The installation of photovoltaic panels (PVs) on the roof of residential and commercial buildings is getting widespread as these areas stand normally idle and can be used for another purpose without losing an inhabited space. Considering the solar potential of Turkey, a significant amount of electricity generation is possible using current PV technology. For this reason, a two-story detached school building located in ?zmir, Turkey was taken into consideration and monthly as well as annual coverage ratio of an on-grid PV system for its entire energy requirement (including heating, cooling and lighting) was investigated. The PVs were installed on the south face of the school building roof. A heat pump, with a typical coefficient of performance (COP) value of 2.5, was used for supplying required cooling and heating. The heating, cooling and lighting loads were determined on a monthly basis. The average monthly electrical energy generation of the mounted PVs was calculated using a written code in Energy Equation Solver (EES) software. As a result, the monthly as well as yearly electrical energy demand coverage ratio values for the school using the installed PVs were revealed. Since the school building has a large south faced roof, the installation of PVs is very suitable to meet the cumulative electrical energy need of the heat pump and the lighting load. For Case 1, 180 PVs, which supply the entire yearly demand (with a 110% coverage ratio), were taken into consideration, while for Case 2, 265 PVs, which cover 75% of the roof area, were evaluated. The results showed that between November and March, PV electrical energy generation is not sufficient to meet all energy need of the school for both cases. However, significant coverage ratio values were observed for the rest of the year. In a yearly basis, the PV generation exceeded the building demand by 62% for the Case 2. This conclusion points out that the school can meet its yearly electricity need with the considered PV system and can even have an additional financial profit by selling its surplus PV electricity to the grid. Economic and environmental payback time values as well as simple payback time value were also computed for both investigated cases. The results pointed out a simple payback time of 7.9 years for Case 1 and 7.6 years for Case 2. Energy payback time was determined as 5 years for both systems. The greenhouse gas payback time of 2.7 years and 5.9 years was encountered for coal based and natural gas based calculations.  相似文献

An efficient novel algorithm is introduced for ground wave propagation problems. First, ground wave propagation characteristics for a vertically polarized short electric dipole over a smooth spherical earth are reviewed, reducing the vector electromagnetic problem for the three-dimensional spherical geometry to an equivalent two-dimensional rectilinear scalar potential problem which is solved by spectral analysis and synthesis. Alternative evaluations of the spectral integral yield ray optical and normal mode solutions, which are conventionally referred to as the Norton and Wait formulations, respectively. Combining these formulations in an efficient manner yields a hybrid algorithm which is constructed so as to account adaptively for the characteristics of ground wave propagation in interference, intermediate and diffraction regions (including mixed paths) for various source and/or receiver heights. Numerical comparisons are made with reference results obtained via the parabolic equation (PE) method, in parametric ranges where PE is reliable; this permits assessment of the effectiveness of the hybrid approach. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Living polytetrahydrofuran (pTHF) was terminated with the potassium salt of pyrrole to yield polymers with pyrrole end groups. Copolymerization of THF and pyrrole with short and long pTHF segments was achieved by constant potential electrolysis. Syntheses of the block copolymers were performed using tetrabutylammonium tetrafluoroborate, sodium perchlorate, and sodium p‐toluenesulfonate as the supporting electrolytes. Characterization of the block copolymers were based on scanning electron microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, thermal gravimetry analysis, cyclic voltammetry, and FTIR studies. No significant effect of the chain length on the properties of the copolymers was observed; however, use of different dopants resulted in different thermal and electrochemical behaviors, surface morphologies, and conductivities. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. We introduce a method that exploits the “active” nature of the force-sensing integrated readout and active tip (FIRAT), a recently introduced atomic force microscopy (AFM) probe, to control the interaction forces during individual tapping events in tapping mode (TM) AFM. In this method the probe tip is actively retracted if the tip–sample interaction force exceeds a user-specified force threshold during a single tap while the tip is still in contact with the surface. The active tip control (ATC) circuitry designed for this method makes it possible to control the repulsive forces and indentation into soft samples, limiting the repulsive forces during the scan while avoiding instability due to attractive forces. We demonstrate the accurate topographical imaging capability of this method on suitable samples that possess both soft and stiff features.  相似文献

In this paper, a bulk acoustic resonator based on ZnO belts is demonstrated. This device shows a great deal of promise in applications as an electronic filter and as a mass sensor. The fabricated device was characterized using vector network analysis, and both the first and third harmonics of resonance were observed at approximately 247 and 754 MHz, respectively. A one-dimensional Krimholt-Leedom-Matthaei model was utilized to predict the resonant frequency of the device and confirm the observed behavior.  相似文献

In this paper, we introduce capacitive micro-machined ultrasonic transducers (CMUTs) with electrically isolated multiple electrodes embedded in the same silicon nitride CMUT membrane. Some of the advantages of this structure are demonstrated using a dual-electrode CMUT with separate transmit and receive electrodes as an example. By locating the transmit electrodes near the edges of a rectangular CMUT membrane, the stable displacement range, hence the maximum pressure amplitude during transmit mode is increased without collapsing the membrane when operated within static collapse voltage range. In the receive mode, the center receive electrode is brought closer to the substrate by biasing the side electrodes, and a higher electromechanical transformer ratio is obtained at low direct current (DC) bias. Therefore, dual-electrode CMUT has an effectively larger gap as compared to conventional CMUT during transmit, and it has an effectively smaller gap during receive. Demonstrative experiments are performed on dual-electrode CMUTs with rectangular membranes with different side and center electrode sizes for transmit and receive measurements. By using the two 4-microm wide side electrodes and an 8-microm wide center electrode on a 20-microm wide membrane, a 6.8 dB increase in maximum output pressure is obtained with side electrode excitation as compared to conventional center electrode. Similarly, the receive performance improvement was demonstrated while reducing the DC bias requirements. Simple finite-element and equivalent circuit-based models were developed to successfully model the behavior of dual-electrode CMUTs. Simulations show that, with simple modifications, more than 10 dB overall sensitivity improvement is feasible with dual-electrode CMUTs with rectangular membranes.  相似文献

When capacitive micromachined ultrasonic transducers (CMUTs) are monolithically integrated with custom-designed low-noise electronics, the output noise of the system can be dominated by the CMUT thermal-mechanical noise both in air and in immersion even for devices with low capacitance. Because the thermal-mechanical noise can be related to the electrical admittance of the CMUTs, this provides an effective means of device characterization. This approach yields a novel method to test the functionality and uniformity of CMUT arrays and the integrated electronics when a direct connection to CMUT array element terminals is not available. Because these measurements can be performed in air at the wafer level, the approach is suitable for batch manufacturing and testing. We demonstrate this method on the elements of an 800-μm-diameter CMUT-on-CMOS array designed for intravascular imaging in the 10 to 20 MHz range. Noise measurements in air show the expected resonance behavior and spring softening effects. Noise measurements in immersion for the same array provide useful information on both the acoustic cross talk and radiation properties of the CMUT array elements. The good agreement between a CMUT model based on finite difference and boundary element methods and the noise measurements validates the model and indicates that the output noise is indeed dominated by thermal-mechanical noise. The measurement method can be exploited to implement CMUT-based passive sensors to measure immersion medium properties, or other parameters affecting the electro-mechanics of the CMUT structure.  相似文献

The cause and amount of error arising from the use of the scalar approximation in monochromatic optical wave propagation are discussed using a signals and systems formulation. Based on Gauss’s Law, the longitudinal component of an electric field is computed from the transverse components by passing the latter through a two input single output linear shift-invariant system. The system is analytically characterized both in the space and frequency domains. For propagating waves, the large response for the frequencies near the limiting wave number indicates the small angle requirement for the validity of the scalar approximation. Also, a discrete simulator is developed to compute the longitudinal component from the transverse components for monochromatic propagating electric fields. The simulator output helps to evaluate the validity of the scalar approximation when the system output cannot be analytically calculated.  相似文献

Neutrophil‐to‐lymphocyte ratio (NLR) was introduced as a potential marker to determine inflammation in end‐stage renal disease (ESRD) patients. Recently, platelet‐to‐lymphocyte ratio (PLR) and NLR were found to positively correlated with inflammatory markers including tumor necrosis factor‐α (TNF‐α) and interleukin (IL)‐6 in cardiac and noncardiac patients. Data regarding PLR and its association with inflammation are lacking in hemodialysis (HD) and peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients. Hence, we aimed to determine the relationship between PLR, NLR, and inflammation in ESRD patients. This was a cross‐sectional study involving 62 ESRD patients (29 females, 33 males; mean age, 49.6 ± 14.6 years) receiving PD or HD for ≥6 months in the Dialysis Unit of Necmettin Erbakan University. PLR, NLR, C‐reactive protein, TNF‐α, IL‐6 levels were measured. PLR, NLR, serum high sensitive C‐reactive protein, IL‐6, and TNF‐α levels were significantly higher in PD patients when compared with HD patients. ESRD patients with PLR ≥ 140 had significantly higher NLR, IL‐6, and TNF‐α levels when compared to patients with PLR < 139. In the bivariate correlation analysis, PLR was positively correlated with NLR, IL‐6, and TNF‐α in this population. When we compared the association of PLR and NLR with IL‐6 (r = 0.371, P = 0.003 vs. r = 0.263, P = 0.04, respectively) and TNF‐α (r = 0.334, P = 0.008 vs. r = 0.273, P = 0.032, respectively), PLR was found to be superior to NLR in terms of inflammation in ESRD patients. Simple calculation of PLR can predict inflammation better than NLR in ESRD patients.  相似文献
