For much of the twentieth century, coliform bacteria and especially Escherichia coli have been used as indicators of possible post-processing contamination and the presence of E. coli as an indicator of fecal contamination in foods. In this study, 500 foods in 10 different groups, mainly dairy products, delicatessen products, salads, spices, cream cakes and fresh fruit and vegetable samples, were analyzed for the natural contamination of fecal coliforms and E. coli by the standard most probable number (MPN) method. The difference between weighted means of fecal coliforms and E. coli counts were only 0.246 log10 MPN/g-ml (MPN/gram for solid samples, and MPN/milliliter for liquids). Enumeration results were also evaluated by Pearson's correlation coefficient ( r), Cronbach's alpha (f) and determination coefficient ( r 2) analysis. According to results, although 33 samples contained only non- E. coli fecal coliforms, the results of reliability analyses indicated that fecal coliform counts and E. coli counts may be used interchangeably ( P <0.0001). It can be said that fecal coliform or, preferably E. coli analysis is sufficient for rapid routine determination of fecal contamination, at least for those food groups analyzed in this research.  相似文献

Different samples of xTeO2.(25-y)B2O3.zV2O5.yYb2O3 (or TBVY) new glass material were synthesized by the classical melt-quenching method. Structural, optical, physical, and thermal analyses of the synthesized glasses were performed in addition to Monte Carlo simulation to test radiation shielding properties. The results showed that increasing ratios of Yb2O3 (y = 0.0, 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5 mol%) produced monotonic density values of the synthesized glasses ranging from 4.70058 g cm?3 to 5.01038 g cm?3. XRD and FTIR analyses were used to confirm the glass structure of all samples. Optical transmittance and absorption parameters varied almost monotonically with increasing ratios of Yb2O3 indicating the ability to predict and control these properties using Yb2O3 additive. Furthermore, simulated radiation interaction parameters, such as attenuation coefficients and half-value layer, exhibited well-behaved dependence on the concentration ratio of the Yb2O3 additive. This approach to glass material synthesis demonstrate the useful synergetic effect of combining structural, optical, and radiation characteristics.  相似文献

In this study, polypyrrole (PPy)/carbon nanotube (CNT) composites were synthesized by in situ chemical oxidative polymerization of a pyrrole monomer on CNT. Two different types of CNT having different structural properties were used. The composites were characterized using BET surface area analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) techniques. Thermal decomposition kinetics of PPy/CNT composites was studied by thermal gravimetric analysis techniques (TG/DTG (differential thermal gravimetric)) at different heating rates (2.5, 5, 7.5, and 10?K min?1). Kinetic parameters of the composites were obtained from the TG and DTG curves using the Kissinger–Akahira–Sunose (KAS) and Flynn–Wall–Ozawa (FWO) models. The electrochemical capacitive properties of the composites were investigated by the cyclic voltammetry (CV) technique. Pt nanoparticles were decorated on the plain CNTs and composite materials via the microwave irradiation method.  相似文献

A sampling program has been undertaken to investigate the variations of disinfection by-products (DBPs) formation and nature and fate of natural organic matter (NOM) through water treatment plants in Istanbul. Specific focus has been given to the effect seasonal changes on the formation of DBPs and organic precursors levels. Water samples were collected from the three reservoirs inlet and within three major water treatment plants of Istanbul, Turkey. Changes in the dissolved organic carbon (DOC), ultraviolet absorbance at 254 nm (UV(254)), specific ultraviolet absorbance (SUVA), trihalomethane formation potential (THMFP), and haloacetic acids formation potential (HAAFP) were measured for both the treated and raw water samples. The variations of THM and HAA concentrations within treatment processes were monitored and also successfully assessed. The reactivity of the organic matter changed throughout the year with the lowest reactivity (THMFP and HAAFP) in winter, increasing in spring and reaching a maximum in fall season. This corresponded to the water being easier to treat in fall and an increase in the proportion of hydrophobic content. Understanding the seasonal changes in organic matter character and their reactivity with treatment chemicals should lead to a better optimization of the treatment processes and a more consistent water quality.  相似文献
