Meat products that were exposed to a warehouse fire were collected and examined to identify contaminants present in the samples. An extraction method using supercritical carbon dioxide at 100 atm and 60°C was developed to analyse and characterise volatile and semi-volatile compounds from the samples. The major volatile compounds were lipid oxidation products, such as hexanal and nonanal. Volatiles concentrations from fire-exposed meat products were compared to control samples to determine compositional differences. Aromatic and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons were identified, and naphthalene was measured in suspected fire-damaged meat products. Direct supercritical extraction from the meat samples proved to be a rapid and reproducible method to assess contamination in commercial meat products.  相似文献

This research was designed to assess the utility of a four-column high performance size-exclusion chromatography (HPSEC) system to characterize starch-based carbohydrates of different sizes. Corn starches with varying amounts of amylose were treated with 16% sulfuric acid to create Nägeli amylodextrins. During treatment, sub-samples were taken at various intervals from 0–100 days. The washed, dried sub-samples were chromatographically analyzed using four Shodex lonpak columns linked in series. Chromatograms showed the progressive depolymerization of starch. Pullulan molecular weight standards were used to estimate amylodextrin molecular weights (MW). Number-average MWs of amylodextrins decreased as the original starches' amylopectin content decreased. A single HPSEC system can be effectively used to characterize carbohydrates ranging in size from starch to amylodextrins; and to monitor the acid (or enzyme) depolymerization of starches.  相似文献

The morphology of poly(phenylene sulfide), PPS, obtained as processed film has been studied using wide angle X-ray scattering (WAXS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). A unique morphology has been identified in the original film. The spherulites are very small in size and possess a cylindrical symmetry with their lamellae oriented on the edge. In these processed PPS films, the a-axis of the lattice is preferentially aligned perpendicular to the film plane, while the b and c axes are predominantly in the film plane. In the PPS isothermally crystallized from the melted, original film, there is no such preferential orientation. Thermal analysis of the original and melt crystal-lized PPS shows that while the degree of crystallinity is about the same, the nature of the amorphous phase in the two materials is different. In the original film, we did not observe a heat capacity increment at a glass transition temperature by DSC, indicating that all of the amorphous phase belongs to the category of rigid amorphous phase. In the melt crystallized PPS, a distinct glass transition was seen, though only a portion of the amorphous phase becomes mobile at Tg. The differences in orientation and mobility of the amorphous phase in the original film compared to melt crystallized PPS are explained by the different thermal processing procedures used for the two materials.  相似文献

The shock initiation threshold of PBX-9404 has been studied over the pressure range 3.1 GPa-28 GPa with pulse lengths ranging from 0.007 μs-0.63 μs. The short-duration, high pressure pulses were produced by the impact of thin plastic flyer plates accelerated by electrically exploded metal foils. We performed the experiments on explosive pellets 25.4 mm in diameter with thicknesses of 6.0 mm, 10.1 mm and 19.1 mm. No dependence of the initiation threshold on pellet thickness was observed. The data are represented reasonably well by either the critical initiation energy or by the constant P2τ initiation criteria.  相似文献

Lipid metabolism was studied in rats fed diets containing corn oil, coconut oil, or medium-chain triglyceride (MCT), a glyceride mixture containing fatty acids of 8 and 10 carbons in length. The ingestion of MCT-supplemented, cholesterolfree diets depressed plasma and liver total lipids and cholesterol as compared with corn oil-supplemented diets. In rats fed cholesterol-containing diets, plasma cholesterol levels were not influenced by dietary MCT, but liver cholesterol levels were significantly lower than in animals fed corn oil. In vitro cholesterol synthesis from acetate-1-14C was lower in liver slices of rats that consumed MCT than in similar preparations from corn oil-fed rats. Studies of fatty acid carboxyl labeling from acetate-1-14C and the conversion of palmitate-1-14C to C18 acids by liver slices showed that chain-lengthening activity is greater in the liver tissue of rats fed MCT than in the liver of animals fed corn oil. The hepatic fatty acid desaturation mechanisms, evaluated by measuring the conversion of stearate-2-14C to oleate, was also enhanced by feeding MCT. Adipose tissue of rats fed MCT converts acetate-1-14C to fatty acids at a much faster rate than does tissue from animals fed corn oil. Evidence is presented to show that the enhanced incorporation of acetate into fatty acids by the adipose tissue of rats fed MCT represents de novo synthesis of fatty acids and not chain-lengthening activity. Data are also presented on the fatty acid composition of plasma, liver, and adipose tissue lipids of rats fed the different fats under study.  相似文献

Wax esters of secondary alcohols constitute 18–20% of the cuticular lipid extract ofMelanoplus packardii and 26–31% of the cuticular lipids ofMelanoplus sanguinipes. The total number of carbons in the wax esters range from 37–54 with 41 predominating in both species. The fatty acids ofM. packardii wax esters are 16∶0, 18∶0, 14∶0, 20∶0 and 12∶0 in decreasing quantity. The fatty acids ofM. sanguinipes wax esters are 18∶0, 20∶0, 16∶0 22∶0, 14∶0, 19∶0 and 17∶0 in decreasing quantity. The secondary alcohols from the wax esters ofM. packardii are C25, C23 and C27 in decreasing quantity, and the secondary alcohols of theM. sanguinipes are C23, C25, C21, C27, C24, C22 and C26 in decreasing quantity. The present study is concerned with the numerical approximation of periodic solutions of systems of Korteweg–de Vries type, coupled through their nonlinear terms. We construct, analyze and numerically validate two types of schemes that differ in their treatment of the third derivatives appearing in the system. One approach preserves a certain important invariant of the system, up to round-off error, while the other, somewhat more standard method introduces a measure of dissipation. For both methods, we prove convergence of a semi-discrete approximation and highlight differences in the basic assumptions required for each. Numerical experiments are also conducted with the aim of ascertaining the accuracy of the two schemes when integrations are made over long time intervals.  相似文献

A series of quench tests on hollow cylindrical specimens made of the machinable ceramic, Pyrophyllite, has been performed. The specimens consistently fractured with two diametrically opposite longitudinal cracks. Finite element analysis indicates that the primary crack occurred at the stage when the strain energy of the cylinder reached its maximum during the thermal transient process, while the secondary crack was caused by stress waves generated following the primary crack. This is supported by experimental observation of the time of fracture and the crack morphology. The work reported here helps to shed light on the fracture criterion for brittle cylindrical components under transient thermal and dynamic loadings.  相似文献
