Companies must ensure their software complies with relevant laws and regulations to avoid the risk of costly penalties, lost reputation, and brand damage resulting from non-compliance. Laws and regulations contain internal cross-references to portions of the same legal text, as well as cross-references to external legal texts. These cross-references introduce ambiguities, exceptions, as well as other challenges to regulatory compliance. Requirements engineers need guidance as to how to address cross-references in order to comply with the requirements of the law. Herein, we analyze each external cross-reference within the U.S. Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Privacy Rule, the Gramm?CLeach?CBliley Act (GLBA), and the GLBA Financial Privacy Rule to determine whether a cross-reference either introduces a conflicting requirement, a conflicting definition, or refines an existing requirement. Herein, we propose a legal cross-reference taxonomy to aid requirements engineers in classifying cross-references as they specify compliance requirements. Analyzing cross-references enables us to address conflicting requirements that may otherwise thwart legal compliance. We identify five sets of conflicting compliance requirements and recommend strategies for resolving these conflicts.  相似文献

In recent years, laser and electron beam welding techniques have been developed with heating rates reaching 1 million K/s, and nonequilibrium microstructures sometimes result. In the present study, the alpha (bcc) to gamma (fcc) transformation in pure iron is studied using a bank of storage batteries for heating and a high speed data acquisition system to monitor the temperature determined from a thermocouple spot welded to the specimen. Heating rates up to 300,000 K/s were obtained with the transformation temperature increasing from the equilibrium value of 1185 K (912 °C) to over 2200 K (1927 °C). The results are presented in terms of continuous heating and isothermal transformation curves.  相似文献

This paper presents guidelines for applying project management tools and techniques to the process of preparing for a program accreditation site visit. The premise of the paper is that the proven tools and techniques of project management are effective in managing all the steps required in accreditation preparation as well as postvisit followups. The basic lesson offered by the paper’s approach is that accreditation preparation should not be turned into a last-minute crash project. Rather, proactive preparation steps should be instituted early to facilitate communication, cooperation, and coordination of the entire process. The guidelines provided in the paper are useful not only for program review, but also for continuous process and curriculum improvement. The paper cites two graduate program examples of Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Inc. preparation at the Air Force Institute of Technology.  相似文献

We investigate reaction–diffusion systems near parameter values that mark the transition from an excitable to an oscillatory medium. We analyse the existence and stability of travelling waves near a steep pulse that arises as the limit of excitation pulses when parameters cross into the oscillatory regime. Travelling waves near this limiting profile are obtained by analysing a codimension-two homoclinic saddle-node/orbit-flip bifurcation. The main result shows that there are precisely two generic scenarios for such a transition, distinguished by the sign of an interaction coefficient between pulses. In both scenarios, we find stable fast fronts, unstable slow fronts, stable excitation pulses, and trigger and phase waves. Both trigger and phase waves are stable for repulsive interaction and both are unstable for attractive interaction.  相似文献

The chemical sensing of nerve gas agents has become an increasingly important goal due to the 1995 terrorist attack in a Tokyo subway as well as national security concerns in regard to world affairs. Chemical detection needs to be sensitive and selective while being facile, portable, and timely. In this paper, a sensing approach using a pyrene imine molecule is presented that is fluorimetric in response. The detection of a chloro‐Sarin surrogate is measured at 5 ppmv in less than 1 second and is highly selective towards halogenated organophosphates. The pyrene imine molecule is incorporated into polystyrene films as well as micrometer and sub‐micrometer fibers. Using both a direct drawing approach and electrospinning, micrometer and nanofibers can be easily manufactured. Applications for functional sensing micrometer and nanofibers are envisioned for optical devices and photonics in addition to solution and airflow sensing devices.  相似文献

We present a mixed-mode VLSI chip performing unsupervised clustering and classification, implementing models of Fuzzy Adaptive Resonance Theory (ART) and Learning Vector Quantization (LVQ), and extending to variants such as Kohonen Self-Organizing Maps (SOM). The parallel processor classifies analog vectorial data into a digital code in a single clock, and implements on-line learning of the analog templates, stored locally and dynamically using the same adaptive circuits for on-chip quantization and refresh. The unit cell performing fuzzy choice and vigilance functions, adaptive resonance learning and long-term analog storage, measures 43 m×43 m in 1.2 m CMOS technology. Experimental learning results from a fabricated 8-input, 16-category prototype are included.  相似文献

This paper describes a new technique for two-dimensional (2-D) imaging of the motion vector at a very high frame rate with ultrasound. Its potential is experimentally demonstrated for transient elastography. But, beyond this application, it also could be promising for color flow and reflectivity imaging. To date, only axial displacements induced in human tissues by low-frequency vibrators were measured during transient elastography. The proposed technique allows us to follow both axial and lateral displacements during the shear wave propagation and thus should improve Young's modulus image reconstruction. The process is a combination of several ideas well-known in ultrasonic imaging: ultra-fast imaging, multisynthetic aperture beamforming, 1-D speckle tracking, and compound imaging. Classical beamforming in the transmit mode is replaced here by a single plane wave insonification increasing the frame rate by at least a factor of 128. The beamforming is achieved only in the receive mode on two independent subapertures. Comparison of successive frames by a classical 1-D speckle tracking algorithm allows estimation of displacements along two different directions linked to the subapertures beams. The variance of the estimates is finally improved by tilting the emitting plane wave at each insonification, thus allowing reception of successive decorrelated speckle patterns.  相似文献
