In this paper, the effect of different pulse and system parameters on the killing efficiency of pulsed electric field (PEF) treatment is investigated. Both Escherichia coli and naturally grown bacteria inoculated in apple juice were treated. Results showed that an electric field higher than 4 kV/mm is required to enhance the killing efficiency using PEF and achieve sufficient log reductions in the microbial numbers. The maximum temperature rise during pulse application was found to be around 35 $^{circ}hbox{C}$ above ambient with the treated medium temperature reaching 41 $^{circ}hbox{C}$, and it is observed that this rise in medium temperature has synergistic effect and has resulted in high inactivation. As the temperature rise can be limited to a value below the pasteurization temperature, the synergistic effect can be highly beneficial. While a high killing rate was achieved for inoculated bacteria (up to 6-log reduction), less than 2-log reduction was achieved for naturally grown bacteria in apple juice under similar test conditions.   相似文献

In this paper, we propose a method for evaluation of the bit error rate (BER) for packet combining based on constellation rearrangement (CoRe). Such mapping diversity scheme, adopted in the high speed downlink packet access (HSDPA), uses Gray‐mapped constellations and is based on suboptimal accumulation of the reliability metrics generated in each of the transmissions. We present an exact model for the logarithmic likelihood ratios (LLR) obtained by means of the so‐called max‐log approximation, and we show that their conditional probability density functions (pdf) are piecewise Gaussian. We then present the derivation of the uncoded BER and illustrate it with simulation results that confirm our formulation. Finally, we propose simplifications which significantly reduce the complexity of the evaluation method and provide results with a very good accuracy; an extension to transmissions over faded channel is also presented. The production of syngas from biogas (surrogate of CH4/CO2: 55/45 v/v) and polyethylene in a porous media combustion reactor is experimentally studied. The employed setup is novel and has not been studied before. A semi-continuous feed of solid fuel and a constant filtration velocity of the gaseous reactants of 17 cm/s were considered. Temperature, velocity of propagation, and composition of the syngas produced in the combustion waves were registered in a tubular reactor packed with a ceramic foam porous medium and two solid fuel inlets. In the first part of the study, a baseline determined by the filtration combustion of a biogas/air mixture through the ceramic foam at the equivalence ratio (?) range 0.7?1.6, having transient (upstream and downstream) and stationary combustion wave propagation regimes, is established. In the second part of this work, portions of the ceramic foam in two different separated zones are extracted, leaving space for the semi-continuous supply of polyethylene. In this second part the biogas-air combustion was performed only for ?=0.8 and ?=1.6. Although the combustion temperature decreased by the presence of polyethylene, it was found that the syngas (both H2 and CO) yield was larger than for the baseline. The highest degrees of conversion to hydrogen and carbon monoxide was reached under the presence of polyethylene, having 45% and 67% for ?=0.8, and 45% and 60% for ?=1.6, respectively. These results are very promising and they demonstrate the capabilities of the presented methodology and experimental setup, which should encourage future attempts of applications of the technology.  相似文献

The evaluation of heat transfer and pressure drop in a water flow inside an annulus of a double concentric-tube heat exchanger with spiral wires inserts was carried out. Three spiral wires with a constant pitch and different wire diameter were tested for a Reynolds number from 1500 to 5500 and a Prandtl number from 5 to 8. The results obtained showed that the spiral wires increased the heat transfer and the pressure drop in comparison with a fluid flow inside a smooth annulus. From the heat transfer point of view, this increase was proportional to the wire diameter but the effect decreases when the Reynolds number increases. General empirical correlations based on dimensionless parameters to calculate the convective heat transfer coefficient and friction factor were developed with an uncertainty of ±6.1% and ±7.6%, respectively, when these estimates were compared against experimental data. The empirical correlations developed were also compared with the estimates calculated by empirical correlations proposed by other researchers, resulting in a good agreement with these values. After the validation analysis, it was demonstrated that the new equations developed provide a good and reliable tool for the design of double concentric-tube heat exchangers with spiral wires inserted inside annulus.  相似文献

Lactococcus lactis is a culture widely used in salt-containing dairy products. Salt hinders bacterial growth, but exposure to environmental stress may protect cells against subsequent stress, including salt. The objective of this study was to evaluate the salt tolerance of L. lactis R-604 after exposure to various stresses. The culture was subjected to 10% (vol/vol) ethanol for 30 min, mild heat at 52°C for 30 min, 15 mM hydrogen peroxide for 30 min, or UV light (254 nm) for 5 min and compared with a control. Starting with 5 log cfu/mL for all treatments, growth was determined in M17 broth with 5 NaCl concentrations (0, 1, 3, 5, and 7% wt/vol). Plating was conducted daily for 5 d. Salt tolerance was enhanced with mild heat exposure before growth in M17 broth with 5% (wt/vol) NaCl on d 3, 4, and 5, and with exposure to hydrogen peroxide and ethanol stresses before growth in M17 broth with 5% (wt/vol) NaCl on d 4 and 5. Exposure of this culture to mild heat, hydrogen peroxide, or ethanol before growth in M17 broth containing 5% (wt/vol) salt can enhance its survival, which could be beneficial when using it in salt-containing dairy products.  相似文献

This paper presents a comparative study of several speed estimators to implement a sensorless speed control loop in Wind Energy Generation Systems driven by power factor correction three-phase boost rectifiers. This rectifier topology reduces the low frequency harmonics contents of the generator currents and, consequently, the generator power factor approaches unity whereas undesired vibrations of the mechanical system decrease. For implementation of the speed estimators, the compared techniques start from the measurement of electrical variables like currents and voltages, which contain low frequency harmonics of the fundamental frequency of the wind generator, as well as switching frequency components due to the boost rectifier. In this noisy environment it has been analyzed the performance of the following estimation techniques: Synchronous Reference Frame Phase Locked Loop, speed reconstruction by measuring the dc current and voltage of the rectifier and speed estimation by means of both an Extended Kalman Filter and a Linear Kalman Filter.  相似文献

Abstract

The interaction Hamiltonian for the absorption of a u.v. photon by a dissociating fragment has been formulated within the framework of a second quantization, by means of transition operators. The master equation and the moments have been determined using some approximations. The time variation of the u.v. photon number provides information about the stimulated emission of u.v. photons. The equation of motion for diagonal matrix elements of the reduced-density operator has been solved using Laplace and Zubairy methods. The latter procedure has been extended for the case of unimolecular multiphoton dissociation on the assumption that the system does not show any relaxation. The Zubairy distribution function permits the study of the time variation of u.v. photons absorbed by a polyatomic fragment, which has been studied experimentally. The second-order degree of coherence and the variance have been determined assuming that the i.r. distribution is initially coherent and the u.v. is chaotic. The i.r. distribution shows an antibunching effect.  相似文献

Novel mechanical resonators based on micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) technology were developed for the study of superfluid 4He. The MEMS device is composed of two parallel plates, the movable plate suspended by four serpentine springs above the substrate, forming a shear mechanical oscillator. A specific device with a 1.25 μm gap was tested in the superfluid phase of 4He. At temperatures below 400 mK the device exhibits nonlinear and hysteretic behavior when the excitation exceeds a threshold. The anomalies are reminiscent of quantum turbulence and vorticity effects observed in other mechanical oscillators such as tuning forks or vibrating grids.  相似文献
