Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the main cause of mortality in hemodialysis (HD) patients. Epicardial fat tissue (EFT) is a new risk factor in CVD. The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between EFT and coronary artery flow reserve (CFR), which is an early indicator of endothelial dysfunction in coronary vessels of HD patients. We performed a cross‐sectional study including 71 chronic HD patients and 65 age‐ and sex‐matched healthy controls. Epicardial fat tissue was significantly higher in HD patients when compared to healthy controls (6.53 ± 1.01 mm vs. 5.79 ± 1.06 mm, respectively, P < 0.001). On transthoracic Doppler echocardiography, CFR values were significantly lower in HD patients when compared to healthy controls (1.73 ± 0.11 vs. 2.32 ± 0.28, P < 0.001). Correlation analysis showed CFR values to be inversely correlated with EFT (r = ?0.287, P < 0.05). Multiple linear regression analysis was used to define independent determinants of EFT in HD patients. Artery flow reserve, age, body mass index and total cholesterol levels were independently correlated with EFT thickness. This study demonstrated that EFT was significantly higher among HD patients compared to healthy controls. In addition, this study was the first to demonstrate an inverse correlation between EFT and CFR in this patient population. 相似文献

Transcatheter embolization is a minimally invasive procedure that uses embolic agents to intentionally block diseased or injured blood vessels for therapeutic purposes. Embolic agents in clinical practice are limited by recanalization, risk of non-target embolization, failure in coagulopathic patients, high cost, and toxicity. Here, a decellularized cardiac extracellular matrix (ECM)-based nanocomposite hydrogel is developed to provide superior mechanical stability, catheter injectability, retrievability, antibacterial properties, and biological activity to prevent recanalization. The embolic efficacy of the shear-thinning ECM-based hydrogel is shown in a porcine survival model of embolization in the iliac artery and the renal artery. The ECM-based hydrogel promotes arterial vessel wall remodeling and a fibroinflammatory response while undergoing significant biodegradation such that only 25% of the embolic material remains at 14 days. With its unprecedented proregenerative, antibacterial properties coupled with favorable mechanical properties, and its superior performance in anticoagulated blood, the ECM-based hydrogel has the potential to be a next-generation biofunctional embolic agent that can successfully treat a wide range of vascular diseases. 相似文献

In a previous work we introduced a new family of thermoset composites of softwood fiber and allylglycidyl ether modified potato starch (AGE-starch with a degree of substitution of 1.3 and 2.3) prepared by hot pressing. To improve the processability of AGE-starch with a DS = 1.3 (LDS-3) and to increase hygromechanical properties, the LDS-3 matrix has now been partially degraded by α-amylase at 45 °C (pH 6) for 0.5, 6 and 18 h. The study shows that already a 30 min enzymatic hydrolysis has a marked effect on the modified starch molecular weight and its thermal properties. The new composites with enzyme hydrolyzed AGE-starch, generically named D-LDS-3, showed good fiber dispersion and excellent interface between the fiber and matrix as studied by SEM. Premixes of D-LDS-3 matrix and fiber showed improved processability. The water vapor absorption was evaluated at 43.2% and 82.2% RH and the stiffness and strength properties were measured. The water uptake was shown to be reduced. The strength of neat matrix D-LDS-3-6 at ambient 68% RH reached 63 MPa and Young’s modulus 3200 MPa and with 40 wt.% wood fiber reinforcement impressive 128 MPa and 4500 MPa, respectively. 相似文献

Reduction of dead weight of a reinforced-concrete (RC) structure without too much concession in its load carrying capacity
has always been an attractive study subject because it engenders (1) a decrease in dimensions of the members, (2) a decrease
in the reinforcement steel, and (3) a decrease in lateral inertia forces during severe earthquakes. In this study, nine RC
beams of outer dimensions of 300 × 300 × 2000 mm, six of which are box beams, designed and produced using a C20 class steel
fiber concrete, (SFRC) with the commonly used steel fiber type of Dramix-RC-80/0.60-BN at a dosage of 30 kg/m3, are tested under bending. The mechanical behaviours of all these nine beams under bending are recorded from the beginning
of the test till the ultimate failure of the tensile reinforcement in a two-point beam-loading setup. The proportions of (1)
loss in ultimate load versus reduction in dead weight and (2) (ultimate experimental load)/(ultimate theoretical load) of
the SFRC box beams are determined for two different box thicknesses. Dimensionless behaviour relationships of all the SFRC
beams are determined, and the experimentally obtained relationship between the ratio of (actual ultimate load)/(theoretical

A new method for optical pH and redox measurements with a commercially available water dispersion of polyaniline (PANI) nanoparticles (mean particle size, 46 nm) is presented. The pH measurements are based on the acid-base equilibrium of PANI and were carried out either by combining both the automated sequential injection analysis (SIA) and UV-visible spectrophotometric techniques or with a fiber-optic light guide. In the former case, the detection was done in continuous mode at lambda = 800 nm by using the SIA technique for transporting the sample to a flow-through cell, which was placed in the light path of the photometer. With the fiber-optic light guide, the detection was done in batch mode at lambda = 400 and 580 nm. In both methods, fresh pH reagent (PANI) solution was used in each measurement, thus overcoming the problem with hysteresis (memory effect), which is usually observed with PANI films. The PANI nanoparticles were characterized with UV-visible spectroscopy in pH buffer solutions between pH 2-12 and a protonation constant of logK(0.5H,L)(H(0.5)L) = 4.4 was calculated from these data. Fast pH measurements can be done between pH 6 and 10.5 depending on the measuring technique. It is possible to determine pH with an accuracy of 0.1 pH unit between pH 8 and 10.5 (RSD, 0.5-2%). Redox transitions typical for PANI films were also observed for water solutions of PANI nanoparticles in the presence of the hexacyanoferrate(II/III) and the iron(II/III) oxalate redox couples. The absorbance at lambda = 875 nm is linearly dependent on the logarithm of the concentration ratio (0.1-10) of the iron oxalate redox couple. 相似文献

The thermo-electrical properties of Sn–Zn alloys have been investigated for four different compositions. The SEM micrographs and EDX analysis of the samples have been obtained. The electrical resistivity measurements were performed by using four-point probe technique in the temperature range 300 K–575 K. The resistivity of samples increases linearly with temperature and the electrical conductivity is inversely proportional to temperature. The electrical current preferentially flows through the pure Sn phase having lower resistivity in the matrix. Also, thermal conductivity of samples has been measured by using the radial heat flow method. It has been found that the thermal conductivity decreases with the increasing temperature and composition of Sn. The results were consistent with available experimental results of other studies. Finally, the temperature coefficient of electrical resistivity and the temperature coefficient of thermal conductivity have been determined, which were independent from the composition of Sn and Zn. 相似文献

Oxidative stress is accepted as a nonclassical cardiovascular risk factor in chronic renal failure patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relation between oxidative DNA damage (8‐hydroxy‐2′‐deoxyguanosine/deoxyguanosine [8‐OHdG/dG] ratio), oxidative stress biomarkers, antioxidant enzymes, and carotid artery intima‐media thickness (CIMT) in hemodialysis (HD) patients. Forty chronic HD patients without known atherosclerotic disease and 48 age‐ and sex‐matched healthy individuals were included in the study. Plasma malondialdehyde (MDA) levels and 8‐OHdG/dG ratio were determined as oxidative stress markers. Superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) activities were measured as antioxidants. CIMT was assessed by carotid artery ultrasonography. 8‐OHdG/dG ratios and MDA levels were higher; SOD and GPx activities were lower in HD patients compared to controls. HD patients had significantly higher CIMT compared to controls (0.61 ± 0.08 vs. 0.42 ± 0.05, p < 0.001). There was a significant positive correlation between CIMT and 8‐OHdG/dG ratio (r = 0.57, p < 0.01) and MDA levels (r = 0.41, p < 0.01), while there was a significant negative correlation between CIMT and SOD (r = ?0.47, p < 0.01) and GPx levels (r = ?0.62, p < 0.01). 2D triaxially braided carbon fiber composites were subjected to off-axis compression under static and low velocity impact loading. Three types of specimens with axial fiber tows at angles of 30°, 60°, and 75° to the direction of loading were studied under uniaxial compression loading using a modified compression loading fixture that has anti-buckling guides. Static tests were carried out using a hydraulically activated MTS loading frame, while, low velocity impact tests were conducted using a drop tower facility. A three parameter homogenized orthotropic plasticity model was used to characterize the inelastic response and the constants associated with this characterization were determined uniquely. Results from this characterization were subsequently used to analyze the rate dependent interfacial effects in these materials. Two types of composites made from two different resins, but with the same textile architecture were used for this study. The effect of the resin properties on the unusual rate effects exhibited by the composite is seen to be captured well with the three parameter orthotropic plasticity model adopted. 相似文献
