Laboratory-reared and wild adults of the melon fly,Dacus cucurbitae Coquillett, were tested for response to cue-lure at various ages. Virgin laboratory (4, 6, 8, 10, 12, and 14 days old) and wild (10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, and 22 days old) flies were released into outdoor field cages and trapped from 0800 until 1600 hr. Response of males to cue-lure increased with age and corresponded with sexual maturity for each strain. Females of both strains were relatively nonresponsive to cue-lure. Failure to eradicate in past male annihilation programs againstD. cucurbitae may be explained in part by the fact that only older males, which may have already mated with gravid females, respond to cue-lure.  相似文献

In this article, we are combining minimization criteria in the colorant separation process for spectral color reproduction. The colorant separation is performed by inverting a spectral printer model: the spectral Yule‐Nielsen modified Neugebauer model. The inversion of the spectral printer model is an optimization operation in which a criterion is minimized at each iteration. The approach we proposed minimizes a criterion defined by the weighted sum of a spectral difference and a perceptual color difference. The weights can be tuned with a parameter α ∞ [0, 1]. Our goal is to decrease the spectral difference between the original data and its reproduction and also to consider perceptual color difference under different illuminant conditions. In order to find the best α value, we initially compare a pure colorimetric criterion and a pure spectral criterion for the reproduction, then we combine them. We perform four colorant separations: the first separation will minimize the 1976 CIELAB color difference where four illuminants are tested, the second separation will minimize an equally weighted summation of 1976 CIELAB color difference with the four illuminants tested independently, the third colorant separation will minimize a spectral difference, and the fourth colorant separation will combine a weighted sum of a spectral difference and one of the two first colorimetric differences previously introduced. This last colorant separation can be tuned with a parameter in order to emphasize on spectral or colorimetric difference. We use a six colorants printer with artificial inks for our experiments. The prints are simulated by the spectral Yule‐Nielsen modified Neugebauer model. Two groups of data are used for our experiments. The first group describes the data printed by our printing system, which is represented by a regular grid in colorant space of the printer and the second group describes the data which is not originally produced by our printing system but mapped to the spectral printer gamut. The Esser test chart and the Macbeth Color Checker test chart have been selected for the second group. Spectral gamut mapping of this data is carried out before performing colorant separation. Our results show improvement for the colorant separations combining a sum of 1976 CIELAB color difference for a set of illuminants and for the colorant separation combining a sum of 1976 CIELAB color difference and spectral difference, especially in the case of spectral data originally produced by the printer. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The recommendation of the CIE has been followed as closely as possible to evaluate the accuracy of five color gamut mapping algorithms (GMAs)—two nonspatial and three spatial algorithms—by psychophysical experiments with 20 test images, 20 observers, one test done on paper and a second one on display. Even though the results do not show any overall “winner,” one GMA is definitely perceived as not accurate. The importance of a high number of test images to obtain robust evaluation is underlined by the high variability of the results depending on the test images. Significant correlations between the percentage of out‐of‐gamut pixels, the number of distinguishable pairs of GMAs, and the perceived difficulty to distinguish them have been found. The type of observers is also important. The experts, who prefer a spatial GMA, show a stronger consensus and look especially for a good rendering of details, whereas the nonexperts hardly make a difference between the GMAs. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Negative consequences are an important component of the substance use change process, yet no standardized measure exists to assess consequences of use. This study evaluated the psychometric properties of the Inventory of Drug Use Consequences, a self-report measure assessing drinking and drug use consequences. Participants (N=252) were assessed at entry into outpatient substance abuse treatment. Items loaded strongly on 1 factor, and internal consistency of the total scale was high. Fifteen items with the highest correlations with the total scale were chosen to represent the construct. The shortened measure exhibited good internal consistency, convergent and discriminant validity, and detected change over time and may be the measure of substance use consequences that is lacking in the field. This paper describes a new battery model developed for use in time series performance models of hybrid energy systems. The model is intended to overcome some of the difficulties associated with currently used methods. It is based on the approach of chemical kinetics. This model, which can be used for charging and discharging, is specifically concerned with the apparent change in capacity as a function of charge and discharge rates. It assumes that the charge can be stored in two ways, either as immediately available or as chemically bound. As described in this paper, it requires the determination of as few as three constants. Examples of the deviation of the battery model constants and comparisons of the new model with those used previously are given. Based on the success of the new model, it has been incorporated into the latest versions of the University of Massachusetts's wind/diesel simulation codes.  相似文献

The focus of this work was to find a low-cost precursor for carbon molecular sieve (CMS) membranes, and a simple way of producing them. In addition, several ways of modifying a carbon material are described. The modification method used in this study was metal doping of carbon. CMS membranes were formed by vacuum carbonization of cellulose and metal loaded cellulose. Metal additives include oxides of Ca, Mg, Fe(III) and Si, and nitrates of Ag, Cu and Fe(III).The carbon membrane containing Fe-nitrate has promising separation performance for the gas pairs O2/N2 and CO2/CH4. Carbon containing nitrates of Cu or Ag show high selectivity, but reduced O2 and CO2 permeability compared to carbon with Fe-nitrate. Element analysis indicates that Cu migrates to the carbon surface, creating an extra layer resistance to gas transport. A silver mirror is also seen on the surface of Ag-nitrate-containing carbon. However, the Ag- and Cu-containing membranes show a high H2 permeability. Adding metal oxides makes the carbon membranes retard the transport of easily condensable gases (e.g. CO2). This can be exploited for enhanced H2/CO2 separation efficiency.  相似文献

In this paper we reviewed some of our work on the photo induced coloration of Poly(p-phenylene sulfide) (PPS) and compared it to recent results obtained from the thermal treatment of resins that varied in molecular weight and ionic content. The results from this study suggest that coloration of amorphous PPS films after UV irradiation is caused by products different from those that cause coloration in semicrystalline PPS after thermoxidation. In addition, we found that polymer end group chemistry and resin molecular weights play important roles in the thermoxidative coloration of PPS, but only nominally influence the photooxidative coloration of the resin. PPS coloration may arise from the accumulation of specific, colored products (e.g., phenyl-phenyl moieties) and the possible presence of intermolecular aggregates. The mechanism and extent by which these structures occur in UV irradiated or heated PPS are likely dependent upon the polymer morphology of the samples tested.  相似文献

The dynamic response of viologen-activated nanostructured titanium dioxide has been studied by means of electrical and electro-optical measurements. We show that the state of charge of the semiconductor network is the key factor mediating between the electrode potential and colouration of viologen. Theoretically, we relate the electrode potential to the statistics of occupancy of both TiO2 nanoparticles and oxidized viologen molecules attached to the surface, on the assumption of quasi-equilibrium of Fermi levels in these contacting phases. Experimentally, we determine the statistical function from steady-state measurements (electrochemical impedance spectroscopy) of the capacitance of the semiconductor film. From this understanding we explain the main features that correlate the simultaneous voltammetry and transmittance responses. Finally, the redox process of viologen is resolved separately from the TiO2 response by means of transmittance data.  相似文献
