Commercial PET films were surface treated and subsequently coated with either rosemary (RME) or clove (CE) extracts. Surface treatments involved (1) corona treatment, (2) chemical modification, and (3) plasma treatment. Radical scavenging activity (RSA) of both pure plant extracts and coated film extracts were determined using the 1,1‐diphenyl‐2‐picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) method. RME‐coated films showed a % RSA of 25.6%, 22.4%, and 24.1% for plasma, chemical modification, and corona treatment, respectively, at an extract concentration of 1402 ppm, respectively, while pure RME showed a %RSA of 16.0%. Respective %RSA values for CE were 25.0% for plasma, 25.2% for chemically modified, and 25.2% for corona‐treated films at 1402 ppm, while pure CE showed a %RSA of 47.6%. Thiobarbituric acid (TBA) test, performed on ground fish muscle wrapped in all types of employed films, showed a remarkable decrease in the degree of fish oxidation ranging between 50.0 and 80.0% after 6 days of storage. Contact angle measurements confirmed that surface chemically modified films had the highest adhesion strength followed by corona and plasma‐treated films. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) data also supported contact angle measurements. Finally, the oxygen permeability of surface‐treated films did not differ from untreated films indicating that surface treatment did not affect film barrier properties.  相似文献

Rockbursting in deep tunnelling is a complex phenomenon posing significant challenges both at the design and construction stages of an underground excavation within hard rock masses and under high in situ stresses. While local experience, field monitoring, and informed data-rich analysis are some of the tools commonly used to manage the hazards and the associated risks, advanced numerical techniques based on discontinuum modelling have also shown potential in assisting in the assessment of rockbursting. In this study, the hybrid finite-discrete element method (FDEM) is employed to investigate the failure and fracturing processes, and the mechanisms of energy storage and rapid release resulting in bursting, as well as to assess its utility as part of the design process of underground excavations. Following the calibration of the numerical model to simulate a deep excavation in a hard, massive rock mass, discrete fracture network (DFN) geometries are integrated into the model in order to examine the impact of rock structure on rockbursting under high in situ stresses. The obtained analysis results not only highlight the importance of explicitly simulating pre-existing joints within the model, as they affect the mobilised failure mechanisms and the intensity of strain bursting phenomena, but also show how the employed joint network geometry, the field stress conditions, and their interaction influence the extent and depth of the excavation induced damage. Furthermore, a rigorous analysis of the mass and velocity of the ejected rock blocks and comparison of the obtained data with well-established semi-empirical approaches demonstrate the potential of the method to provide realistic estimates of the kinetic energy released during bursting for determining the energy support demand.  相似文献

We introduce a novel molecular junction based on a thiol-functionalized porphyrin derivative with two almost energetically degenerate equilibrium configurations. We show that each equilibrium structure defines a pathway of maximal electric charge transfer through the molecular junction and that these two conduction pathways are spatially orthogonal. We further demonstrate computationally how to switch between the two equilibrium structures of the compound by coherent light. The optical switching mechanism is presented in the relevant configuration subspace of the compound, and the corresponding potential and electric dipole surfaces are obtained by ab initio methods. The laser-induced isomerization takes place in two steps in tandem, while each step is induced by a two-photon process. The effect of metallic electrodes on the electromagnetic irradiation driving the optical switching is also investigated. Our study demonstrates the potential for using thiol-functionalized porphyrin derivatives for the development of a light-controlled nanoscale current router.  相似文献

Digital photographs of construction site activities are gradually replacing their traditional paper based counterparts. Existing digital imaging technologies in hardware and software make it easy for site engineers to take numerous photographs of “interesting” processes and activities on a daily basis. The resulting photographic data are evidence of the “as-built” project, and can therefore be used in a number of project life cycle tasks. However, the task of retrieving the relevant photographs needed in these tasks is often burdened by the sheer volume of photographs accumulating in project databases over time and the numerous objects present in each photograph. To solve this problem, the writers have recently developed a number of complementary techniques that can automatically classify and retrieve construction site images according to a variety of criteria (materials, time, date, location, etc.). This paper presents a novel complementary technique that can automatically identify linear (i.e., beam, column) and nonlinear (i.e., wall, slab) construction objects within the image content and use that information to enhance the performance of the writers’ existing construction site image retrieval approach.  相似文献

One of the major challenges that mobile operators (MOs) are faced with nowadays is the transition to 4th Generation (4G) mobile communication technologies. The main reason for this lies on the reluctance of MOs to invest in a new technology without being sure about its success. The current paper investigates the decision-making procedures of a MO that wishes to migrate from its current technology type to 4G. Traditionally, the decision of deploying a new technology has been based on the analysis of similar implementations in other countries. However, such approaches can be inefficient and time consuming, as there are discrepancies concerning the technological progress among different countries. To this end, the authors employ evolutionary game theory to model the interactions of the MO’s decisions and the subscribers’ needs, and propose a practical and efficient qualitative model that identifies the circumstances under which the transition towards 4G networking can be facilitated. Specifically, the mathematical foundation of the decision making process is provided and the key role of the charging price and the quality of experience by the subscribers for using 4G connectivity is proven. With the process of 4G deployment still ongoing, this paper aims to present an analysis that can be used supplementary to the decision process of a MO that aims to evolve his network.  相似文献

We have developed a novel method to measure human cardiac pulse at a distance. It is based on the information contained in the thermal signal emitted from major superficial vessels. This signal is acquired through a highly sensitive thermal imaging system. Temperature on the vessel is modulated by pulsative blood flow. To compute the frequency of modulation (pulse), we extract a line-based region along the vessel. Then, we apply fast Fourier transform (FFT) to individual points along this line of interest to capitalize on the pulse's thermal propagation effect. Finally, we use an adaptive estimation function on the average FFT outcome to quantify the pulse. We have carried out experiments on a data set of 34 subjects and compared the pulse computed from our thermal signal analysis method to concomitant ground-truth measurements obtained through a standard contact sensor (piezo-electric transducer). The performance of the new method ranges from 88.52% to 90.33% depending on the clarity of the vessel's thermal imprint. To the best of our knowledge, it is the first time that cardiac pulse has been measured several feet away from a subject with passive means.  相似文献

The primer extension (PEXT) reaction is the most widely used approach to genotyping of single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). Current methods for analysis of PEXT reaction products are based on electrophoresis, fluorescence resonance energy transfer, fluorescence polarization, pyrosequencing, mass spectrometry, microarrays, and spectrally encoded microspheres. We report the first dry-reagent dipstick method that enables rapid visual detection of PEXT products without instrumentation. The method is applied to the analysis of six SNPs in the mannose-binding lectin gene (MBL2). The genomic region that spans each SNP of interest is amplified by PCR. Two primer extension reactions are performed with allele-specific primers (for one or the other variant nucleotide), which contain an oligo(dA) segment at the 5'-end. Biotin-dUTP is incorporated in the extended strand. The product is applied to the strip followed by immersion in the appropriate buffer. As the DNA moves along the strip by capillary action, it hybridizes with oligo(dT)-functionalized gold nanoparticles, such that only extended products are captured by immobilized streptavidin at the test zone, generating a red line. A second red line is formed at the control zone of the strip by hybridization of the nanoparticles with immobilized oligo(dA). The dipstick test is complete within 10 min. We analyzed six SNPs of the mannose-binding lectin gene (MBL2) using genomic DNA from 27 patients, representing a total of 74 variant nucleotide positions. Patient genotypes showed 100% concordance with direct DNA sequencing data. The described PEXT-dipstick assay is rapid and highly accurate; it does not require specialized instrumentation or highly trained technical personnel. It is appropriate for a diagnostic laboratory where a few selected SNP markers are examined per patient with a low cost per assay.  相似文献

The resonant properties of a closed and symmetric cyclic array of N coupled microring resonators (coupled-microring resonator regular N-gon) are for the first time determined analytically by applying the transfer matrix approach and Floquet theorem for periodic propagation in cylindrically symmetric structures. By solving the corresponding eigenvalue problem with the field amplitudes in the rings as eigenvectors, it is shown that, for even or odd N, this photonic molecule possesses 1 + N/2 or 1+N resonant frequencies, respectively. The condition for resonances is found to be identical to the familiar dispersion equation of the infinite coupled-microring resonator waveguide with a discrete wave vector. This result reveals the so far latent connection between the two optical structures and is based on the fact that, for a regular polygon, the field transfer matrix over two successive rings is independent of the polygon vertex angle. The properties of the resonant modes are discussed in detail using the illustration of Brillouin band diagrams. Finally, the practical application of a channel-dropping filter based on polygons with an even number of rings is also analyzed.  相似文献
