS), especially nitric oxide, are important mediators of meningitis-associated pathophysiological changes, at least during the early phase of the disease. There is now substantial evidence that much of the oxidative injury associated by simultaneous production of superoxide and nitric oxide is mediated by the strong oxidant peroxynitrite. ROS and peroxynitrite can be cytotoxic via a number of independent mechanisms. Their cytotoxic effects include initiation of lipid peroxidation and induction of DNA single strand breakage. Damaged DNA activates poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP). Recent experimental data propose a role of lipid peroxidation and PARP activation in the development of meningitis-associated intracranial complications and brain injury. Agents which interfere with the production of ROS and peroxynitrite, as well as with PARP activation and lipid peroxidation may represent novel, therapeutic strategies to limit meningitis-associated brain damage, and, thus, to improve the outcome of this serious disease. 相似文献
