Detailed analyses and comparisons of urban travel forecasts prepared by applying the state-of-practice sequential procedure and the solution of a combined network equilibrium model are presented. The sequential procedure for solving the trip distribution, mode choice and assignment problems with feedback is the current practice in most transportation planning agencies, although its important limitations are well known. The solution of a combined model, in contrast, results from a single mathematical formulation, which ensures a well-converged and consistent result. Using a real network, several methods for solving the sequential procedure with feedback are compared to the solution of the combined model ESTRAUS. The results of these methods are shown to have various levels of instability. The paper concludes with a call for a new paradigm of travel forecasting practice based on an internally consistent model formulation that can be solved to a level of precision suitable for comparing alternative scenarios.  相似文献

Silver, gold, copper and platinum nanoparticles (NPs) were grown on surfaces in the form of patterns by the exposure of laser radiation onto droplets of metal ion solutions and the aid of a reducing agent. The generation of patterns from metallic NPs was achieved by combining induced growth of NPs and nanostructures by laser incidence directly on surfaces and optical image formation techniques for transferring the patterns. Near-UV (363.8 nm) and visible (532 nm) laser wavelengths were used for the laser-induced growth of NPs into microstructures on glass, quartz, stainless steel, silicon, and gold-on-silicon substrates. The sizes of the patterns formed were on the micrometer scale and the sizes of the transferred patterns were on the millimeter scale. The patterns formed were generated by optical transference of image and interference of laser beams. Ag and Au substrates were highly active in surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS). The enhanced Raman activity was measured for SERS probe molecules: 9H-purin-6-amine (adenine) and 1,2-bis (4-pyridyl)-ethane analytes on Ag and Au substrates, respectively. The enhancement factors obtained were 1.8×10(5) and 6.2×10(6), respectively.  相似文献

In this work the use of tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) for cross‐linking of chitosan hydrogel beads was studied at the level of 1 mmol TEOS per gram of chitosan. They were compared with glutaraldehyde and epichlorohydrin cross‐linked beads. The hydrogels were characterized by FTIR, SEM, water content, nitrogen content, and their point of zero charge. The performance of the anionic dye Remazol Black (RB) and the cationic Cd(II) adsorptions was assessed in order to characterize the sorbate–sorbent interaction. Adsorption experimental data were analyzed using two‐ and three‐parameter isotherm models along with the evaluation of mean adsorption energy and standard free energy. The adsorption was observed to be pH dependent. The uptake rate of RB and Cd(II) showed that the three type of beads followed a similar kinetic behavior. For both sorbates the TEOS cross‐linked beads showed the higher maximum adsorption capacity, followed by epichlorohydrin and glutaraldehyde cross‐linked beads. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Using a simple characteristic space model of monopolistic competition with two interdependent markets, this paper analyses the effects of the bilateral adoption of antidumping measures on the degree of product differentiation, as well as the relationships with the type of product arrangement and the implications for welfare. Under an arrangement where each domestic firm competes directly with two imported products (interleaved arrangement), the model reproduces some of the results that already exist in the literature, where these have been obtained in an oligopolistic context. Through the characterisation of the symmetric zero profit equilibrium, it is shown that under such an arrangement the degree of product variety is higher when governments do not impose bilateral restrictions on prices. By contrast, under an arrangement where each half of the market is made-up of products of the same nationality (split arrangement), the reciprocal imposition of antidumping legislation has no effect on either the degree of product variety or on social welfare. Dental casting is a very common procedure for making high-quality replicas of paleo-anthropological remains. Replicas are frequently used, instead of original remains, to study both fossil and extant Primate teeth in morphological and metrical analyses. Several commercial products can be used in molds. This study analyzed SEM image resolution and enamel surface feature definition of tooth molds at various magnification levels and obtained, with both Coltène and 3M low-viscosity body polyvinylsiloxane impression, materials and polyurethane casts. Results, through comparison with the original teeth, show that both the negative molds and the positive casts are highly reliable in replicating enamel surfaces. However, positive cast quality is optimal for SEM observation only till the fourth consecutive replica from the original mold, especially at high SEM magnification levels.  相似文献

Robot grasp quality metrics are used to evaluate, compare and select robotic grasp configurations. Many of them have been proposed based on a diversity of underlying principles and to assess different aspects of the grasp configurations. As a consequence, some of them provide similar information but other can provide completely different assessments. Combinations of metrics have been proposed in order to provide global indexes, but these attempts have shown the difficulties of merging metrics with different numerical ranges and even physical units. All these studies have raised the need of a deeper knowledge in order to determine independent grasp quality metrics which enable a global assessment of a grasp, and a way to combine them. This paper presents an exhaustive study in order to provide numerical evidence for these issues. Ten quality metrics are used to evaluate a set of grasps planned by a simulator for 7 different robot hands over a set of 126 object models. Three statistical analysis, namely, variability, correlation and sensitivity, are performed over this extensive database. Results and graphs presented allow to set practical thresholds for each quality metric, select independent metrics, and determine the robustness of each metric,providing a reliability indicator under pose uncertainty. The results from this paper are intended to serve as guidance for practical use of quality metrics by researchers on grasp planning algorithms.  相似文献

Because of the computational power of today??s GPUs, they are starting to be harnessed more and more to help out CPUs on high-performance computing. In addition, an increasing number of today??s state-of-the-art supercomputers include commodity GPUs to bring us unprecedented levels of performance in terms of raw GFLOPS and GFLOPS/cost. In this work, we present a GPU implementation of an image processing application of growing popularity: The 2D fast wavelet transform (2D-FWT). Based on a pair of Quadrature Mirror Filters, a complete set of application-specific optimizations are developed from a CUDA perspective to achieve outstanding factor gains over a highly optimized version of 2D-FWT run in the CPU. An alternative approach based on the Lifting Scheme is also described in Franco et al. (Acceleration of the 2D wavelet transform for CUDA-enabled Devices, 2010). Then, we investigate hardware improvements like multicores on the CPU side, and exploit them at thread-level parallelism using the OpenMP API and pthreads . Overall, the GPU exhibits better scalability and parallel performance on large-scale images to become a solid alternative for computing the 2D-FWT versus those thread-level methods run on emerging multicore architectures.  相似文献

The glycerolipid composition of a high‐palmitoleic acid sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) mutant accumulating up to 20% of n‐7 fatty acids was studied. This line produces oil with a complex triacylglycerol (TAG) composition, containing species that have not been previously identified in sunflower. In this regard, palmitoleic acid was esterified in an unexpected way in the three positions of the TAG molecules. The polar glycerolipid composition of the mutant was also studied, in order to identify and quantify the changes in membrane lipids imposed by the sunflower enzymatic machinery during the accumulation of the unusual n‐7 fatty acids. The high‐palmitoleic mutant accumulated important quantities of n‐7 fatty acids in the polar lipid fraction, especially in the phosphatidylcholine lipid class. However, the total polar lipid content of these lines was not affected. On the other hand, the mutations responsible for the n‐7 lipid accumulation induced an important decrease in the oil yield of the new mutant.  相似文献
