The wolf Canis lupus is a major terrestrial predator in eastern Europe and, as a top carnivore, may be exposed to high concentrations of contaminants that are readily transferred through the food chain. Despite this, there are few published data on pollutant and pesticide levels in wolves. This study utilised tissues from animals legally killed by hunters for other reasons (animals were not killed for the purposes of this study) to carry out the only detailed investigation of contaminants in wolves in Europe and the first in animals from Eastern Europe. The livers of 58 wolves from the Tver and Smoliensk regions of northwest Russia (54°N 31°E to 57°N 35°E) were analysed for seven organochlorine pesticides, 24 PCB congeners, Aroclor 1254-matched summed PCBs (ΣPCBs), total mercury, cadmium and lead. Cadmium, most of the organochlorine pesticides and many PCB congeners were not detectable in any of the wolves. Hexachlorobenzene, alpha-HCH, pp′DDE, PCB congeners 118, 138, 149 and 156 and lead were detected in up to 6% of livers. Dieldrin, PCB congeners 153, 170 and 180, ΣPCBs and mercury were detected more frequently. Contaminant levels were generally low; maximum wet weight concentrations of any of the organochlorine pesticides, ΣPCBs and mercury were less than 0.1, 1 and 0.25 μg g−1, respectively. PCB congeners 153, 170 and 180 accounted for 41% of the ΣPCBs. Dieldrin, ΣPCBs and mercury concentrations did not vary significantly between males and females nor between adult and juvenile (<12 months old) wolves apart from the ΣPCB concentration, which was on average five times higher in adults than juveniles. Liver residues were generally below the level normally associated with adverse effects except for lead levels which exceeded the critical 5 μg g−1 dry wt. concentration in three of the 58 animals examined.  相似文献

This study examines the shear strength behavior of the high-temperature Zn–20 wt% Sn, Zn–30 wt% Sn, and Zn–40 wt% Sn solders in the temperature range of 298–425 K. The results showed that increasing the Sn content of the alloys decreases both shear yield stress (SYS) and ultimate shear strength (USS) at all test temperatures. This can be attributed to the higher volume fraction of the softer β-Sn matrix and the eutectic α-Zn + β-Sn structure, which replaces the colonies of the harder α-Zn phase in the microstructure. The high shear strength of these high temperature solder alloys makes them suitable for application in harsh environments.  相似文献

The performance of Mg–1Ca alloy, a biodegradable metallic material, may be improved by hot working in order that it may be of use in bone implant applications. In this study, Mg–1Ca cast alloy was preheated to different temperatures before undergoing forging process with various forging speeds. Macro- and microstructure of the samples were examined by stereo and scanning electron microscopes (SEM) equipped with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), respectively. To determine the mechanical properties of the alloy, hardness value and plastic deformation ability of the samples were measured. To investigate the corrosion behaviour of the alloy, immersion and electrochemical tests were performed on the samples in simulated body fluid and the corrosion products were characterized by SEM/EDS. The results showed that increasing forging temperature decreased grain size led to improved hardness value and plastic deformation ability of the alloy, whereas no significant effect was observed by changing forging speed. Moreover, forging at higher temperatures led to an increase in the amount of Mg2Ca phase at grain boundaries resulted in higher corrosion rates. It can be concluded that although forging process improved the mechanical properties of the alloy, it does not satisfy the corrosion resistance criteria required for bone healing.  相似文献

This paper has proposed an effective method to determine the minimum factor of safety (FS) and associated critical failure surface in slope stability analysis. The search for the minimum FS based on limit equilibrium methods is a complex optimization problem as the objective function is non-smooth and non-convex. Recently, particle swarm optimization (PSO) as a meta-heuristic optimization algorithm has been developed with success in treating various types of problems. In the current study, a new approach of PSO is proposed to calculate the safety factor of earth slopes. The safety factors of the general slip surfaces are calculated using Spencer method of slices, and each new slip surface is randomly generated by straight line technique. The reliability and efficiency of the proposed algorithm are examined by considering a number of published cases. The results indicate that the new method can predict a more critical failure mechanism with a lower FS and can outperform the other methods in the literature as well as standard PSO. Finally, the proposed method will be validated by considering an existing slope failure in Ulu Klang, Malaysia.  相似文献

The most significant complication of end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) is cardiovascular disease, mainly coronary artery disease (CAD). Although the effective treatment of CAD is an important prognostic factor, whether percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) or coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) is better for treating CAD in this group of patients is still controversial. We searched Pubmed/Medline, Web of Science, Embase, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials articles that compared the outcomes of CABG versus PCI in patients with ESKD requiring dialysis. A total of 10 observational studies with 39,666 patients were included. Our analysis showed that when compared to PCI, CABG had lower risk of need for repeat revascularization (relative risk [RR] = 2.25, 95% confidence interval [CI] 2.1–2.42, p < 0.00001) and cardiovascular death (RR = 1.19, 95% CI 1.14–1.23, p < 0.00001) and higher risk for short-term mortality (RR = 0.43, 95% CI 0.38–0.48, p < 0.00001). There was no statistically significant difference between the PCI and CABG groups in the risk for late mortality (RR = 1.05, 95% CI 0.97–1.14, p = 0.25), myocardial infarction (RR = 1.05, 95% CI 0.46–2.36, p = 0.91) or stroke (RR = 1.02, 95% CI 0.64–1.61, p = 0.95). This meta-analysis showed that in ESKD patients requiring dialysis, CABG was superior to PCI in regard to cardiovascular death and need for repeat revascularization and inferior to PCI in regard to short term mortality. However, this meta-analysis has limitations and needs confirmation with large randomized controlled trials.  相似文献

We consider probability density functions where some of the parameters are uncertain. We model these uncertainties using fuzzy numbers producing fuzzy probability density functions. In particular, we look at the fuzzy normal, fuzzy uniform, and the fuzzy negative exponential and show how to use them to compute fuzzy probabilities. We also use the fuzzy normal to approximate the fuzzy binomial. Our application is to inventory control (the economic order quantity model) where demand is given by a fuzzy normal probability density.  相似文献

Single crystal high resistivity (11,000 ohm-cm) boron doped silicon was found to exhibit lowest absorption loss at room temperature (25 C) in the entire millimeter wave region. At 140 GHz it's loss tangent value is as low as 40 microradians. The study of dielectric properties of silicon as a function of resistivity reveals that the low frequency free carrier absorption present in all silicon (and other semiconductors) vanishes with increasing resistivity. It is then possible to use such a silicon in substrate applications in microwave integrated circuitry. The unique broadband dispersive Fourier transform spectroscopic technique was utilized for these measurement.  相似文献

The non-enzymatic metabolites of prostacyclin (PGI2) and thromboxane A2 (TXA2), 6-keto-prostaglandin F1alpha (6-keto-PGF1alpha) and thromboxane B2 (TXB2), and their 2,3-dinor metabolites, 2,3-dinor-6-keto-PGF1alpha and 2,3-dinor-TXB2, were measured in early morning urine samples in 24 in vitro fertilization (IVF) cycles in 24 women and in 27 women who became pregnant after IVF and embryo transfer (ET). The sum of the non-enzymatic metabolites and their 2,3-dinor metabolites was considered to be a reflection of total PGI2 and total TXA2 production in vivo. Both the ratio of 'total' PGI2/'total' TXA2 and the ratio of the 2,3-dinor metabolites were calculated. TXB2 concentrations showed virtually no change and the ratios of the non-enzymatic metabolites of PGI2 and TXA2 versus their 2,3-dinor metabolites remained relatively constant. As a consequence, the ratio of 2,3-dinor-6-keto-PGF1alpha/2,3-dinor-TXB2 was a close reflection of the ratio of 'total' PGI2/'total' TXA2, although the latter ratio was significantly higher all the time. We conclude that for comparative studies on the balance between PGI2 and TXA2 in IVF cycles and during gestation, the determination of the 2,3-dinor metabolites alone can replace the measurement of all four metabolites.  相似文献

New lines shapes, not predicted by Stark broadening, are reported for 1s→2p (m=?1, 0) for a single hydrogenlike donor in InP. Stark-effect inhomogeneous broadening is suppressed by a magnetic field in GaAs according to both theory and experiment but the characteristic low frequency tail is enhanced by the high magnetic field for both 1s→2p (m=?1, 0) in InP.  相似文献
