Two empirical judgment phenomena appear to contradict each other. In the revision-of-opinion literature, subjective probability (SP) judgments have been analyzed as a function of objective probability (OP) and generally have been found to be conservative, that is, to represent underconfidence. In the calibration literature, analyses of OP (operationalized as relative frequency correct) as a function of SP have led to the opposite conclusion, that judgment is generally overconfident. Reanalysis of 3 studies shows that both results can be obtained from the same set of data, depending on the method of analysis. The simultaneous effects are then generated and factors influencing them are explored by means of a model that instantiates a very general theory of how SP estimates arise from true judgments perturbed by random error. While concerns about the psychological effects of war are not new, only recently has systematic attention been paid to such problems among past and present military personnel. There is increasing recognition that mental health has serious implications for operational performance, retention, and compensation. Although little controlled research exists with this population, preliminary evidence suggests that psychological treatments for posttraumatic stress disorder may be beneficial, albeit less so than for civilian populations. This article reviews evidence for each of several psychological treatment stages: stabilization and engagement, psychoeducation, symptom management, prolonged exposure, cognitive restructuring, and relapse prevention, with particular reference to the clinical issues raised by military personnel. A heterogeneous finite element model with randomly distributed inhomogeneities has been developed for the determination of
the forming limit diagram (FLD) for thin aluminum sheet material based on the prediction of localized necking. The strength
difference between the inhomogeneities and the matrix is ascertained either from the fluctuation of the experimental stress-strain
curve or from a micromechanical analysis that uses a representative particle field. By changing the specimen geometry and
friction conditions, different stress states (or strain paths) are achieved. A plot of the critical Oyane fracture parameter
is used to identify the limit strain state. Also, a plot of equivalent plastic strain rate is used to distinguish the boundary
of intense shear bands and hence to identify where to take the measurement point. Both a plane stress model and a three-dimensional
(3-D) model are adopted to predict the shear banding phenomenon and hence the FLD. The predicted FLD agrees well with the
measurements from a recent round robin experimental FLD involving several independent research laboratories. The Taguchi method

At high temperatures in clean oxidizing environments, SiC forms a very protective SiO2 film, but, in environments containing low levels of gaseous alkali salt contaminants or where condensed salts may deposit on the surface, the resistance of the film is significantly reduced. Oxidation kinetics of SiC were measured by continuous thermogravimetric analysis in a controlled environment containing CO2 , H2 O, and O2 plus low levels of potassium-containing salts. Potassium was found to be incorporated into the SiO2 scale and to significantly change its transport properties and its morphology.
