IrBurst is a session/presentation layer protocol dedicated for high speed large volume information transfer over IrDA links.
The protocol is developed by IrDA in order to complement the existing protocol OBEX which is best suited for small files.
This paper presents a mathematical model for IrBurst over the IrDA protocol stacks taking into account the presence of bit
errors and multiple simultaneously applications. The performance of IrBurst is examined considering TinyTP buffer sizes and
the number of IrBurst application connections as parameters. The contribution of this work is to develop a mathematical model
for IrBurst, investigate the compatibility of IrBurst to low layer protocols, as well as providing suitable design guidelines
for IrDA devices for high performance of IrBurst.

Design of an enhanced access point to optimize TCP performance in Wi-Fi hotspot networks 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In the last years, the number of Wi-Fi hotspots at public venues has undergone a substantial growth, promoting the WLAN technologies
as the ubiquitous solution to provide high-speed wireless connectivity in public areas. However, the adoption of a random
access CSMA-based paradigm for the 802.11 MAC protocol makes difficult to ensure high throughput and a fair allocation of
radio resources in 802.11-based WLANs. In this paper we evaluate extensively via simulations the interaction between the flow
control mechanisms implemented at the TCP layer and the contention avoidance techniques used at the 802.11 MAC layer. We conducted
our study considering initially M wireless stations performing downloads from the Internet. From our results, we observed that the TCP downlink throughput
is not limited by the collision events, but by the inability of the MAC protocol to assign a higher chance of accessing the
channel to the base station. We propose a simple and easy to implement modification of the base station’s behavior with the
purpose of increasing the TCP throughput reducing useless MAC protocol overheads. With our scheme, the base station is allowed
to transmit periodically bursts of data frames towards the mobile hosts. We design a resource allocation protocol aimed at
maximizing the success probability of the uplink transmissions by dynamically adapting the burst length to the collision probability
estimated by the base station. By its design, our scheme is also beneficial to achieve a fairer allocation of the channel
bandwidth among the downlink and uplink flows, and among TCP and UDP flows. Simulation results confirm both the improvement
in the TCP downlink throughput and the reduction of system unfairness. 相似文献

We introduce an efficient protocol for end-to-end handoff management in heterogeneous wireless IP-based networks. The protocol
is based on the stream control transmission protocol (SCTP), and employs a soft-handoff mechanism that uses end-to-end semantics
for signaling handoffs and for transmitting control messages. The design goal of this protocol is twofold—first, to reduce
the home registration delay, and, second, to eliminate the tunnelling cost which exists in current proposals, such as Mobile
IP and its derivatives. Furthermore, we propose successive enhancements to the initial mobility management framework for achieving
better scalability. We present strong analytical and simulation-based results that show performance improvements over existing
approaches.

Talking to Machines: Introducing Robot Perception to Resolve Speech Recognition Uncertainties 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1

The use of spontaneous speech as a form of communication between humans and robots is a potential solution for more efficient
human-robot interactions. Accuracy is one of the main problems associated with the automatic speech recognition (ASR) component
of human-robot interactive systems. The standard ASR approach is
based on statistical methods applied to phoneme domains. However, some problems cannot be solved with the rule-based approaches
used so far; therefore, alternative strategies could be the solution. The aim of this paper is to investigate some aspects
related to the use of a robot's perceptive abilities to increase the robustness of ASR
components. The robot evaluative abilities are used to incrementally build knowledge that will be used during the
recognition phase. This paper covers aspects concerning the use of time-warping algorithms to improve the speech recognition
performance. In particular, aspects related to the accuracy and efficiency of this approach when applied to whole-sentence
speech signals are discussed. 相似文献

As an effective technique for combating multipath fading and for high data rate transmission over wireless channels, orthogonal
frequ- ency division multiplexing (OFDM) is extensively used in wireless local area network (WLAN) systems to support high-performance
bandwidth- efficient multimedia services. In this paper, a robust channel estimation scheme is proposed for the OFDM-based
WLAN systems with imperfect synchronization. The frame structure information, the preamble information, the pilot information
are efficiently utilized in the proposed channel estimation scheme. Simulation results are used to illustrate the performance
of the proposed scheme. 相似文献
