Polypropylene (PP)/layered silicate nanocomposites were prepared via simple melt mixing of three components, PP, layered silicates modified with octadecylamine (C18-MMT) and antioxidant, to investigate the role of antioxidant. TEM and X-ray scattering results confirmed the intercalated state of silicates in PP/layered silicate nanocomposites with antioxidant. In rheological and mechanical study, the nanocomposites with antioxidant showed higher properties than those of the unfilled PP. The nanocomposite with 5 wt% C18-MMT and 0.5 phr antioxidant exhibited about 1.4 times higher tensile modulus and 1.3 times higher storage modulus than the unfilled PP. However, PP/C18-MMT without antioxidant showed lower rheological values owing to the thermal decomposition of PP and the poor compatibility between PP and C18-MMT. It could be concluded that antioxidants played an important role in enhancing the compatibility between PP and C18-MMT. According to the real time X-ray diffraction, the nanocomposite showed the weak ordering of PP crystals than the unfilled PP in the load-extension plateau region of elongation. 相似文献

High‐performance shape‐memory polyurethane block copolymers, prepared with two types of poly(tetramethylene glycol) (PTMG) used as soft segments, were investigated for their mechanical properties. Copolymers with a random or block soft‐segment arrangement had higher stresses at break and elongations at break than those with only one kind of PTMG. Random copolymers with fewer interchain interactions showed higher elongation than block copolymers. All the copolymers had shape‐recovery ratios higher than 80%. In dynamic mechanical testing, the glass‐transition behavior clearly depended on the soft‐segment arrangement: random copolymers had only one glass‐transition peak, whereas block copolymers showed two separate glass‐transition peaks. Overall, the control of the soft‐segment arrangement plays a vital role in the development of high‐performance shape‐memory polyurethane. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This article proposes a new single optical fiber probe (OFP) sensor method for measuring local droplet parameters such as droplet fraction, droplet velocity, and droplet diameter. To this end, we developed a stretched conical optical fiber probe (SC-OFP) sensor that minimizes the wetting of the sensing tip at a high droplet velocity, a discrimination algorithm based on the first and second derivatives of the output of the raw signal of the OFP sensor, and a method that uses neural network training to determine local droplet velocity independently of droplet size. In the experiments conducted, the developed SC-OFP sensor measured local droplet velocity with a mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) smaller than 4.1% for velocities ranging from 2 to 32 m/s, and droplet diameter with a MAPE smaller than 4.9% for diameters ranging from 0.29 to 1.78 mm. 相似文献

Polyaniline (PANI) has been utilized very well as an active material for hazardous acid detection device. Because its electrical conductivity is developing when it is doped with the protonic acid. However, a critical disadvantage of this material is its insolubility in general solvents so its processability is very poor. In this work, we prepared a Chitosan‐g‐PANI (Cs‐g‐PANI) copolymer to improve its solubility and prossability using common solvents and use film form of the final product to develop a sensitive device, which responds to the presence of hazardous acids. The synthetic Cs‐g‐PANI showing good solubility and excellent film forming properties was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy, as well as X‐ray diffraction analysis, and scanning electron microscopy. The physical properties of Cs‐g‐PANI films were optimized by controlling the Cs composition. Constant potential was applied to this material for detecting the existence of hazardous acids such as hydrochloric acid (HCl), nitric acid, formic acid, and acetic acid. Our findings suggest that this device responds to the presence of HCl faster than any other acids. The detection mechanism is discussed in detail. POLYM. ENG. In this study, cells from the stromal vascular fraction of human subcutaneous tissues were induced to differentiate toward
adipose cells in vitro for 2 weeks. During adipogenic differentiation, we followed the chronological changes in their morphology
with Coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) microscopy and checked the PPAR-γ and UCP-1 expression with RT-PCR. On day
4 after inducing adipogenic differentiation, CARS imaging showed multiple small lipid droplets (LD) distributed peripherally
along the cellular membrane. PPAR-γ began to express at this time and increased until day 14 at a steady rate. On day 7, the
cells appeared as brown adipocytes with numerous small LD throughout the cytoplasm, and the mRNA level of UCP-1 rose abruptly
by 6- to 7-fold. After an additional 7 days, CARS imaging showed the development of a large LD, which is characteristic of
white adipocytes, and the mRNA level of UCP-1 slumped significantly. These results demonstrate the possibility that ADSC pass

Ethylene vinylacetate (EVA) copolymer-based nanocomposites with maleic anhydride-grafted ethylene-vinylacetate (EVAgMA) and
organically modified clay (o-clay) were prepared in a twin screw extruder by following a two-step melt compounding method.
EVAgMA/o-clay masterbatches with various clay contents up to 50 wt% were examined, after which the masterbatch with the highest
clay content was melt compounded with EVA for the preparation of EVA/o-clay nanocomposites containing specific amounts of
clay. Further morphological dispersion of the clay particles by highly polar EVA and shearing was confirmed in the EVA/o-clay
nanocomposites by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). These morphologies led to increased
thermal properties in air as well as a considerable decrease in heat release rate (HRR). EVA/o-clay/MDH nanocomposites were
also prepared using a high clay-bearing masterbatch to confirm the synergistic flame retardancy of clay as a co-additive in
EVA/MDH composites. EVA/o-clay/MDH nanocomposites prepared by substituting o-clay for MDH showed significantly lower and wider

The buffering effect of carbon on the structural stability of amorphous silicon films, used as an anode for lithium ion rechargeable batteries, has been studied during long term discharge/charge cycles. To this extent, the electrochemical performance of a prototype material consisting of amorphous Si thin film (∼250 nm) deposited by radio frequency magnetron sputtering on amorphous carbon (∼50 nm) thin films, denoted as a-C/Si, has been investigated. In comparison to pure amorphous Si thin film (a-Si) which shows a rapid fade in capacity after 30 cycles, the a-C/Si exhibits excellent capacity retention displaying ∼0.03% fade in capacity up to 50 cycles and ∼0.2% after 50 cycles when cycled at a rate of 100 μA/cm2 (∼C/2) suggesting that the presence of thin amorphous C layer deposited between the Cu substrate and a-Si acts as a buffer layer facilitating the release of the volume induced stresses exhibited by pure a-Si during the charge/discharge cycles. This structural integrity combined with microstructural stability of the a-C/Si thin film during the alloying/dealloying process with lithium has been confirmed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis. The buffering capacity of the thin amorphous carbon layer lends credence to its use as the likely compliant matrix to curtail the volume expansion related cracking of silicon validating its choice as the matrix for bulk and thin film battery systems. 相似文献

In order to accurately predict the varying of formwork pressure over time, it is necessary to consider various factors influencing the development of formwork pressure. A prediction model has been previously proposed, but that model has some limitations in that only intrinsic material characteristics are taken into account. Extrinsic effects such as wall friction, formwork flexibility, and external temperature are excluded in the model. This study focuses on the wall friction effect as one of the extrinsic factors. First, by incorporating the intrinsic model and friction stress acting on the interface, a method of calculating formwork pressure considering the wall friction effect is suggested. To find out how much friction stress is acting on the interface and how it varies over time, formwork pressure tests were performed with circular column formworks having three different diameters. In these columns, the vertical pressure at the bottom and the lateral pressures were measured. To calibrate parameters of the intrinsic model for the same material as that used in the formwork pressure tests, additional tests were conducted with a specially designed apparatus that can exclude effects of extrinsic factors. From tests and analysis results, it was found that wall friction greatly affects the variation of formwork pressure over time. The newly suggested calculation method can give a good prediction of real formwork pressure. 相似文献

Synthetic basic sodalite, Na8[AlSiO4]6(OH)2·2H2O, cubic, P43n, (also known as hydroxysodalite hydrate) was prepared by the alkaline activation of amorphous aluminosilicate glass, obtained from the phase separation of Class F fly ash. The sample was subjected to a process similar to geopolymerization, using high concentrations of a NaOH solution at 90 °C for 24 hours. Basic sodalite was chosen as a representative analogue of the zeolite precursor existing in Na-based Class F fly ash geopolymers. To determine its bulk modulus, high-pressure synchrotron X-ray powder diffraction was applied using a diamond anvil cell (DAC) up to a pressure of 4.5 GPa. A curve-fit with a truncated third-order Birch–Murnaghan equation of state with a fixed K'o = 4 to pressure-normalized volume data yielded the isothermal bulk modulus, Ko = 43 ± 4 GPa, indicating that basic sodalite is more compressible than sodalite, possibly due to a difference in interactions between the framework host and the guest molecules. 相似文献
