The objective of this work is to evaluate the use of an electrochemical hydrogen pump for recirculation of hydrogen in a fuel
cell stack. The hydrogen pump needed about 130 mV at 0.5 A cm−2, primarily because of the cell resistance (0.18 Ω cm2). This voltage loss was higher than a fuel cell voltage gain resulting from hydrogen recirculation. However, if one pumping
cell is used for 10 active cells this means 13 mV loss per cell (or about 2%) which may be an acceptable voltage penalty.
A stack with hydrogen recirculation should operate with less voltage fluctuation and should need purging less often than a
stack operating with a dead-end mode of hydrogen supply. An additional benefit of hydrogen purification may be achieved in
the systems with a fuel processor where operation in a dead-end mode is not possible. Attention must be paid to water management
when designing and operating a hydrogen pump within a fuel cell stack. 相似文献

PEM electrolysis is a viable alternative for generation of hydrogen from renewable energy sources. Several possible applications are discussed, including grid independent and grid assisted hydrogen generation, use of an electrolyzer for peak shaving, and integrated systems both grid connected and grid independent where electrolytically generated hydrogen is stored and then via fuel cell converted back to electricity when needed. Specific issues regarding the use of PEM electrolyzer in the renewable energy systems are addressed, such as sizing of electrolyzer, intermittent operation, output pressure, oxygen generation, water consumption and efficiency. 相似文献

For the assessment of the safety and durability of a nuclear power plant (NPP), the containment building behaviour shall be evaluated, under various service and extreme conditions, both natural or produced by natural accident or vicious man activities, like September 2001 jet aircraft crashes.The aim of this paper is to preliminary evaluate the effects and consequences of the energy transmitted to the outer containment walls (according to the international safety and design code guidelines, as NRC or IAEA ones) due to a military or civil aircraft impact into a nuclear plant, considered as a ‘beyond design basis’ event.To perform reliable analysis of such a large-scale structure and determine the structural effects of the propagation of this types of impulsive loads (response of containment structure), a realistic but still feasible numerical model with suitable materials characteristics were used by means of which relevant physical phenomena are reflected. Moreover a sensitivity analysis has also been carried out considering the effects of different containment wall thickness and reinforced/prestressed concrete features. A nonconventional approach to the analysis of dedicated computing structures in which the number of compute cycles is used as a design parameter to determine families of transformations implementable in the structure is presented. Using this approach, a single architecture can be used to implement a family of transformations with varying degrees of complexity. The transformations generated by a matrix multiplication array are considered in detail. It is shown that, for some real-time applications it becomes possible to incorporate the compute time as a constraint for designs based in optimality criteria. A concept of using the product water to internally humidify the air stream in a PEM fuel cell without external humidification is investigated by a simple, pseudo 2-D model along a single channel. This model takes into account the mass and energy balance, water and heat generation rates, heat removal, and water transport through the membrane. The model and thus the concept were confirmed experimentally using a 5-segment fuel cell. The temperature of each segment could be individually controlled, and the temperature and humidity of air could be measured between each segment. A temperature profile has been established, by applying spatially variable heat removal rates along the cathode channel, that results in relative humidity being close to 100% throughout the cell without any external humidification. The concept may be applied to a fuel cell stack resulting in simplification of the suporting system by avoiding external humidification. 相似文献

BACKGROUND: Magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) using segmented k-space fast low-angle shot imaging has recently been used to demonstrate the proximal coronary arteries in healthy subjects and in patients with coronary artery disease. We assessed the sensitivity and specificity of coronary MRA in heart transplant recipients and investigated the feasibility of coronary MRA in patients with metallic sutures and clips in the chest. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Sixteen cardiac transplant patients aged 57.2 +/- 7.9 years (mean +/- SD) were recruited. Forty-eight arterial segments were evaluated, including the left main artery (LMA), left anterior descending artery (LADA) and right coronary artery (RCA). We excluded the left circumflex artery which could not be imaged accurately. The average time between heart transplant operation and MRA was 6 years, whereas that between MRA and X-ray angiography was 4 months. The coronary MRA was interpreted by two experienced investigators who were blinded to the coronary X-ray angiography results. Similarly, the coronary X-ray angiography results were interpreted by two experienced investigators blinded to the MRA results. The coronary arterial segments were classified by MRA as being normal or as having an amount of disease that was significant (> 50% lesion) or insignificant (< 50% lesion). RESULTS: There were 28 true-negative, five true-positive, four false-negative and six false-positive results. Of the 28 true-negative cases, 13 were in the LMA, six in the LADA and nine in the RCA. There was one false-positive LMA, two false-positive LADA and three false-positive RCA stenoses. There were four false-negative results in the LADA and one in the RCA. Clips precluded evaluation in one LMA, one LADA and one RCA. One LMA and one LADA were not evaluated as a result of poor images. One false-positive RCA stenosis was caused by a metallic clip. Three of the false-negative LADA stenoses had lesions in the distal third of the artery. The sensitivity, specificity, negative and positive predictive values were generally poor for the left coronary artery. The best results were for the RCA (sensitivity 100%, specificity 75%, positive predictive value 50% and negative predictive value 100%). The specificity in the left coronary arteries (LMA and LADA) was 86%, but the other indicators were all poorer. For the RCA, LMA and LADA combined, the overall sensitivity was 56%, specificity 82%, predictive accuracy 45% and negative predictive value 88%. In three patients, < 50% RCA lesions were seen in the MRA data, which were all confirmed by angiography. No < 50% lesions were seen in the LMA or in the LADA by MRA or by X-ray angiography. CONCLUSION: Coronary MRA using the segmented fast low-angle shot technique is feasible in heart transplant recipients but the sensitivity and specificity of this method are limited. Further developments in coil design, rapid imaging techniques and respiratory monitoring methods are necessary to improve the accuracy of coronary MRA. 相似文献

Fifteen years (1998–2012) of monthly chlorophyll-like pigment concentrations from satellite images (JRC database) were analysed using self-organizing maps (SOMs). The aim was to classify the pigment structures of the Adriatic Sea into a number of patterns present in the data by this novel neural network method. The images are represented by a vector in the multidimensional data-space limited to the Adriatic area. We tried using several predefined patterns, finally selecting an optimal number of 16 spatial structures. Distinct neurons are primarily associated with patterns of different pigment concentration over the whole Adriatic area and with a different extension of the colour front along the west coast. Rare phenomena and variability limited to smaller areas were less represented in the SOM patterns. Although temporal pigment dynamics are synchronous in many areas of the Adriatic Sea, the analysis of their annual course resulted in ten temporal patterns. This representation also demonstrates the ability of the SOM method to connect areas with a particular seasonal variation in chlorophyll. 相似文献
