We aimed to evaluate the long-term effect of hemodialysis (HD) treatment on left and right ventricular (LV and RV) functions in patients with end-stage renal disease. The study population consisted of 22 patients with newly diagnosed end-stage renal disease. Before an arteriovenous fistula was surgically created for HD, the patients were evaluated by echocardiography for systolic and diastolic functions. After the first HD session (mean 24.22 ± 2.14 months), the second echocardiographic evaluations were performed. Left ventricular and RV functions before and after long-term HD treatment were compared. The mean age was 55 ± 13 years and 10 (45%) of the patients were female. After long-term HD treatment, the isovolumic relaxation time was significantly decreased; however, the peak early (E) and late (A) diastolic mitral inflow velocities, E/A ratio, and deceleration time of E wave were not significantly different from the baseline measurements. Also, there was no significantly change in the early diastolic velocity (Ea) of the lateral mitral anulus and the E/Ea ratio. Pulmonary vein peak diastolic velocity, peak atrial reversal velocity, and peak atrial reversal velocity duration remained almost unchanged even though the pulmonary vein peak systolic velocity and the pulmonary vein peak systolic velocity/pulmonary vein peak diastolic velocity ratio were significantly lower after long-term HD treatment. In addition, LV systolic functions, LV diameters, LV mass index, left atrium size, and RV diastolic functions were not statistically different after long-term HD treatment. The myocardium is exposed to hemodynamic, metabolic, and neuro-humoral abnormalities during HD treatment; however, the long-term effects of HD on ventricular functions are not clearly known. The present study showed that the long-term effects of HD on LV and RV functions were insignificant in patients with end-stage renal disease. We have demonstrated that the LV and RV functions did not change significantly after long-term HD treatment. We suggest that this result may be due to regulated blood pressure levels of the patients, treatment of anemia and other metabolic disorders during the HD period and the prevention of weight gain and hypervolemia.  相似文献

A new method for the preconcentration of some trace metals (Co, Ni, Cu, and Cd) as complexed with ammonium pyrrolidynedithiocarbamate (APDC) was developed using a mini-column filled with Amberlite XAD-2000 resin. Metal contents were determined by flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS) after the metal complexes accumulated on the resin were eluted with 1M HNO(3) in acetone. The effects of the analytical parameters such as sample pH, quantity of complexing agent, eluent type, resin quantity, sample volume, sample flow rate, and matrix ions were investigated on the recovery of the metals from aqueous solutions. The relative standard deviation (R.S.D.) of the method was <6%. The validation of the method was confirmed using two certified reference materials (CRM TMDW-500 Drinking Water and CRM SA-C Sandy Soil C). The method was successfully applied to some stream waters and mushroom samples from Eastern Black Sea Region (Trabzon city) of Turkey.  相似文献

Motor vehicles are a significant source of airborne polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) in many urban areas. Traditional approaches used in determining the relative contributions of individual vehicle types to the total amount of PAH in air have been based on the analysis of integrated samples of airborne particles and gases for the presence of chemical tracers indicative of the vehicles from which the chemicals derived. As an alternative, we have used a photoelectric aerosol sensor (PAS) capable of measuring PAH levels in real-time in the emissions plumes from motor vehicles. We placed the PAS near a traffic-light in Kenmore Square, a busy crossroads in downtown Boston (MA, USA). A video camera co-located at the site recorded the vehicles passing the sensor, and this record was correlated with the PAS data. During a 5-day monitoring period (approximately 59 h) in the summer of 1998, over 34,000 motor vehicles were counted and classified and over 24,000 PAS readings were recorded (frequency = 1/8.6 s). The composition of the vehicle population was 94% passenger vehicles, 1.4% buses, 2.6% small trucks, 1.3% medium trucks, 0.35% large trucks, and 0.45% garbage and construction trucks. In analyzing the PAS data, it was assumed that the highest PAS measurements--those that exceeded the 95% critical level of the 5-min moving average of all the PAS measurements--were indicative of primary vehicular emissions. We found that approximately 46% of the mass of particle-bound PAH (i.e. approximately 46% of the integrated area under the PAS signal vs. time plots) was attributable to primary emissions from motor vehicles passing the sensor. Of this, 35-61% was attributable to passenger vehicles (cars, pickup trucks, and sports utility vehicles) and 39-65% was attributable to non-passenger vehicles [buses (14-23%), small trucks (12-20%), medium trucks (8.4-14%), large trucks (2.9-4.8%) and garbage and construction trucks (1.9-3.2%)]. Our results suggest that on a per vehicle basis, buses and trucks--the majority of which run on diesel fuel--emitted greater amounts of particle-bound PAH than passenger vehicles. Overall, we found that real-time photoelectric aerosol sensing (in combination with video photography) is useful for estimating the contributions of airborne PAB from different vehicle types. Due to the physical constraints of our monitoring site and the high volumes of traffic, however, it was not possible to uniquely attribute PAS signals to individual vehicles.  相似文献

Sources and sinks of the atmospherically reactive gas nitrous oxide (N(2)O) were determined in the heavily nutrient loaded Childs River in Cape Cod, MA. Surface waters were supersaturated and bottom waters were depleted with N(2)O throughout the system. In apparent septic effluent plumes, N(2)O concentrations reached 3 orders of magnitude above atmospheric equilibrium. Because nitrate and N(2)O concentrations correlated in groundwater entering the estuary, septic tank effluent appeared responsible for the supersaturated concentrations of N(2)O in surface waters. A hyperbolic function fit nitrate and N(2)O concentrations in the water column of the estuary with a maximum supersaturation of approximately 60 nM. From surface water supersaturation we predicted a release of 480 nmol N(2)O m(-2) h(-1) to the atmosphere in the summer. Property plots of salinity vs. bottom-water N(2)O suggested a benthic sink of N(2)O. Consistent with this trend, sediments consumed rather than released N(2)O in most flux measurements. Nutrient loading did not directly alter benthic N(2)O flux, potentially because stratification limited exposure of sediments to nitrate-rich surface waters, but macroalgal cover increased benthic N(2)O consumption. Sediment N(2)O consumption averaged 111 nmol N(2)O m(-2) h(-1) and correlated with oxygen uptake. Losses from the system to the atmosphere and sediments exceeded inputs of N(2)O contaminated groundwater, which suggests missing N(2)O sources.  相似文献

A simple and highly sensitive separation and preconcentration procedure, which has minimal impact on the environment, has been developed. The procedure is based on the carrier element‐free coprecipitation of Ni(II) and Cu(II) ions by using 2‐{4‐[2‐(1H‐Indol‐3‐yl)ethyl]‐3‐(4‐chlorobenzyl)‐5‐oxo‐4,5‐dihydro‐1H‐1,2,4‐triazol‐1‐yl}‐N′‐(pyrrol‐2‐ylmethyliden)acetohydrazide (ICOTPA), as an organic coprecipitant. The levels of analyte ions were determined by flame atomic absorption spectrometry. The detection limits for Ni(II) and Cu(II) ions were found to be 0.27 and 0.58 μg L?1, respectively, and the relative standard deviations for the analyte ions were lower than 4.0%. Spike tests and certified reference material analyses were performed to validate the method. The method was successfully applied for the determination of Ni(II) and Cu(II) ions levels in sea and stream water as liquid samples and red lentil and rice as solid samples.  相似文献

In this study, data mining technique was applied on computational texture features obtained from the analysis of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of hams, with the main objective of determining sensory attributes of dry-cured ham non-destructively. For that, fresh and dry-cured hams were scanned and then the MRI images were analyzed by three methods of computational texture features. Data mining was applied on the computational texture features from fresh and dry-cured hams for obtaining prediction equations of the sensory attributes of dry-cured hams. The correlation coefficient (R) was used to analyze the results. Accurate prediction was found for 13 sensory attributes as a function of computational texture features of fresh ham, and three from dry-cured ham. In addition, a sensory analysis of dry-cured hams was also carried out to validate the predicted results. Similar values were found between the predicted attributes and those determined by sensory analysis. Thus, it is possible to predict sensory attributes of dry-cured hams by applying data mining on computational texture features of MRI from fresh and dry-cured hams. This supposes the chance of determining non-destructively sensory attributes of dry-cured hams, even before the curing process starts.  相似文献

Functional and easy‐to‐integrate nanodevices operating in the telecom wavelength ranges are highly desirable. Indeed, the pursuit for faster, cheaper, and smaller transceivers for datacom applications is fueling the interest in alternative materials to develop the next generation of photonic devices. In this context, single wall carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) have demonstrated outstanding electrical and optical properties that make them an ideal material for the realization of ultracompact optoelectronic devices. Still, the mixture in chirality of as‐synthesized SWNTs and the necessity of precise positioning of SWNT‐based devices hinder the development of practical devices. Here, the realization of operational devices obtained using liquid solution‐based techniques is reported, which allow high‐purity sorting and localized deposition of aligned semiconducting SWNTs (s‐SWNTs). More specifically, devices are demonstrated by combining a polymer assisted extraction method, which enables a very effective selection of s‐SWNTs with a diameter of about 1–1.2 nm, with dielectrophoresis, which localizes the deposition onto silicon wafers in aligned arrays in‐between prepatterned electrodes. Thus, long semiconducting nanotubes directly contact the electrodes and, when asymmetric contacts (i.e., source and drain made of different metals) are used, each device can operate both as photoemitter and as photodetector in the telecom band around 1.55 µm in air at room temperature.  相似文献

The low-frequency noise of lattice-matched InAlAs/InGaAs/InP high electron mobility transistors (HEMT's) gate recess etched with a highly selective dry etching process and with conventional wet etching were studied at different gate and drain biases for the temperature range of 77-340 K. The measurements showed a significantly lower normalized drain current 1/f noise for the dry etched HEMT's under all bias conditions. No difference in the normalized gate current 1/f noise could be observed for the two device types. By varying the temperature, four electron traps could be identified in the drain current noise spectra for both dry and wet etched devices. No additional traps were introduced by the dry etching step. The concentration of the main trap in the Schottky layer is one order of magnitude lower for the dry etched HEMT's. No hydrogen passivation of the shallow donors was observed in these devices. We presume hydrogen passivation of the deep levels as the cause for the trap density reduction. The kink effect in the dry etched HEMT's was observed to be reduced significantly compared with wet etched devices which gives further evidence of trap passivation during dry etching. These results show that dry etched InP HEMT's have suitable characteristics for the fabrication of devices for noise sensitive applications  相似文献
