The two-photon absorption coefficients (beta) and the third-order nonlinear susceptibilities (chi(3)) of several semiconductor nanoparticles (CdS, Cd(x)Ag(1-x)S, and core-shell CdS/Ag2S) that are confined and stabilized by random and block ionomers have been measured by nonlinear transmission and degenerate four-wave mixing techniques using 21 picosecond laser pulses at near-infrared spectral region. The imaginary part of the third-order nonlinear susceptibility that is related to the two-photon absorption coefficient was then calculated. The absorptive nonlinearity of the nanoparticles (2 approximately 9 nm) was found to be dependent on the particle size, composition and wavelength, i.e., larger CdS particles exhibit higher two-photon absorption coefficients and the presence of Ag improves two-photon absorption of CdS nanoparticles. The obtained two-photon absorption coefficients of nanoparticles corrected for their volume fraction in solution are significantly greater that those of corresponding bulk semiconductors.  相似文献

An integrative model of the conative process, which has important ramifications for psychological need satisfaction and hence for individuals' well-being, is presented. The self-concordance of goals (i.e., their consistency with the person's developing interests and core values) plays a dual role in the model. First, those pursuing self-concordant goals put more sustained effort into achieving those goals and thus are more likely to attain them. Second, those who attain self-concordant goals reap greater well-being benefits from their attainment. Attainment-to-well-being effects are mediated by need satisfaction, i.e., daily activity-based experiences of autonomy, competence, and relatedness that accumulate during the period of striving. The model is shown to provide a satisfactory fit to 3 longitudinal data sets and to be independent of the effects of self-efficacy, implementation intentions, avoidance framing, and life skills. OBJECTIVES: The objectives of this study were to compare the pharmacokinetic parameters of ibuprofen administered as a suspension, chewable tablet, or tablet in children with cystic fibrosis and to determine the optimal blood sampling times for measuring ibuprofen peak concentrations. STUDY DESIGN: A single oral 20 mg/kg dose of ibuprofen was administered, and blood samples were obtained at 15, 30, 45, 60, 120, 240, and 360 minutes after the dose was administered. Peak plasma concentration (Cmax ), time to peak concentration (Tmax ), and other pharmacokinetic parameters were determined and compared (analysis of variance and analysis of covariance). Three parallel implementations of a divide‐and‐conquer search algorithm (called SUDA2) for finding minimal unique itemsets (MUIs) are compared in this paper. The identification of MUIs is used by national statistics agencies for statistical disclosure assessment. The first parallel implementation adapts SUDA2 to a symmetric multi‐processor cluster using the message passing interface (MPI), which we call an MPI cluster; the second optimizes the code for the Cray MTA2 (a shared‐memory, multi‐threaded architecture) and the third uses a heterogeneous ‘group’ of workstations connected by LAN. Each implementation considers the parallel structure of SUDA2, and how the subsearch computation times and sequence of subsearches affect load balancing. All three approaches scale with the number of processors, enabling SUDA2 to handle larger problems than before. For example, the MPI implementation is able to achieve nearly two orders of magnitude improvement with 132 processors. Performance results are given for a number of data sets. This longitudinal study was designed to evaluate cellular immunity in early-stage, asymptomatic human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-1-infected persons (CD4 cell count,>400/mm3; median, 625/mm3) who were immunized with either recombinant (r) gp160 or placebo every 2 months for 5 years. Proliferative responses were assessed against rgp160, rp24, and a panel of recall antigens and mitogens. Despite good reactivity to recall antigens, at baseline approximately 33% had proliferative responses to gp160, and approximately 42% showed p24 gag responses. There was no statistical difference between vaccine and placebo groups for antigens or mitogens. After 1 year, approximately 73% of the subjects in the vaccine arm had new or boosted responses to gp160, versus approximately 18% in the placebo arm. Statistical significance was maintained throughout the study. Recurrent vaccination with recombinant gp160 was proven to be persistently immunogenic, increasing significantly the ability of HIV-1-infected persons to mount new proliferative responses to the vaccine.  相似文献

To study the chemotactic response of sperm to an egg and to characterize sperm motility, an annular laser trap based on axicons is designed, simulated with the ray-tracing tool, and implemented. The diameter of the trapping ring can be adjusted dynamically for a range of over 400 microm by simply translating one axicon along the optical axis. Trapping experiments with microspheres and dog sperm demonstrate the feasibility of the system, and the power requirement agrees with theoretical expectation. This new type of laser trapping could provide a prototype of a parallel, objective, and quantitative tool for animal fertility and biotropism study.  相似文献

In this paper, we address the problem of estimating the parameters of an electrophysiological model of the heart from a set of electrical recordings. The chosen model is the reaction-diffusion model on the transmembrane potential proposed by Aliev and Panfilov. For this model of the transmembrane, we estimate a local apparent two-dimensional conductivity from a measured depolarization time distribution. First, we perform an initial adjustment including the choice of initial conditions and of a set of global parameters. We then propose a local estimation by minimizing the quadratic error between the depolarization time computed by the model and the measures. As a first step we address the problem on the epicardial surface in the case of an isotropic version of the Aliev and Panfilov model. The minimization is performed using Brent method without computing the derivative of the error. The feasibility of the approach is demonstrated on synthetic electrophysiological measurements. A proof of concept is obtained on real electrophysiological measures of normal and infarcted canine hearts.  相似文献

In many nonhuman species of vertebrates, females are attracted to red on male conspecifics. Red is also a signal of male status in many nonhuman vertebrate species, and females show a mating preference for high-status males. These red–attraction and red–status links have been found even when red is displayed on males artificially. In the present research, we document parallels between human and nonhuman females' response to male red. Specifically, in a series of 7 experiments we demonstrate that women perceive men to be more attractive and sexually desirable when seen on a red background and in red clothing, and we additionally show that status perceptions are responsible for this red effect. The influence of red appears to be specific to women's romantic attraction to men: Red did not influence men's perceptions of other men, nor did it influence women's perceptions of men's overall likability, agreeableness, or extraversion. Participants showed no awareness that the research focused on the influence of color. These findings indicate that color not only has aesthetic value but can carry meaning and impact psychological functioning in subtle, important, and provocative ways. A multifunctional one‐dimensional nanostructure incorporating both CdSe quantum dots (QDs) and Fe3O4 nanoparticles (NPs) within a SiO2‐nanotube matrix is successfully synthesized based on the self‐assembly of preformed functional NPs, allowing for control over the size and amount of NPs contained within the composite nanostructures. This specific nanostructure is distinctive because both the favorable photoluminescent and magnetic properties of QD and NP building blocks are incorporated and retained within the final silica‐based composite, thus rendering it susceptible to both magnetic guidance and optical tracking. Moreover, the resulting hydrophilic nanocomposites are found to easily enter into the interiors of HeLa cells without damage, thereby highlighting their capability not only as fluorescent probes but also as possible drug‐delivery vehicles of interest in nanobiotechnology.  相似文献
