We have shown that murine contact photosensitivity (CPS) to 3,3',4',5-tetrachlorosalicylanilide (TCSA) is genetically controlled mainly by the major histocompatibility complex. The H-2b,d haplotypes are closely associated with high responders, whereas mice with the H-2k are non-responders. Irrespective of their H-2 haplotypes, the C57BL/10 (B10) background strains, including B10, B10.D2, B10.A, and B10.BR, possessing black fur color, were low or nonresponders in CPS to TCSA. In B10 mice, however, high-sensitivity responses were induced when subcutaneous inoculation of epidermal cells (ECs) photomodified in vitro with TCSA was used for both immunization and challenge, suggesting that the epicutaneous route for induction and elicitation is defective in B10 background mice. F1 mice obtained by crossing high-responder BALB/c and low-responder B10 mice, possessing agouti fur color, were non-responders of CPS. The magnitude of CPS in the F2 mice derived from F1 (BALB/c X B10) siblings varied from low to high. When these F2 mice were divided into five groups with regard to fur color, the magnitude of reaction was correlated with the fur color and there was inverse relationship between the magnitude of CPS and the amount of melanin pigment in earlobe ECs. Furthermore, the in vivo formation of TCSA-EC photoadducts was negatively correlated to the melanin amount in earlobes. These observations suggested that the failure in CPS of the B10 background mice stems from inability of in vivo photocoupling of TCSA to ECs, presumably due to absorption of ultraviolet radiation by melanin pigment.  相似文献

Irrigation     
This paper provides an overview of the main features of irrigation in Japan, and the issues it raises, rather than an exhaustive survey of the subject. The authors’ remarks concentrate on irrigation for rice cultivation, since irrigation for non‐paddy crops is not widely developed and claims a very minor share of the country's water resources. The main components of the water requirements of rice irrigation are identified, and then the composition and functions of farmers’ irrigation associations, or more correctly ‘land improvement districts’, are described.  相似文献

Anomalous thermal and NMR behavior has been observed in liquid 3He in contact with a single crystal of Cu(NH3)4 · SO4 · H2O, which is a magnetically one-dimensional substance. In the presence of a temperature gradient in the vertical direction and parallel to the crystal surface, the temperature of the system and the 3He NMR signal change abruptly at a temperature just above the antiferromagnetic transition temperature of the salt (0·43 K). From the experimental results it is suggested that at the onset of the anomaly the spin-lattice relaxation time of 3He is reduced and a flow is induced in liquid 3He near the surface of the crystal.This work was supported by a Research Grant of the Iwatani Naoji Foundation and a Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (Japan).  相似文献

With the aim of constructing an efficient protein display system for lactic acid bacteria (LABs), the effect of fusion direction on the cell-surface binding activity of the C-terminal region of the peptidoglycan hydrolase (CPH) of Lactococcus lactis IL1403 was studied. CPH fused to the alpha-amylase (AMY) of Streptococcus bovis 148 either at its C-terminus (CPH-AMY) or at its N-terminus (AMY-CPH) was expressed intracellularly in Escherichia coli. This domain was able to direct binding of AMY to the surface of L. lactis ATCC 19435 in both constructs. However, the number of bound molecules per cell and the specific activity for starch digestion in the case of CPH-AMY were 3 and 14 times greater than those in the case of AMY-CPH, respectively. Of the LABs tested, L. lactis ATCC 19435 showed the highest binding capability for CPH-AMY, up to 6 x 10(4) molecules per cell, with a dissociation rate constant of 5.00 x 10(-5) s(-1). The binding of CPH-AMY to the surface of Lactobacillus delbrueckii ATCC 9649 cells was very stable with a dissociation rate constant of 6.96 x 10(-6) s(-1). The production of CPH-AMY in the soluble form increased 3-fold as a result of coexpression with a molecular chaperone, trigger factor. The results of this study suggest the usefulness of CPH as a bidirectional anchor protein for the production of cell-surface adhesive enzymes in E. coli. Furthermore, the importance of the fusion direction of CPH in determining cell-surface binding and enzymatic activities was shown.  相似文献

This paper presents semi-empirical investigations on the quasi-steady burning rates of laminar and turbulent fire whirls established over liquid fuel pools. The inflow boundary layer above the fuel surface consists of two regions: outer reactive region and inner non-reactive region. Based on the momentum boundary layer solutions with the applications of stagnant film model and Chilton–Colburn analogy, the burning rates are correlated with ambient circulation and pool size for laminar and turbulent fire whirls respectively. It is shown that in general pool fires the mass and heat transfers on the fuel surface are controlled by natural convection, while in fire whirls they are strongly enhanced by forced convection. Fuel evaporation rate in the outer region is relatively larger than that in the inner region. The large proportion of fuel evaporated from the outer region is mainly due to its larger area. The predictions agree well with the data from the present experiments and the literature. Furthermore, the flame height is confirmed to be proportional to the ambient circulation for both laminar and turbulent liquid fire whirls.  相似文献

Annealed Zn1−xMgxO/Cu(In,Ga)Se2 (CIGS) interfaces have been characterized by ultraviolet light excited time-resolved photoluminescence (TRPL). The TRPL lifetime of the Zn1−xMgxO/CIGS film increased on increasing the annealing temperature to 250 °C, whereas the TRPL lifetime of the CdS/CIGS film had little change by annealing at temperatures lower than 200 °C. This is attributed to the recovery of physical damages by annealing, induced by sputtering of the Zn1−xMgxO film. The TRPL lifetime abruptly decreased with annealing at 300 °C. The diffusion of excess Zn from the Zn1−xMgxO film into the CIGS interface is clearly observed in secondary ion mass spectroscopy (SIMS) depth profiles. These results indicate that excess Zn at the vicinity of the CIGS surface acts as non-radiative centers at the interface. The TRPL lifetime of the Zn1−xMgxO/CIGS film annealed at 250 °C reached values to be comparable to that of the as-deposited CdS/CIGS film. Performance of the Zn1−xMgxO/CIGS cells varied with the annealing temperature in the same manner as the TRPL lifetime. The highest efficiency of the Zn1−xMgxO/CIGS solar cells was achieved for annealing at 250 °C. The results of the TRPL lifetime on annealing show that the cell efficiency is strongly influenced by the Zn1−xMgxO/CIGS interface states related to the damages and diffusion of Zn.  相似文献

Juice and integument of leaves of 3 Aloe species, Aloe vera, A. ferox and A. africana, are not allowed to be used as food according to the Pharmaceutical Affairs Law in Japan. On the other hand, whole leaves of A. arborescens can be used as food. The present study was designed to distinguish Aloe species by random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) analysis. DNA was isolated from fresh and dried leaves of the 4 Aloe species. Five out of 32 different 10-mer primers examined were useful for analysis. By comparison of the characteristic bands of PCR products on agarose gel, it was possible to distinguish the 4 species. Thus, the botanical species of Aloe in commercial food products can be identified by RAPD analysis.  相似文献
