We describe a compact fiber-optic setup for three-dimensional topometry. The measuring principle is based on low-coherence interferometry in combination with a confocal microscope. Integrating an optical arrangement based on compact disk optics together with fiber optics into one sensor yields a compact unit. The sensor has a numerical aperture of 0.45 and is suitable for measuring large surface slopes with high spatial resolution. Further, a depth measuring range of more than 1 mm can be achieved. The capabilities of our setup for three-dimensional measurements are demonstrated.  相似文献

The beam quality of a radial laser array, quantified in terms of the M(2) propagation constant, is determined as a function of array element configuration. A lower bound on array M(2) is estimated for both phase-locked and nonphase-locked conditions. It is shown that, to achieve near-unity M(2) array, either aperture filling or spatial filtering is required in addition to phase locking. An aperture-filling method suitable for radial arrays of CO(2) slab lasers is presented.  相似文献

Because of the high absorption of near-infrared laser radiation in biological tissue, erbium lasers and holmium lasers emitting at 3 and 2 μm, respectively, have been proven to have optimal qualities for cutting or welding and coagulating tissue. To combine the advantages of both wavelengths, we realized a multiwavelength laser system by simultaneously guiding erbium and holmium laser radiation by means of a single zirconium fluoride (ZrF(4)) fiber. Laser-induced channel formation in water and poly(acrylamide) gel was investigated by the use of a time-resolved flash-photography setup, while pressure transients were recorded simultaneously with a needle hydrophone. The shapes and depths of vapor channels produced in water and in a submerged gel after single erbium and after combination erbium-holmium radiation delivered by means of a 400-μm ZrF(4) fiber were measured. Transmission measurements were performed to determine the amount of pulse energy available for tissue ablation. The effects of laser wavelength and the delay time between pulses of different wavelengths on the photomechanical and photothermal responses of meniscal tissue were evaluated in vitro by the use of histology. It was observed that the use of a short (200-μs, 100-mJ) holmium laser pulse as a prepulse to generate a vapor bubble through which the ablating erbium laser pulse can be transmitted (delay time, 100 μs) increases the cutting depth in meniscus from 450 to 1120 μm as compared with the depth following a single erbium pulse. The results indicate that a combination of erbium and holmium laser radiation precisely and efficiently cuts tissue under water with 20-50-μm collateral tissue damage.  相似文献

The index inhomogeneity and the microstructure of ZrO(2) films prepared by Ar-ion-assisted deposition are investigated. The results show that as the Ar-ion momentum transferred to the growing film increases, the average refractive index increases, the vacuum-to-air spectral shift becomes almost zero, the sign of relative inhomogeneity transits from negative to positive, and the void fraction of the top layer next to air becomes smaller than that of the bottom one. These optical properties result from the improved packing density and denser outer region next to air. The Ar-ion bombardment also induces the changes in microstructure of ZrO(2) films, such as the preferential (111) orientation of cubic phase, increase in compressive stress, and reduction of surface roughness.  相似文献

The analysis of large dynamic networks poses a challenge in many fields, ranging from large bot-nets to social networks. As dynamic networks exhibit different characteristics, e.g., being of sparse or dense structure, or having a continuous or discrete time line, a variety of visualization techniques have been specifically designed to handle these different aspects of network structure and time. This wide range of existing techniques is well justified, as rarely a single visualization is suitable to cover the entire visual analysis. Instead, visual representations are often switched in the course of the exploration of dynamic graphs as the focus of analysis shifts between the temporal and the structural aspects of the data. To support such a switching in a seamless and intuitive manner, we introduce the concept of in situ visualization--a novel strategy that tightly integrates existing visualization techniques for dynamic networks. It does so by allowing the user to interactively select in a base visualization a region for which a different visualization technique is then applied and embedded in the selection made. This permits to change the way a locally selected group of data items, such as nodes or time points, are shown--right in the place where they are positioned, thus supporting the user's overall mental map. Using this approach, a user can switch seamlessly between different visual representations to adapt a region of a base visualization to the specifics of the data within it or to the current analysis focus. This paper presents and discusses the in situ visualization strategy and its implications for dynamic graph visualization. Furthermore, it illustrates its usefulness by employing it for the visual exploration of dynamic networks from two different fields: model versioning and wireless mesh networks.  相似文献

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is currently one of the principal causes of end stage renal disease (ESRD). Approximately 40% of all diabetic patients eventually develop diabetic nephropathy (DN). The complexity of diabetes and its complications require a broad-based, unbiased, scientific approach, such as proteomics, in order to understand the progression of DN. Proteomic techniques have been applied extensively to explore the complexity of the mechanisms associated with DN, and to identify novel biomarkers and therapeutic targets. This review provides insights into how proteomics can be applied to DN, and how experimental data can be linked to clinical applications. In addition, recent proteome studies of DN are summarized. The rapid rate of development of the relevant technologies, along with the combination of classic physiological and biochemical techniques with proteomics will facilitate new discoveries.  相似文献

A holographic beam splitter has been integrated into a picosecond four-wave mixing (FWM) scheme. This modification significantly simplified the procedure of dynamic grating recording, thus making the FWM technique an easy-to-use tool for the holographic characterization of wide band gap materials. The novel FWM scheme was applied for characterization of hydride vapor phase epitaxy-grown undoped GaN layers of different thickness. It allowed the determination of carrier lifetime, diffusion coefficient, and carrier diffusion length by optical means, as well as the study of carrier recombination peculiarities with respect to dislocation and excess carrier density.  相似文献

This study examined the relationship between shift work-specific locus of control (SH-LOC), active choice of work schedule and health outcomes, personal initiatives and coping behaviours in 1611 Danish Health Service shift workers. The 20-item SH-LOC scale was administered as part of a battery of measures. Multivariate analysis of covariance (controlling for age, workplace experience and weekly work hours) tested for differential responses to shift working and coping strategies. Interactive effects of internality and type of work rota were examined. Higher internality was linked to better tolerance to shift work. This did not appear to be a result of greater personal action in higher internals. The importance of control as a potential moderating factor to shift work exposure and the possible use of this measure in the process of shift worker monitoring is highlighted.  相似文献
