Millions of tonnes of Pb–Zn ore flotation tailings and waste rock have been discharged at sites in northern Tunisia without concern for environmental issues. The tailings are dominantly fine grained (<125 μm), with high porosity and permeability. The tailings were characterized to assess base metal (Pb, Zn, and Cd) mobility. The relatively low percentage of iron sulphide and the dominance of carbonates in the matrices of the tailings indicated that only neutral mine drainage is likely. Batch sequential testing showed that the calcium and sulphate, which are the major ionic species in solution, are derived mainly from the dissolution of gypsum and not from neutralization of acidity generated by pyrite oxidation. Yet, despite the carbonate setting, the resultant neutral to slightly alkaline pH, and prolonged weathering, the studied flotation tailings maintain their capacity to release contaminants, notably Zn and Cd, into the environment. The amount of Zn that dissolves (2,400 μg L?1, on average), though significant, is below the background concentrations in the Mejerda River and the environmental norms established for surface waters. Pb concentrations come close to the standards, but only Cd (18 μg L?1, on average) sometimes exceeds current river water concentrations and environmental standards.  相似文献

The inhibition performance of the 3,5-bis(4-methoxyphenyl)-4-amino-1,2,4-triazole (4-MAT) on mild steel in normal hydrochloric acid medium (1 M HCl) at 30 °C was tested by weight loss, potentiodynamic polarisation and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) techniques. This organic compound inhibits the acidic corrosion even at very low concentration, reaching a value of inhibition efficiency up to 98% at a concentration of 3 × 10−4 M. The results obtained from the different corrosion evaluation techniques are in good agreement. Polarisation curves indicate that 4-MAT is a mixed inhibitor, affecting both cathodic and anodic corrosion currents. Data, obtained from EIS measurements, were analyzed to model the corrosion inhibition process through appropriate equivalent circuit model, a constant phase element (CPE) has been used. The adsorption of 4-MAT on the steel surface, in 1 M HCl solution, obeys to Langmuir’s isotherm with a very high negative value of the free energy of adsorption ΔG°ads (chemisorption). X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) was carried out to establish the mechanism of corrosion inhibition of mild steel in 1 M HCl medium in the presence of 3,5-bis(4-methoxyphenyl)-4-amino-1,2,4-triazole (4-MAT).  相似文献

Bouhezza is an Algerian cheese, which is ripened in a goat-skin bag, called Chekoua. The aim of the study was to determine the protein profiles and aromatics, which contribute to sensory properties of Bouhezza cheese. The chemical composition, proteolysis, and volatile profile have been carried out in cheese made from raw goat milk. The results showed that, the dry matter ranged from 23.07 to 51.95%, the fat-in-dry matter ranged from 10.58 to 31.77%, and the protein ranged from 28.27 to 42.09%. Water-soluble and 12% trichloroacetic acid-soluble nitrogen fractions decreased at the beginning of the ripening process and then they increased until the end of ripening. The reverse phase-high-performance liquid chromatography peptide profiles of the cheese showed the modifications occurred during the ripening process. The volatile compounds showed a diversity of odorous components which contribute to give to the cheese its particular organoleptic. There were 109 compounds identified in Bouhezza cheese. Carboxylic acids, esters, and alcohols were the main classes of the volatile components in the cheese.  相似文献

Gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata) and hake (Merluccius merluccius) muscle behave differently during storage, whether in ice or deep frozen. Rapid changes have been observed in the texture of hake muscle during frozen storage, while gilthead sea bream has proved to be more stable. In order to ascertain the role of muscle proteins in the changes observed during storage, parameters related to protein functionality and the properties of extracted natural actomyosin (NAM) were studied initially and during storage in ice or at ?20 °C. Initially, the parameters related to functionality had higher values in hake muscle and extracted NAM than in gilthead sea bream. At the end of iced storage (22 days), less myosin heavy chain (MHC) and actin were extracted from hake, but there was practically no change in gilthead sea bream. This decrease was not accompanied by lower Ca2+‐ATPase activity. Freezing produced no drastic changes, with lower values for gilthead sea bream. However, this species was more stable after 1 year, except for the Ca2+‐ATPase activity of NAM. This suggests that the changes that hake proteins underwent during storage particularly affected properties related to aggregation, whereas in gilthead sea bream the changes hardly affected the formation of soluble or insoluble aggregates but did affect the active sites of myosin. © 2002 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

The present research emphasizes on the bioactive non-nutrient components of the frequently consumed food products daily. The most popular beverages (instant, filter and Turkish coffee, green, black, sage, apple, rosehip, linden and fennel tea infusions) and herbal spices (cinnamon thyme, cumin, mint, sweet pepper, chili pepper, sumac, black pepper and clove) were investigated to evaluate the antioxidant capacities of the samples. Amount of total biophenols (TB) and total flavonoids (TF) were measured by Folin–Ciocalteu and Aluminum chloride colorimetric methods, respectively. CUPRAC (The cupric ion reducing antioxidant capacity) assay and DPPH (α, α-diphenyl-β-picrylhydrazyl) free radical scavenging method were applied to determine the antioxidant activity (AA) of the products. Antimicrobial analyses of the samples were also conducted based on in vitro study. Furthermore, the main biophenol of each sample was identified through high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The outcome of the present study will be a useful guidance for the researchers looking for the health benefits of these daily consumed food products.  相似文献

The bacteriocinogenic Enterococcus faecium F58 strain, a natural goat's jben cheese isolate, lacks decarboxylase activity involved in most biogenic amine formation. It was also sensitive to 13 antibiotics assayed and free of virulence and vancomycin resistance genes. The F58 strain reached the stationary phase after 12 h of growth in sterile goat's milk, and the production of enterocin F-58 (Ent L50) was first detected after 48 h (400 AU/ml), thereafter remaining stable up to 5 days. The effectiveness of the F58 strain in controlling Listeria monocytogenes serovar 4b in reduced fat and whole goat's milk, and in goat's jben has been examined. Coculture experiments of F58-L. monocytogenes in both types of milk demonstrated that listeriae were not eliminated, although reductions by 1 to 4 log units were found. Nevertheless, when the F58 strain was previously inoculated in whole milk and left to grow for 12 h before contamination, the pathogen was completely eliminated after 130 h of coculture. Production of jben cheese contaminated with L. monocytogenes prior to packaging, using preparations of F58-producer strain, caused a significant decrease in the number of viable listeriae, which were undetectable after 1 week of cheese storage at 22 degrees C. Altogether, results from this study suggest that E. faecium F58 strain may be used as an adjunct culture in cheese to control contamination and growth of L. monocytogenes by in situ enterocin production, thus providing an additional hurdle to enhance control of this pathogen.  相似文献

Prebiotics are short chain carbohydrates that are non-digestible by digestive enzymes in humans and selectively enhance the activity of some groups of beneficial bacteria. In the intestine, prebiotics are fermented by beneficial bacteria to produce short chain fatty acids. Prebiotics also render many other health benefits in the large intestine such as reduction of cancer risk and increase calcium and magnesium absorption. Prebiotics are found in several vegetables and fruits and are considered functional food components which present significant technological advantages. Their addition improves sensory characteristics such as taste and texture, and enhances the stability of foams, emulsions and mouthfeel in a large range of food applications like dairy products and bread. This contribution reviews bioactives from food sources with prebiotic properties. Additionally, food application of bioactive prebiotics, stimulation of the viability of probiotics, health benefits, epidemiological studies, and safety concerns of prebiotics are also reviewed.  相似文献

The aim of this study is to conduct a novel life cycle assessment (LCA) process for a window-mounted building attached photovoltaic panel that is used as a photovoltaic integrated shading (PVIS) device, using GaBi software. Also, the study takes into consideration three different scenarios of the LCA process to reach the most environmentally-friendly system. The three scenarios differ mainly in the end of life processes phase, which in response affects the inputs of the stages within the LCA process. The newly proposed end of life phases are disposing the wastes in the landfill scenario, recycling scenario and recovery scenario. The results showed that the 30 Wp PVIS is environmentally wise to apply to buildings. For the three proposed scenarios, the highest emissions are generated during the production and end of life phases. Consequently, the recycling and the recovery scenarios are more environmentally-friendly in the long run compared to the landfill scenario.  相似文献
