BACKGROUND: Patients with non-ulcer dyspepsia (NUD) responding to treatment with H2-receptor antagonists have no clinically useful characteristics. This trial compares the gastro-oesophageal reflux pattern as measured by 24-h oesophageal pH monitoring in patients responding to ranitidine with that of non-responders. METHODS: Thirty-one patients with NUD were randomized to 6 weeks' double-blind alternating treatment with 150 mg ranitidine twice daily or placebo and classified as responders or non-responders. RESULTS: Pathologic gastro-oesophageal reflux was seen in 3 of the 13 responders and 4 of the 18 no-responders (NS). The responders had frequent short reflux episodes (< 1 min in duration). When 4 patients with > or = 5 reflux episodes longer than 5 min were excluded, the number of short reflux episodes (median) in responders and non-responders was 32 and 14, respectively. The difference is statistically significant (p = 0.025). There were no other differences between the groups. CONCLUSIONS: In this study patients with NUD responding to ranitidine were characterized by frequent short reflux episodes in the absence of numerous long reflux episodes.  相似文献

Amounts consumed of 4 foods were recorded for each child in nursery school. 10 children were randomly selected for repeated sessions of verbal conditioning, which occurred shortly before snack time, and consisted of reinforcing the verbal behavior (food term) denoting the food selected for manipulation. The data give evidence that when positive reinforcement is associated with the verbal response denoting a food, then the consumption of that food increases. Conceptually, food can be considered a stimulus that sets up a class of responses, including verbal and eating responses. If the verbal response in that class is reinforced, hence strengthened, then the other responses of that class will be strengthened as well. The “Petlyuk” or “dividing-wall” or “fully thermally coupled” distillation column is an interesting alternative to the conventional cascaded binary columns for separation of multi-component mixtures. However, the industrial use has been limited, and difficulties in operation have been reported as one reason. With three product compositions controlled, the system has two degrees of freedom left for on-line optimization. We show that the steady-state optimal solution surface is quite narrow, and depends strongly on disturbances and design parameters. Thus it seems difficult to achieve the potential energy savings compared to conventional approaches without a good control strategy. We discuss candidate variables which may be used as feedback variables in order to keep the column operation close to optimal in a “self-optimizing” control scheme.  相似文献

While it is well‐established that ionic conduction in lithium aluminosilicates proceeds via hopping of Li ions, the nature of the various hoping‐based mechanisms in different temperature regimes has not been fully elucidated. The difficulties associated with investigating the conduction have to do with the presence of grains and grain boundaries of different orientations in these usually polycrystalline materials. Herein, we use electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) to investigate the ion conduction mechanisms in β‐eucryptite, which is a prototypical lithium aluminosilicate. In the absence of significant structural transitions in grain boundaries, we find that there are three conduction regimes for the one‐dimensional ionic motion along the c axis channels in the grains, and determine the activation energies for each of these temperature regimes. Activation energies computed from molecular statics calculations of the potential energy landscape encountered by Li ions suggest that at temperatures below 440°C conduction proceeds via cooperative or correlated motion, in agreement with established literature. Between 440°C and 500°C, the activation barriers extracted from EIS measurements are large and consistent with those from atomistic calculations for uncorrelated Li ion hopping. Above 500°C the activation barriers decrease significantly, which indicates that after the transition to the Li‐disordered phase of β‐eucryptite, the Li ion motion largely regains the correlated character.  相似文献

Dry matter (DM) production and nutritional quality of plants were recorded on an old meadow before, during and after it was grazed by reindeer (Rangifer tarandus tarandus; 15 reindeer ha−1) in the spring of 1996 and 1997 in northern Norway. Mean herbage harvest after 54 and 50 days of growth including 25 and 24 days of reindeer grazing was 1217 ± 320 kg DM ha−1 in 1996 and 2297 ± 495 kg DM ha−1 in 1997 respectively. On ungrazed old meadow, in contrast (P < 0.05), mean herbage harvest after 54 and 50 days of growth was 4159 ± 1164 kg DM ha−1 in 1996 and 3791 ± 275 kg DM ha−1 in 1997 respectively. In 1997, mean herbage harvest after 50 days of growth including 7 days of grazing by reindeer was as high as 3441 ± 180 kg DM ha−1 (P > 0.05). Crude protein content (% of DM) was 25% early in the growing season in both 1996 and 1997. After 54 and 50 days of growth including 25 and 24 days of reindeer grazing, crude protein content was about 17% of DM in both 1996 and 1997 respectively, compared with about 12% of DM in ungrazed old meadow in both years. In 1997, crude protein content was 13.3% of DM after 50 days of growth including 7 days of reindeer grazing. The grazed and ungrazed old meadow contained about 20% (of DM) water‐soluble carbohydrates throughout the summer in both years. Mean plant cell wall content in ungrazed plants harvested after about 50 days was higher (51.5 and 49.1% of DM; P > 0.05) compared with plant cell wall content in grazed meadow (49.0 and 46.4% of DM) in 1996 and 1997 respectively. In vitro dry matter digestibility (%) of herbage harvest using rumen fluid from domestic ruminants was about 10% higher (73.4 ± 0.30 and 75.7 ± 0.28) in samples from grazed meadow compared with ungrazed meadow (66.2 ± 0.93 and 65.4 ± 1.19) in 1996 and 1997 respectively. Reindeer grazing of old meadow in spring maintains the vegetation at a younger phenological stage during the growing season when compared with ungrazed meadow. Therefore grazing increased the quality of the herbage, but decreased herbage harvest under conditions of high grazing intensity. © 2000 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

A continuous process for treatment of dairy wastewater with immobilized lactic acid bacteria has been demonstrated at pilot scale. A strain of Lactobacillus plantarum was selected on the basis of a high conversion rate of lactose at low pH, a high affinity of lactose at low concentrations, and the ability to retain activity for a long time immobilized in alginate beads. Lactose was converted to lactic acid, which lowered the pH and precipitated milk proteins. The proteins were separated together with milk fat by flotation with carboxy methyl cellulose (CMC) or chitosan and gave a solid phase of approx. 10% dry matter (23% protein and 68% fat). The total chemical oxygen demand (CODt) removed varied from 65 to 78% for CMC and 49 to 82% for chitosan. The precipitated material was used as a feed supplement for pigs to provide up to 30% of the total energy intake. No adverse effects on the pig's performance were observed. By means of a Gleeble machine, the flow stress at steady-state creep in an AA3103 aluminium alloy has been measured for temperatures and strain rates relevant for thermally induced deformations in DC casting. The strain rate has been determined by measuring the global radial strain rate at the specimen center by an extensometer, and the stress has been set equal to the force in the axial direction divided by the cross-section area. The parameters of Garofalo's equation have been fitted to the resulting steady-state stress and strain rate. Such a method is based upon the assumption of homogeneous stress and strain rate fields. In the Gleeble machine, the specimens are heated by the Joule effect leading to axial temperature gradients, and the specimen geometry is noncylindrical. The resulting inhomogeneities in the stress and strain rate fields are studied by finite element modeling, and it is shown that although they can be significant, the global radial strain rate and the axial force divided by the cross-section area at the specimen center can be relatively close to what the respective strain rate and stress values would have been if the conditions actually were homogeneous.  相似文献

The sintering kinetics of a pure magnesium aluminate spinel, MgAl2O4, and that doped with LiF were determined through the use of the master sintering curve technique developed by Su and Johnson. 20 Powders with 0%, 0.5%, and 1.0% by mass LiF were densified in a vacuum hot press under a range of unaxial pressures. After the sintering mechanisms in each temperature and pressure regime were determined, an optimized vacuum hot-pressing schedule was formulated for spinel powders doped with 1.0% by mass of LiF. In addition to forming a transient liquid phase, the presence of LiF leads to the formation of oxygen vacancies that promote late-stage sintering in MgAl2O4.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Solid petroleum asphaltenes have been fractionated according to solubility in toluene/n-heptane mixtures of increasing toluene content. A large hysteresis was observed between this dissolution and the precipitation from the crude oil. In order to shed light on the solution mechanism, the fractions obtained have been analyzed using size exclusion chromatography (SEC-HPLC-UV-vis), VPO, elemental analysis, UV-vis adsorption spectroscopy and phenol interaction values and methylene content by FTir. Less polar non-associating low molecular weight species are dissolved and a specific extraction of porphyrins is observed. An increased association in the insolubles is indicated. More basic interaction sites are available on the asphaltenes in both fractions relative to the native asphaltene. From the SEC chromatograms it was seen that the soluble fractions did not associate as the insoluble fractions even when making up more than 60 % of the total asphaltenes.  相似文献
