Summary: The fast photopolymerization of different multifunctional acrylates was analyzed by means of photorheology. The materials studied included a penta/hexaacrylate monomer and two different acrylated hyperbranched polymers. The sensitivity of the commercial rheometer was improved several‐fold, by a combination of an adaptive filter algorithm and improved data treatment, using powerful oversampling acquisition hardware. The novel set‐up was capable of monitoring up to a five orders of magnitude increase in shear modulus within short experiment timescales (about 10 s). The improvement in sensitivity and acquisition rate enabled the induction time, gelation, and vitrification of the multifunctional acrylates to be determined. In addition, the influence of UV intensity on stiffness build‐up within these materials was studied. In the case of the penta/hexaacrylate system, gelation and vitrification were detected as distinct events, in contrast to the second‐generation hyperbranched polyester, for which vitrification could not be identified. These findings are related to the difference in the glass transition temperature of the cured networks.

In a spin: Spin-labeled oligonucleotides produced by click chemistry can be studied by EPR, by using a DEER sequence. This was used to test a complex triple-labeling strategy with damaged DNA. Extensive and accurate analysis of DNA structure and enzymatic repair processes were performed after digestion by EndoIV. Modified DNA structures and DNA-protein interactions can now be readily studied.  相似文献

This paper presents an experimental investigation on influence of liquid physical properties and channel diameter on gas–liquid flow patterns in horizontal circular microchannels with inner diameters of 302, 496 and 916 μm. Several liquids with different physical properties, i.e. water, ethanol, three sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) solutions (0.0464%, 0.1262%, 0.2446% CMC) and two sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) solutions (0.0608%, 0.2610% SDS) are chosen as working fluid and nitrogen as working gas. By using a high-speed photography system, flow patterns such as bubbly flow, slug and unstable slug flow, churn flow, slug-annular and annular flow are observed and identified on the flow regime maps. The results show that the liquid physical properties (viscosity and surface tension) and channel diameter affect the flow pattern transitions remarkably. Comparison with existing models in literature implies that these transitions cannot be well predicted. As a result, an effort is put into the proposition of a new empirical model taking the effects of channel size and liquid physical properties into account.  相似文献

The objective of the present study was to determine the mechanisms by which dietary proteins interact with dietary lipids in the regulation of triglyceridemia in rats. Male Sprague-Dawley rats (n=56) were subjected to 28-d experimental diets containing different combinations of proteins (20% w/w) and lipid sources (14% w/w): (i) casein-menhaden oil, (ii) casein-beef tallow, (iii) soy protein-menhaden oil, and (iv) soy protein-beef tallow. Significant protein-lipid interactions were observed on triglyceridemia and hepatic cholesterol in fasted rats. The combination of casein and beef tallow was associated with high plasma TG and hepatic cholesterol concentrations, which were reduced by substitution either of soy for casein or of menhaden oil for beef tallow. Therefore, triglyceridemia and liver cholesterol remained low with soy protein feeding, independently of the lipid source, as well as with menhaden oil feeding, regardless of the protein source. The menhaden oil diets reduced plasma cholesterol, hepatic TG, and TG secretion compared with beef tallow diets independently of the dietary protein source. Modifying the source of dietary proteins and lipids had no effect on post-heparin plasma lipoprotein lipase activity. These results demonstrate that soy protein can lower rat triglyceridemia relative to casein when associated with beef tallow consumption, whereas menhaden oil can attenuate hypertriglyceridemia when rats are fed casein. The data further suggest that part of the hypotriglyceridemic effect of soy protein in the rat may be mediated by reduced hepatic lipid synthesis, as is the case for menhaden oil.  相似文献

The European Federation for Medicinal Chemistry (EFMC) created the Young Scientists Network (YSN) to support early-career medicinal chemists and chemical biologists. By doing this, it addressed the rapid changes taking place in the scientific community and in our society, such as the rise of social media, the evolution of the gender balance in the scientific population, and educational needs. Creating the YSN was also a way to ensure that the next generation of scientists would contribute to shaping EFMC's strategy, while recognizing and addressing their needs. The YSN was set up as a very dynamic concept, and has now developed to the point where its impact is evident. The activities it promotes complement EFMC's community support and scientific opportunities, rejuvenating the Federation and preparing it for the future. It also provides opportunities for many brilliant young scientists, who do not hesitate to invest time and energy in supporting our community and shaping their own future.  相似文献

The potential use of stem cell-based therapies for the repair and regeneration of various tissues and organs is a major goal in repair medicine. Stem cells are classified by their potential to differentiate into functional cells. Compared with other sources, adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) have the advantage of being abundant and easy to obtain. ADSCs are considered to be tools for replacing, repairing, and regenerating dead or damaged cells. The capacity of ADSCs to maintain their properties depends on the balance of complex signals in their microenvironment. Their properties and the associated outcomes are in part regulated by reactive oxygen species, which mediate the oxidation-reduction state of cells as a secondary messenger. ADSC therapy has demonstrated beneficial effects, suggesting that secreted factors may provide protection. There is evidence that ADSCs secrete a number of cytokines, growth factors, and antioxidant factors into their microenvironment, thus regulating intracellular signaling pathways in neighboring cells. In this review, we introduce the roles of ADSCs in the protection of cells by modulating inflammation and immunity, and we develop their potential therapeutic properties.  相似文献

Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is an inflammatory disease associated with marked changes in the cellular composition of the aortic wall. This study aims to identify microRNA (miRNA) expression in aneurysmal inflammatory cells isolated by laser microdissection from human tissue samples. The distribution of inflammatory cells (neutrophils, B and T lymphocytes, mast cells) was evaluated in human AAA biopsies. We observed in half of the samples that adventitial tertiary lymphoid organs (ATLOs) with a thickness from 0.5 to 2 mm were located exclusively in the adventitia. Out of the 850 miRNA that were screened by microarray in isolated ATLOs (n = 2), 164 miRNAs were detected in ATLOs. The three miRNAs (miR-15a-3p, miR-30a-5p and miR-489-3p) with the highest expression levels were chosen and their expression quantified by RT-PCR in isolated ATLOs (n = 4), M1 (n = 2) and M2 macrophages (n = 2) and entire aneurysmal biopsies (n = 3). Except for the miR-30a-5p, a similar modulation was found in ATLOs and the two subtypes of macrophages. The modulated miRNAs were then evaluated in the plasma of AAA patients for their potential as AAA biomarkers. Our data emphasize the potential of miR-15a-3p and miR-30a-5p as biomarkers of AAA but also as triggers of ATLO evolution. Further investigations will be required to evaluate their targets in order to better understand AAA pathophysiology.  相似文献

Binary blends of poly(lactic acid) (PLA) and poly(propylene carbonate) (PPC) were found to display a peculiar crystallization kinetics. The two biodegradable polymers were blended by melt mixing, to obtain binary blends at various compositions. Temperature‐modulated calorimetry and dynamic‐mechanical analysis indicated that the blend components are partially miscible, and display two separate glass transitions, at temperatures intermediate to those of the plain polymers. Electron microscopy analysis disclosed the morphology of PLA/PPC blends, made of PPC‐rich particles finely dispersed within the PLA‐rich matrix. The possible establishment of interactions between the functional groups of the two polymers upon melt mixing has been hypothesized as the reason for partial miscibility and compatibility of the two biodegradable polymers. The PLA/PPC blends display good mechanical properties, with enhanced performance at rupture compared with plain PLA. Most importantly, the addition of PPC affects also the crystallization kinetics of PLA, since the more mobile PPC chains favor diffusion of the stiffer PLA chain segments towards the growing crystals, which fastens the spherulite growth rate of PLA. Such positive influence of an amorphous polymer on crystal growth rate has been demonstrated here for the first time in blends that display phase‐separation in the melt. POLYM. ENG.
