Aqueous tape casting of yttria stabilized zirconia   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
Tape casting process was used to produce yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) substrates in an aqueous system with poly(vinylalcohol) (PVA) and glycerine as binder and plasticizer, respectively. Various compositions of YSZ slips with different amounts of PVA and glycerine and consequently different solid/liquid ratios were prepared. The influence of the slip composition on the rheological properties of the slips was studied. In addition, the effect of the slip composition on the properties of the green and sintered tapes was investigated. PVA and glycerine did not affect the dispersion properties of the YSZ powder. Glycerine additions enhanced the flexibility of the green tapes but also produced a decrease in the tensile strength. The increase in the PVA content increased the tensile strength but resulted in a markedly decrease in the green density of the tapes. A correlation between the green and sintered density was found. The anisotropic sintering shrinkage parallel and perpendicular to the casting direction increased with increasing the PVA content. The slip compositions with 5 wt% PVA produced green tapes with satisfactory tensile strength. They had the highest sintered density, the lower sintering shrinkage and the lesser shrinkage anisotropy.  相似文献

Min-Max MPC (MMMPC) controllers [P.J. Campo, M. Morari, Robust model predictive control, in: Proc. American Control Conference, June 10–12, 1987, pp. 1021–1026] suffer from a great computational burden which limits their applicability in the industry. Sometimes upper bounds of the worst possible case of a performance index have been used to reduce the computational burden. This paper proposes a computationally efficient MMMPC control strategy in which the worst case cost is approximated by an upper bound based on a diagonalization scheme. The upper bound can be computed with O(n3) operations and using only simple matrix operations. This implies that the algorithm can be coded easily even in non-mathematical oriented programming languages such as those found in industrial embedded control hardware. Response of adults of the West Indian sugarcane weevil,Metamasius hemipterus sericeus, to various semiochemical treatments and physical trap designs was studied in southern Florida in field-grown banana and Canary Island date palms. Ethyl acetate released alone at 860–1007 mg/day was as effective for the capture ofM. h. sericeus as a combination of ethyl acetate (844–919 mg/day), ethyl propionate (348–362 mg/day), and ethyl butyrate (117–137 mg/day) and in one trial was more effective than fermenting sugarcane (250 g), ethyl propionate alone (353–384 mg/day), ethyl butyrate alone (123–174 mg/day), or no treatment. Ethyl acetate released alone at 675–683 mg/day was as attractive as 250 g of fermenting sugarcane or the racemic blend of the male-produced aggregation pheromones [(±)-5-methyl-nonan-4-ol and (±)-2-methyl-heptan-4-ol (8:1 ratio) “metalure”] at 3 mg/day. Weevil counts increased with binary combinations of ethyl acetate, sugarcane, and/or metalure over these treatments alone and the ternary combination was two to three times more effective than any of the binary treatments. Attraction to ethyl acetate released alone at 777 mg/day with metalure was greater than to the hydrolysis products of ethyl acetate (ethanol and/or acetic acid each released at about 6–8 mg/day) with metalure. Weevil counts from traps baited with 250 g of sugarcane and metalure increased with increasing dose of ethyl acetate to about 400 mg/day and then appeared to plateau. Ethyl acetate (about 700 mg/day) and metalure increased weevil counts in traps with increasing amounts of sugarcane (0–2 kg). Molasses (45 g) + water (158 ml) substitutes for sugarcane were about as effective for capturingM. h. sericeus as 250 g of fermenting sugarcane [all treatments with ethyl acetate (847 mg/day) and metalure]. Early experiments used a lethal pitfall trap. We demonstrated that several alternative trap designs were more effective than the lethal pitfall trap for capturing weevils. Color and height (on ground vs. 1 m on pole) did not affect trap efficacy when baited with the ternary combination of ethyl acetate (672–825 mg/day), sugarcane (250 g), and metalure.  相似文献

In absence of thrombocytosis, periodic bloodlettings represent the elective therapy of polycythemia vera. In the present study we tested if neocytoapheresis, a method able to remove large quantities of younger, and then bigger red cells could represent an alternative therapeutic choice in these patients. We found that the employment of neocytoapheresis produced a remarkable delay in the time of procedures with a mean interval of 100 +/- 55 days. The mean value of hematocrit before neocytopheresis is resulted statistically different in comparison with the hematocrit after the procedure (p = 0.0001). The reticulocyte count is resulted higher in apheresis product in comparison with the blood control measured before procedure (p = 0.0001). In the same way, the mean corpuscular volume in the collection bags was higher than the volume measured before neocytoapheresis (p = 0.0095). We did not find any variation about the mean values of white blood cells and platelets before and after neocytoapheresis in the patients examined. These preliminary data seem to underline a better withdrawal of big size cells by this technique suggesting the efficacy of neocytoapheresis in the treatment of polycythemia vera.  相似文献

A high incidence of prostate cancer was observed in some areas of Salamanca province, Spain. After excluding the most common etiological factors as the cause, it is concluded that the only possible risk factor must be due to the presence of some environmental carcinogen. In view of the etiological relationship between Cd and the pathological state, a study was carried out on the geochemistry of this element in the area. Anomalous amounts of Cd were found in stream sediments. This anomaly does not correspond to human activity, but rather to high regional amounts of cadmium in the substrate. Thus, the contents of Cd in soils developed over substrates containing naturally-occurring anomalous amounts of cadmium and the concentration in underground waters should be considered as a risk factor in this area.  相似文献

Visually perceiving an action may activate corresponding motor programs. This automatic motor activation can occur both for higher level (i.e., the goal of an action) and for lower level (i.e., the specific effector with which it is executed) aspects of an action. The authors used a tool-use action paradigm to experimentally dissociate priming effects for observing the target, the movement, or the target-to-movement mapping of a tool-use action. In 3 experiments, participants took turns in acting, observing the tool-use action of another person in trial n-1, and executing an action in trial n. Trial transitions from n-1 to n were manipulated in 4 conditions with (a) mapping repeated and movement and target changed, (b) target repeated and movement and mapping changed, (c) movement repeated and target and mapping changed, or (d) all components repeated. Results indicate priming effects for repeating the target-to-movement mapping (i.e., the action rule) of a tool-use action and suggest that a rather abstract action schema is activated during action observation. 3,3'-Iminodipropionitrile (IDPN) causes a permanent syndrome of abnormalities in spontaneous behavior and a deficit in the axonal transport of neurofilaments (NF). Male Long-Evans rats were given IDPN (0, 200, 400, 600, or 1000 mg/kg, ip, in saline) and assessed for behaviors indicative of vestibular function at 1 week post-dosing. The morphology of the peripheral vestibular system in animals dosed with 0, 200, 400, 600, 800, or 1000 mg/kg of IDPN was assessed at 4 days post-dosing by light microscopy on semithin sections. Animals receiving 1000, 1500, or 2000 mg/kg of IDPN were assessed for morphological alterations in the vestibular ganglion at 8 days post-dosing. Behavioral data indicated a dose-dependent loss of vestibular function after IDPN, the vestibular deficits first appearing at the 400 mg/kg dose level. IDPN exposure was also observed to result in degeneration of the vestibular sensory hair cells. Degenerative changes were already found at the 400 mg/kg dose level, and were extensive after 1000 mg/kg. In the ganglion neurons, no effects were observed after 1000 mg/kg of IDPN, but perikaryal accumulations of NF were found after 1500 or 2000 mg/kg. In conclusion, the data showed that low doses of IDPN are toxic to the vestibular hair cells, and suggest a link between this action and the effects of the chemical on spontaneous behavior. In addition, doses of IDPN larger than those required for toxicity to the vestibular sensory cells, induced accumulations of NF in the myelinated cell bodies of the vestibular ganglion neurons.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

The ability of fermentative CO2 to blow off the volatile compounds that are synthesized during fermentation has been studied. Model solutions simulating a fermenting must were purged at different CO2 flow rates and temperatures, and the amount of volatile compounds blown off by the stream of CO2 was recorded by high-resolution gas chromatography. Data showed that under normal fermenting conditions, fatty acid ethyl esters and some fusel alcohol acetates are blown off the solution at a high rate. The maximum loss rate was observed for ethyl decanoate. The purging speed is doubled when temperature increases from 17 °C to 27 °C. Losses can be interpreted by a linear model and are a function of the compound and the flow rate of CO2. These models allow us to reconstruct the volatile synthesis vs time functions through graphic calculus and to estimate the proportion of volatile material retained, hydrolysed and purged. Synthesis takes place during the tumultuous period of fermentation together with CO2 production that blows off the volatile material. Hydrolysis takes place in the last stages of fermentation. In a 10-1 open fermenter, up to 80% of volatile material can be blown off while an average of 10% is retained. Residual esterase activity accounts for about 20% of the total amount of ester synthesized.  相似文献

PURPOSE: The relationship between seizure frequency and both health care costs and quality of life (QOL) was investigated in a retrospective, cross-sectional, multicenter study in France, Germany, and the United Kingdom. METHODS: Three hundred outpatients with stable partial epilepsy were approximately evenly distributed among five seizure-frequency groups, ranging from seizure-free in the last 3 months (group 1) to daily seizures (group 5). Economic data, obtained through patient interviews and record abstraction, comprised direct medical costs, direct nonmedical costs, and indirect costs for the preceding 3 months. Total societal costs in the three countries were pooled and converted to United States dollar equivalents. QOL was assessed through a self-administered questionnaire, the Functional Status Questionnaire (FSQ). RESULTS: Mean total costs increased from $780 in group 1 to $2,171 in group 5 (p = 0.0001), with significant increases in each cost category as seizure frequency increased. Greater seizure frequency also significantly (p = 0.0270) correlated with lower employment rates, which ranged from 57% in group 1 to 30% in group 5. QOL declined as seizure frequency increased. Particularly affected were basic and intermediate activities of daily living (ADL), mental health, social activity, and feeling about health. CONCLUSIONS: The study results show that higher seizure frequencies are associated with higher direct and indirect costs and with reduced QOL for patients with epilepsy.  相似文献

Glutamine 105 in the third transmembrane helix of the thyrotropin-releasing hormone receptor (TRH-R) occupies a position equivalent to a conserved negatively charged residue in receptors for biogenic amines where it acts as counterion interacting with the cationic amine moiety of the ligand. Maximum levels of response to TRH in oocytes expressing wild-type TRH-Rs were indistinguishable from those of oocytes expressing receptors mutated to Glu, Asn, or Asp in position 105. However, the EC50 values for activation of oocyte responses increased more than 500 times in oocytes expressing mutant Glu105 receptors, in which the amido group of Gln105 has been removed by site-directed mutagenesis. Charge effects do not seem to be involved in the huge effect of mutating Gln105 to Glu, since mutation of Gln105 to Asp induces only a 15-fold increase in EC50. Furthermore, no change in EC50 is observed after mutation of Asn110 to Asp. The affinity shift (identified by changes in EC50 values for systems of comparable efficacy) in Glu105 mutant receptors was partially recovered in oocytes expressing Asn105 mutant receptors. These results and those obtained after substitution of Lys, Leu, Tyr, and Ser for Gln105 suggest that the presence and the correct position of the Gln hydrogen bond-donor amido group are important for normal functionality of the receptor. In wild type or Asp105 mutant receptors showing the same maximal responses, decreases in affinity with TRH and methyl-histidyl-TRH correlated with increased dissociation rates of hormone from the receptor. Rapid dilution experiments following subsecond stimulation indicate that the TRH-R is converted rapidly from a form showing fast dissociation kinetics to a form from which the hormone dissociates slowly. Mutation of residue 105 impairs the receptor shift between these two forms. This effect was demonstrated in a direct way by comparing [3H]methyl-histidyl-TRH dissociation rates in COS-7 cells transfected with either wild type or Asp105 mutant TRH-Rs. Thus, residues located in transmembrane helix III positions equivalent to those of the counterions for biogenic amines, regulate hormone-receptor interactions in the TRH receptor (and perhaps other receptors). Furthermore, the nature of the amino acid in these positions may also play a role, directly or indirectly, in conformational changes leading to receptor activation, and hence to signal transduction.  相似文献
