Corn meal of various particle sizes ranging from 180 to 710 μm were processed in a twin-screw extruder to produce directly expanded extrudates. The extrusion process effects on the specific mechanical energy (SME), expansion indexes (radial, longitudinal and volumetric), pasting viscosity, water absorption index (WAI) texture properties, and microstructure were determined. Increasing the particle size decreased the SME input. Extrudates produced with corn meal of higher particle sizes expanded more than extrudates produced with smaller particle sizes. For all treatments there was no peak viscosity at 95 °C. But expanded corn meal extrudate from the 180 μm fraction showed a discontinuous gel matrix phase. Increasing corn meal particle size decreased WAI values. The mechanical resistance of the extrudates from the smallest particle size was significantly higher (p < 0.05) than that of the largest particle size. The microstructure of raw corn meal revealed large fractured particles with small rounded particles adhering to the surface.  相似文献

Probing the sheet : The network of hydrogen bonds formed in the outer β sheet of the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR; see figure) is fairly robust and tolerates single amide‐to‐ester mutations throughout. However, eliminating two proximal hydrogen bonds completely destroys receptor function; this adds further support to gating models that ascribe important roles to these β strands of the nAChR extracellular domain.

The profiles of volatile chemicals emitted by Vicia faba plants damaged by Lygus rugulipennis feeding, and by feeding plus oviposition, were shown to be quantitatively different from those released by undamaged plants. Samples of volatile chemicals collected from healthy plants, plants damaged by males as a consequence of feeding, plants damaged by females as a consequence of feeding and oviposition, plants damaged by feeding with mated males still present, and plants damaged by feeding and oviposition with gravid females still present, showed significant differences in the emission of hexyl acetate, (Z)-β-ocimene, (E)-β-ocimene, (E)-β-caryophyllene, and methyl salicylate. In particular, treatments with mated females present on plants had a significant increase in emission levels of the above compounds, possibly due to eggs laid within plant tissues or active feeding, compared with undamaged plants and plants damaged by males feeding, with or without insects still present. Furthermore, the pheromonal blend released by mated L. rugulipennis females, mainly comprising hexyl butyrate, (E)-2-hexenyl butyrate, and (E)-4-oxo-2-hexenal, was enhanced when females were active on broad bean plants, whereas such an increase was not observed in males. Both sexes gave electroantennogram responses to green leaf volatiles from undamaged plants and to methyl salicylate and (E)-β-caryophyllene emitted by Lygus-damaged plants, suggesting that these compounds may be involved in colonization of host plants by L. rugulipennis. In addition, mated males and females were responsive to hexyl butyrate, (E)-2-hexenyl butyrate, and (E)-4-oxo-2-hexenal released by mated females on V. faba, indicating that these substances could have a dual function as a possible aggregation pheromone in female–female communication, and as a sex pheromone in female–male communication. Sulfamethoxazole contamination of a deep phreatic aquifer   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Groundwater samples were obtained from the water table region of a phreatic aquifer (unsaturated zone depth up to 28 m) under land irrigated with wastewater effluents for about 5 decades and a relatively deep pumping well (109 m), used as a drinking water source till 2007, located downstream (1300 m) of wastewater effluent and sludge infiltration facilities. Sulfamethoxazole (SMX) concentrations in secondary effluents varied between 90 and 150 ng/L. SMX was extracted using SPE and was analyzed by HPLC-MS/MS. SMX (maximum concentration of 37 ng/L) was detected in the water table region, in two monitoring wells, after an unsaturated zone transport period of about 16 years. The maximum SMX concentration detected in the pumping well was of 20 ng/L. These results question wastewater effluent disposal strategies including the suitability of irrigation with effluents on the replenishment area of an aquifer supplying drinking water.  相似文献

A reproducible mixed continuous bacterial population has been cultured in the chemostat at a low dilution rate. Four species originally isolated from activated sludge were used to provide an inoculum. The influence of cadmium, chromium, copper and lead as shock doses has been examined at concentrations of 50 mg l−1 and the response of the population was found to vary for each metal. The most toxic metal was copper followed by cadmium, lead and chromium. Continuous doses of chromium and lead have been studied, the latter over a range of concentrations. It appears that concentrations of lead as low as 5 mg l−1 cause modifications in the individual population sizes. Some of the species studied were found to be more resistant to heavy metal toxicity than others.  相似文献

Weak phase separation and vulnerable linking groups between aromatic units are common setbacks of sulfonated aromatic proton exchange membranes (PEMs) from durability point of view. In this study, sulfonated poly(ether ether ketone) (SPEEK) membranes were exposed to Fenton's solution for a specific time, ranging from 10 to 60 minutes. Chemical structure and morphology evolution, decay in mechanical and thermal stability, and H2 permeability of SPEEK membranes were evaluated during the chemical degradation. Less-entangled polymeric chains with lower average molecular weight of degraded SPEEK samples diminished mechanical rigidity. In addition, reduction of aromatic rings in each repeat unit led to higher thermal decomposition rate. Furthermore, randomly distributed micro-defects in the SPEEK morphology and an increase in water sorption can reduce the fatigue strength of membranes in the wet-dry cycles. Eventually, hydrogen cross-over rate was gradually increased, and henceforth, accelerated destructive radical formation and degradation can be predicted.  相似文献

Females of the potato aphid Macrosiphum euphorbiae exhibit typical calling behavior, with virgin female oviparae raising their back legs off the substrate to release sex pheromone from glands on the tibia. Airborne collections from calling oviparae were analyzed by GC and GC-MS to determine if, like the majority of aphids examined to date, they produced (1R,4aS,7S,7aR)-nepetalactol (1) and (4aS,7S,7aR)-nepetalactone (2). Both components were present and produced in ratios that varied with age from 4:1 to 2:1. The relative stereochemical configurations of these components were determined by GC-coinjection of the aphid-derived sample with synthetic standards on both HP-1 and DB-Wax GC columns. The absolute stereochemical configuration of the nepetalactol (determined from approximately 15 microg of material in an air entrainment sample) was determined as (1R,4aS,7S,7aR)-1 by derivatization of the aphid sample with (S)-(+)-alpha-methoxy-alpha-(trifluoromethyl)phenylacetyl chloride (Mosher's acid chloride) to generate a diastereoisomer that was compared to synthetic samples by NMR spectroscopy and GC. In bioassays in the wind tunnel, M. euphorbiae males responded to potato plants with oviparae but not to unattacked plants or those infested with parthenogenetically reproducing apterae. In no-choice laboratory bioassays, the same level of male response was observed to virgins and to the 3:1-5:1 synthetic blends of nepetalactol (1):nepetalactone (2). However, the time taken to reach the source was significantly less to virgin females than to the synthetic pheromone blends. In all cases, males walked rather than flew to the source. Males showed lower responses to a 1:1 synthetic mixture and did not respond to either of the components when presented alone. Under field conditions, few M. euphorbiae males were captured in traps baited with different ratios of the synthetic pheromone. Possible reasons for the different responses under laboratory and field conditions are discussed.  相似文献

Epichloë fungi (Ascomycota) live within aboveground tissues of grasses and can have important implications for natural and managed ecosystems through production of alkaloids. Nonetheless, vertebrate herbivores may possess traits, like oral secretions, that mitigate effects of alkaloids. We tested if sheep saliva mitigates effects of Epichloë alkaloids on a beetle pest of perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.) in a New Zealand pasture setting. Plants with one of several fungal isolates were clipped with scissors, grazed by sheep, or clipped with sheep saliva applied to cut ends of stems. We then assessed feeding damage by Argentine stem weevils on blade segments collected from experimental plants. We found that clipping plants induced synthesis of an alkaloid that reduces feeding by beetles and that sheep saliva mitigates this effect. Unexpectedly, the alkaloid (perloline) that explains variation in beetle feeding is one produced not by the endophyte, but rather by the plant. Yet, these effects depended upon fungal isolate. Such indirect, complex interactions may be much more common in both managed and natural grassland systems than typically thought and could have implications for managing grazing systems.  相似文献

In this study, a penalized mixture of the Gaussian process regression model was proposed for the prediction of melt index (MI) in industrial polymer production. MI plays an important role in detecting the grade of a product. It is difficult to measure directly and is characterized by a large number of variables and multigrades. Because of multigrade products, in the development of soft sensors for MI prediction, it is not valid to assume unimodal Gaussian distribution of the data. To this end, the proposed method is capable of the simultaneous identification of significant variables and determination of important clusters of multigrade products. It is based on the shrinkage methods that have been shown to provide stable models that are more interpretable. Case studies are presented to show the features of the proposed method and its applicability to industrial MI prediction. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym.
