The maximum measurable range of a spectral interference microscope depends on the coherence length of the light transmitted by its tunable spectral filter. To achieve a large range in step-height measurement we have developed a new tunable spectral filter that uses tandem liquid-crystal Fabry-Perot interferometers (LC-FPIs), which can simultaneously attain both a high spectral resolution and a large tuning range. Fringe visibility measurements were carried out, and it was found that the coherence length of the light transmitted through tandem LC-FPIs is two times larger than that transmitted through a single LC-FPI. Using this novel tunable spectral filter, we developed a new spectral interference microscope for the measurement of three-dimensional shapes of discontinuous objects. Experimental results of step-height measurements both with a single LC-FPI and with tandem LC-FPIs are presented for a combination of standard steel gauge block sets with 1-, 99-, and 100-microm steps. A large range (1-100 microm) of measurement with submicrometer resolution was achieved with tandem LC-FPIs that was not possible with our previous system in which a single LC-FPI was used. 相似文献

A nonmechanical scanning Mirau-type spectral interference microscope has been developed for the measurement of three-dimensional surface profiles of discontinuous objects. An acousto-optic tunable filter (AOTF) is used as a high-resolution spectral filter, which scans the optical frequency of the broadband light emitted from a superluminescent diode. To generate spectral fringes that make full use of the limited coherence length of the filtered light we unbalanced the Mirau interferometric system by positioning the reference mirror nearly halfway between the top and the bottom of the step height. When the frequency of the broadband light source is scanned by an AOTF, the interference fringes move in opposite directions on the top and the bottom of the object. To uniquely determine the sign of the fringe movement over the large area of the object, we developed a three-dimensional Fourier-transform technique, and from the detected sign of the fringe movement and phase information, we determined the three-dimensional step height. Experimental results of the measurement of 100-microm step height are presented. The main advantages of the proposed system are that it provides nonmechanical scanning and a large measurement range without ambiguity in the sign of the phase. 相似文献

We surgically retrieved two cobalt(Co)–chromium(Cr)–molybdenum(Mo) and five titanium(Ti)–aluminum(Al)–vanadium(V) alloy knee prostheses from patients because of mechanical failure and pain. We examined the distribution of the small particles which were released from the Co–Cr–Mo and Ti–Al–V alloys using a backscattered scanning electron microscopy (SEM). In addition we analyzed the metals in the artificial knee joints and the tissues adjacent to them using energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). We demonstrated that a myriad of fine particles, produced by the abrasion of both Co–Cr–Mo and Ti–Al–V alloys, accumulated in the synovial cells. As Co–Cr–Mo alloys disintegrate easily in the cells, Co dissolves from the peripheral areas of them, although Cr remains within the cells. In contrast Ti–Al–V alloys are very stable in the synovial cells. From these findings we conclude that the Co–Cr–Mo alloys are hazardous to the body as the alloys release Co which enters the body. In contrast the Ti–Al–V alloys are very stable and are patently safer. Artificial joints, however, are still in considerable need of improvement. 相似文献

We have recently identified the resonant scattering from dielectric bispheres in the specular direction, which has long been known as the specular resonance, to be a type of rainbow (a caustic) and a general phenomenon for bispheres. We discuss the details of the specular resonance on the basis of systematic calculations. In addition to the rigorous theory, which precisely describes the scattering even in the resonance regime, the ray-tracing method, which gives the scattering in the geometrical-optics limit, is used. Specular resonance is explicitly defined as strong scattering in the direction of the specular reflection from the symmetrical axis of the bisphere whose intensity exceeds that of the scattering from noninteracting bispheres. Then the range of parameters for computing a particular specular resonance is specified. This resonance becomes prominent in a wide range of refractive indices (from 1.2 to 2.2) in a wide range of size parameters (from five to infinity) and for an arbitrarily polarized light incident within an angle of 40 degrees to the symmetrical axis. This particular scattering can stay evident even when the spheres are not in contact or the sizes of the spheres are different. Thus specular resonance is a common and robust phenomenon in dielectric bispheres. Furthermore, we demonstrate that various characteristic features in the scattering from bispheres can be explained successfully by using intuitive and simple representations. Most of the significant scatterings other than the specular resonance are also understandable as caustics in geometrical-optics theory. The specular resonance becomes striking at the smallest size parameter among these caustics because its optical trajectory is composed of only the refractions at the surfaces and has an exceptionally large intensity. However, some characteristics are not accounted for by geometrical optics. Electronic devices and their highly integrated components formed from semiconductor crystals contain complex three-dimensional (3D) arrangements of elements and wiring. Photonic crystals, being analogous to semiconductor crystals, are expected to require a 3D structure to form successful optoelectronic devices. Here, we report a novel fabrication technology for a semiconductor 3D photonic crystal by uniting integrated circuit processing technology with micromanipulation. Four- to twenty-layered (five periods) crystals, including one with a controlled defect, for infrared wavelengths of 3-4.5 microm, were integrated at predetermined positions on a chip (structural error <50 nm). Numerical calculations revealed that a transmission peak observed at the upper frequency edge of the bandgap originated from the excitation of a resonant guided mode in the defective layers. Despite their importance, detailed discussions on the defective modes of 3D photonic crystals for such short wavelengths have not been reported before. This technology offers great potential for the production of optical wavelength photonic crystal devices. 相似文献

K2NiF4-type CaLnCoO4 (Ln = Sm and Gd) has been synthesized at 1173 or 1223 K in air using citric acid (CA) and ethylene glycol (EG). CaLnCoO4 (Ln = Sm and Gd) has an orthorhombic structure with the space group Bmab. The average particle sizes are approximately 300 nm for CaSmCoO4 and approximately 170 nm for CaGdCoO4, respectively. The global instability index (GII) indicates that the crystal structure of CaGdCoO4 is more stable than that of CaSmCoO4. CaLnCoO4 (Ln = Sm and Gd) is a p-type semiconductor and shows paramagnetic behavior above 5 K. The 1/χ-T curve of CaSmCoO4 deviates from the Curie-Weiss law, whereas the 1/χ-T curve of CaGdCoO4 follows the Curie-Weiss law in the temperature range of 5 ≤ T ≤ 300 K. From the values of the observed effective magnetic moment (μeff) of CaLnCoO4 (Ln = Sm and Gd), it is considered that the spin state of the Co3+ ion is low. 相似文献

The Tensor Product (TP) model transformation method was proposed recently as an automated gateway between a class of non‐linear models and linear matrix inequality based control design. The core of the TP model transformation is the higher order singular value decomposition of a large sized tensor, which requires high computational power that is usually outside of a regular computer capacity in cases of higher dimensionality. This disadvantage restricts the utilization of the TP model transformation to models having smaller dimensionality. The aim of this paper is to propose a computationally relaxed version of the TP model transformation. Theoretical analysis of potential distribution in the interdigital-gated high electron mobility transistor (HEMT) plasma wave device was carried out. The dc I–V characteristics of capacitively coupled interdigital structure showed that uniformity of electric field under the interdigital gates was improved compared to the dc-connected interdigital gate structure. Admittance measurements of capacitively coupled interdigital gate structure in the microwave region of 10–40 GHz showed the conductance modulation by drain–source voltage.
