Acid-basic materials are often used to catalyse organic reactions. Hydroxyapatite is acidic and hydrotalcite presents basic
properties. The association of both compounds in a single material should present a rather unique catalytic behavior. Three
preparations of hydroxyapatite impregnated with hydrotalcite are presented. The effect of microwave irradiation, at different
preparation levels, is discussed. A homogeneous distribution of hydrotalcite on hydroxyapatite surface is obtained when hydrotalcite
is precipitated over a previously microwave irradiated hydroxyapatite. Instead, if the hydrotalcite mixture is incorporated
to the hydroxyapatite precursor gel and the resulting mixture microwave irradiated, hydrotalcite is preferentially deposited
in the hydroxyapatite interparticle spaces. When both hydroxyapatite and hydrotalcite solutions are irradiated, mixed and

The in vitro cumulative gas production technique can be used to assess microbial activity of a complex community, in relation to fermentation of a particular energy source. Therefore, in combination with an in vivo study to examine the effects of two different diets for weaning piglets, microbial activities of faeces were compared from animals on the two different diets. The two diets were: CHO diet [containing added fermentable carbohydrates, including sugarbeet pulp (SBP) and wheat starch (WST)], and control diet without any added fermentable carbohydrates. Neither diet contained antibiotics or extra added copper. Twenty‐four piglets were selected from 12 litters (two per litter), weaned at 4 weeks of age (neither creep feeding nor any antibiotic treatment before and during the study), and introduced to one of the two diets. After 9 days on the diet, faecal samples were collected from selected animals, and tested for their activity in terms of gas production kinetics, and end‐products such as volatile fatty acids, ammonia and dry matter disappearance of the two test substrates SBP and WST. The bacterial diversity was also analysed before and after in vitro fermentation using denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis analysis of amplified 16S rRNA genes. There were differences both in kinetics and end‐products of the substrates. More interestingly, significant differences were detected between inocula, although mainly in terms of fermentation kinetics of the two substrates. With the CHO inoculum, SBP was fermented faster than with the control, while this effect was reversed for WST. Significantly higher diversity, as measured by DGGE fingerprint analysis, was detected in the microbial community enrichment on SBP as compared with WST at the end of fermentation. The difference between the kinetics of SBP compared with WST fermentation by faecal microbiota from the CHO diet fed piglets suggests better adaptation to SBP fermentation than to WST fermentation. The WST fermentation was more unexpected, given that a significant amount of starch is known to be fermentable by the small intestinal microbiota. It was concluded that the microbial community composition and activity in the GIT may be changed in response to diet, and that this change can be detected in vitro. Physicochemical processes, such as the Lo-cat and Amine-Claus process, are commonly used to remove hydrogen sulfide from hydrocarbon gas streams such as landfill gas, natural gas, and synthesis gas. Biodesulfurization offers environmental advantages, but still requires optimization and more insight in the reaction pathways and kinetics. We carried out experiments with gas lift bioreactors inoculated with haloalkaliphilic sulfide-oxidizing bacteria. At oxygen-limiting levels, that is, below an O(2)/H(2)S mole ratio of 1, sulfide was oxidized to elemental sulfur and sulfate. We propose that the bacteria reduce NAD(+) without direct transfer of electrons to oxygen and that this is most likely the main route for oxidizing sulfide to elemental sulfur which is subsequently oxidized to sulfate in oxygen-limited bioreactors. We call this pathway the limited oxygen route (LOR). Biomass growth under these conditions is significantly lower than at higher oxygen levels. These findings emphasize the importance of accurate process control. This work also identifies a need for studies exploring similar pathways in other sulfide oxidizers such as Thiobacillus bacteria. 相似文献

Ethanol steam reforming with pure ethanol and commercial bioethanol (S/C = 3) was carried out inside the housing of the exhaust gas pipe of a gasoline internal combustion engine (ICE) by using exhaust heat (610–620 °C). Various catalytic honeycombs loaded with potassium-promoted cobalt hydrotalcite and with ceria-based rhodium–palladium catalysts were tested under different reactant loads. The hydrogen yield obtained over the cobalt-based catalytic honeycomb at low load (F/W < 25 mLliq·gcat?1·h?1, GHSV = 4·102 h?1) was remarkably high, whereas that obtained over the noble metal-based catalytic honeycombs was much superior at high loads (F/W = 25–150 mLliq·gcat?1·h?1, GHSV = 4·102–2.4·103 h?1). At higher reactant loads the overall hydrogen production was limited by heat transfer from the exhaust heat to the reformer inside the housing of the exhaust gas pipe of the ICE. Extensive carbon deposition occurred over the cobalt-based honeycomb, making its use impractical. In contrast, stability runs (>200 h) at high load (F/W = 150 mLliq·gcat?1·h?1, GHSV = 2.4·103 h?1) showed that promotion of the ceria-supported noble metal catalyst with alumina and zirconia is a key element for practical application using commercial bioethanol. HRTEM analysis of post mortem honeycombs loaded with RhPd/Ce0.5Zr0.5O2–Al2O3 showed no carbon formation and no metal agglomeration. 相似文献

The performance of an MRAC design can be improved by using the model-updating concept, which places the state of the system into the reference model at regular time intervals. This paper discusses criteria for determining this updating and a proof is given to show that model updating does not influence the stability properties of an MRAC design. Experiments were performed using a new hollow fiber hemofilter. Ultrafiltration rates and whole blood urea clearances were measured in post-dilution hemofiltration. High ultrafiltration rates were obtained with the new hemofilter. No adverse effects were detected despite filtration fractions above 45%. This paper investigates the use of approximation of state functions in measurement-based transistor models. This is especially important when these models are used in third-order intermodulation distortion simulations since the dynamical spline interpolation that is typically used has possible large discontinuities in its third-order derivative. We, therefore, propose a new representation of the state functions in our model and offer a comparison between measurement and simulation to prove the validity of our approach.
