This paper highlights the structural performance of steel–concrete composite girders strengthened using advanced composite laminates. Nonlinear 3-D finite element models have been developed to investigate the flexural behaviour and load carrying capacity of the girders. The composite laminates comprised carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) plates and sheets as well as steel reinforced polymer (SRP) sheets. The elastic modulus and ultimate tensile strength of the laminates varied from low to high 60–300 GPa and 700–3100 MPa, respectively. The nonlinear material properties of the strengthened composite girder components comprising concrete, structural steel beam, reinforcement bars, adhesive and composite laminates were incorporated in the finite element model. The interfaces between the composite girder components were also considered allowing the contact and bond behaviour to be modelled and the different components to retain its profile during the deformation of the strengthened composite girder. Furthermore, the load-slip characteristic of headed stud shear connectors was incorporated in the finite element models based on previous experimental and numerical investigations conducted by the author. The finite element models have been validated against published tests on composite girders strengthened using different advanced composite laminates and having different cross-section geometries, lengths, layers of laminates with different elastic moduli and ultimate tensile strengths, concrete strengths and structural steel strengths. The load carrying capacity of strengthened composite girders, load–vertical displacement behaviour and failure modes were predicted from the finite element analyses and compared against test results. Parametric studies were conducted to study the effects on the load carrying capacity and structural behaviour of strengthened composite girders owing to the change in the composite laminate elastic modulus, number of laminate layers, concrete strengths and structural steel strengths. The study has shown that the increase in the load carrying capacity and ductility of strengthened composite girders due to the increase in steel beam strength is significant with high strength concrete slab. Also, it has been shown that the increase in concrete strength offers a considerable increase in the initial stiffness of strengthened composite girders, while the increase in structural steel strength offers a considerable increase in the stiffness of strengthened composite girder in the post-yielding stage.  相似文献

This paper investigates the behaviour of pin-ended axially loaded concrete encased steel composite columns. A nonlinear 3-D finite element model was developed to analyse the inelastic behaviour of steel, concrete, longitudinal and transverse reinforcement bars as well as the effect of concrete confinement of the concrete encased steel composite columns. The interface between the steel section and concrete, the longitudinal and transverse reinforcement bars, and the reinforcement bars and concrete were also considered that allowed the bond behaviour to be modeled and the different components to retain their profile during the deformation of the column. Furthermore, the initial overall (out-of-straightness) geometric imperfection was carefully incorporated in the model. The finite element model has been validated against published experimental results. The main objective of the study was to understand the structural response and modes of failure of the columns and to assess the composite column strengths against current design codes. The study covered slender, non-slender, stub and long concrete encased steel composite columns. The concrete strengths varied from normal to high strength (20-110 MPa). The steel section yield stresses also varied from normal to high strength (275-690 MPa). Furthermore, the variables that influence the composite column behaviour and strength comprising different slenderness ratios, concrete strength and steel yield stress were investigated in a parametric study. It is shown that the increase in structural steel strength has a small effect on the composite column strength for the columns having higher relative slenderness ratios due to the flexural buckling failure mode. The composite column strengths obtained from the finite element analysis were compared with the design strengths calculated using the American Institute for Steel Construction AISC and Eurocode 4 for composite columns. Generally, it is shown that the EC 4 accurately predicted the design strength for the concrete encased steel composite columns having a concrete cylinder strength of 30 MPa and structural steel yield stresses of 275 and 460 MPa, which are in the limits of the code, which otherwise, was generally conservative. The AISC predictions were quite conservative for all the concrete encased steel composite columns.  相似文献

The effect of packet loss on the quality of real-time audio is significant. Nevertheless, Internet measurement experiments continue to show a considerable variation of packet loss, which makes audio error recovery and concealment challenging. We propose a novel framework to predict packet loss and congestion, based on measurements of end-to-end delay variation and trend, enabling proactive error recovery and congestion avoidance. Our preliminary simulation and experimentation results with various sites on the Internet show the effectiveness and the accuracy of the Loss Predictor technique.  相似文献

This study investigated the acute effects of ethanol (0.25, 0.5, or 1 g/kg, iv) on mean arterial pressure, heart rate, and gain of the baroreceptor reflex control of heart rate (BRS) in conscious spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs) and age-matched Wistar rats. BRS was substantially lower in the SHRs as compared with the Wistar rats when measured by phenylephrine (-0.95 +/- 0.16 vs. -2.02 +/- 0.22 beats/min/mm Hg) or nitroprusside (-1.90 +/- 0.2 vs -3.02 +/- 0.32 beats/min/mm Hg). None of the doses of ethanol influenced BRS in the SHR. In contrast, ethanol attenuated BRS in Wistar rats, but this effect was dependent on the dose used and the type of response. The lower doses attenuated the reflex tachycardic response, but had no effect on the reflex bradycardic response. On the other hand, the 1 g/kg dose of ethanol attenuated the reflex bradycardic but not the tachycardic response. Ethanol produced a pressor effect (15-25 mm Hg; 5-min duration), which was neither dose- nor strain-dependent. However, only in the SHR mean arterial pressure remained elevated (10-15 mm Hg above control) for 20 min in response to the 0.5 g/kg dose of ethanol, and its recovery coincided with the occurrence of a slowly developing negative chronotropic response. Ethanol produced a dose-related negative chronotropic effect in both strains of rats that was of longer duration in the SHR, particularly with the 1 g/kg dose. The main vegetable oils used in Egypt are cottonseed oil and hydrogenated cottonseed oil; these are used as salad oil and for cooking. Determination of trace heavy metals in the oils is important. This is because of the association of trace metals with the origin of the oils, metal processing equipment and catalysts used for hydrogenation, and toxicity of edible oils, and because of the effect of trace metals on the characteristics, such as colour and taste, of finished products.Iron, copper, aluminium and magnesium were found in the cottonseed oil. These metals were also found in the hydrogenated cottonseed oil, together with lead, silver and calcium. The amounts of metals were below the limits permitted by public health and safety regulations.  相似文献

We propose a step-by-step experimental procedure for characterization of the nonlinear contact stiffness on surfaces using contact-mode atomic force microscopy. Our approach directly estimates the first-, second-, and third-order coefficients of the contact stiffness. It neither uses nor requires the underlying assumptions of the Hertzian contact theory. We use a primary resonance excitation of the probe to estimate the linear coefficient of the contact stiffness. We use the method of multiple scales to obtain closed-form expressions approximating the response of the probe to a subharmonic resonance excitation of order one-half. We utilize these expressions and higher-order spectral measurements to independently estimate the quadratic and cubic coefficients of the contact stiffness.  相似文献

This paper proposes a new discrete wavelet transform (DWT)-based joint antenna selection scheme for spatially correlated multiple-input multiple output (MIMO) channels. To reduce the severe performance degradation of the traditional antenna selection schemes in correlated channels, a new scheme which employ joint antenna selection (JAS) at both link ends algorithm and embed DWT operations in the receiver-end RF chains is proposed. Through extensive simulations it is demonstrated that the proposed DWT-based joint antenna selection has significant improvement of the capacity for both i.i.d and correlated MIMO channels, while requiring only a minor hardware overhead and low computational complexity for the DWT operations. Moreover, it is shown that the capacity associated with DWT-based JAS is higher than the system employing DWT-based receive antenna selection (RAS) only. This is achieved in i.i.d. and correlated MIMO channels.  相似文献

A nanocomposite of (chitosan/polyacrylamide/gold) (Cs/AAm/Au) and (chitosan/polyacrylamide) (Cs/AAm) hydrogel were performed using gamma radiation and employed as a carrier for Cisplatin cancer drug. The structure and morphology were studied by FTIR and FE-SEM, respectively. XRD and TEM confirmed the formation of the nanoconposite. The average particle size ranged between 13 to 27?nm. EDX estimated that the concentration of Au0 nanoparticles in (Cs/AAm/Au) nanocomposite was 0.20%. Both (Cs/AAm) and (Cs/AAm/Au) have higher swelling percent and reached the swelling equilibrium within 6?h. The optimum pH of swelling was at pH 7.2. The maximum Cisplatin drug released was 33% for Cs/AAm hydrogel and 96% for Cs/AAm/Au nanocomposite at pH 7.2 through 320 and 410?min, respectively. The release mechanism was found to be followed the non-Fickian diffusion mechanism for both systems. The cytotoxicity against liver cancer (HepG2) was investigated. Cisplatin drug loaded samples (Cs/AAm) drug loaded hydrogel of concentration 100?μg/ml killed 76.4% of the cells and IC50 reached 29?μg/ml whereas (Cs/AAm/Au) drug loaded nanocomposite killed 84.9 of the cells and IC50 reached 22.7?μg/ml.  相似文献

The pyrolysis of different plastic waste types such as low density polyethylene (LDPE), high density polyethylene (HDPE), polypropylene (PP), polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and polystyrene (PS) for producing multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) using a two-stage process has been investigated. Firstly, the cracking of plastic wastes was carried out at a temperature of 700°C to produce hydrocarbon gases. In the second stage, the produced hydrocarbon gases were decomposed at 650°C on the surface of the Ni-Mo/Al2O3 catalyst to form CNTs. Various analytical tools such as XRD, TPR, TGA, Raman spectroscopy and TEM were used to describe both the fresh catalyst and the obtained CNTs. The results showed that the amount of the hydrocarbon gases was related to the type of plastic waste and hence the CNT yield. Accordingly, LDPE or PP was decomposed to produce the largest gases yield of 72.5 or 70.7 wt%, respectively. As a result, a large CNTs yield of 5.8 and 5 g/gcat can be achieved by pyrolysis of PP and LDPE waste, respectively. However, a small yield of CNTs with little quality and low purity was obtained by using PS or PET waste as the carbon feedstock.  相似文献
