This work presents the use of carbon nanotube (CNT) skeletons and the resin infusion process as a path towards the production of polymer composites with high and well dispersed nanotube content. A general purpose low viscosity epoxy resin was used as matrix in the reported process assessment. Thin CNT papers, called skeletons, were initially produced to obtain CNT networks. The impregnation was made by infiltrating the non-diluted resin through the carbon nanotube structure. The results show the proposed processing approach as one capable of producing well dispersed nanocomposites with high CNT loading (more than 15 wt% CNT by composite weight), which are important for developing high performance structures based on carbon nanotubes with good thermal and electrical conductivity. The absolute mechanical performance was lower than expected, and discussed in light of manufacturing problems detected by microscopy observations under scanning electron microscopy (SEM). 相似文献

Nickel was introduced in ZSM-5 zeolite by two different methods: dry impregnation and ionic exchange. Different loadings of metal, ranging from 0.4 to 6 wt% were explored. These materials were thoroughly characterized by EXAFS, TPR, acidity measurements by H/D isotope exchange and ethane hydrogenolysis. Regardless of the metal introduction method, at 0.4 wt% Ni, the Ni-ZSM-5 catalysts present only nickel located inside the zeolite channels as compensation cations. In contrast, an increase to 1 wt% nickel (via impregnation) led to its presence both inside and outside the channels.The catalytic activity of these Ni-ZSM-5 zeolites was tested in n-hexane cracking. Depending on the way the metal was introduced, it was possible to modify the n-hexane cracking activity and the selectivity toward light alkenes. Multimedia information retrieval (MIR) and delivery plays an important role in many application domains due to the increasing need to identify, filter, and manage growing amounts of data, notably multimedia information. To efficiently manage and exchange multimedia information, interoperability between coded data and metadata is required and standardization is central to achieving the necessary level of interoperability. In the context of this paper, the term retrieval refers to the process by which a user, human or machine, identifies the content it needs, and the term delivery refers to the adaptive transport and consumption of the identified content in a particular context or usage environment. Both the retrieval and delivery processes may require content and context metadata. This paper will argue that maximum quality of experience depends not only on the content itself (and thus content metadata) but also on the consumption conditions (thus context metadata). Additionally, the rights and protection conditions have become critically important in recent years, especially with the explosion of electronic music commerce and different ldquoshoppingrdquo conditions. This paper will review existing multimedia standards related to information retrieval and adaptive delivery of multimedia content, emphasizing the need for such standards, and will show how these standards can help the development, dissemination, and valorization of MIR research results. Moreover, it will also discuss limitations of the current standards and anticipate what future standardization activities are relevant and needed. The duration of a single plasma discharge in the next generation of fusion experiments will be much longer than in the present devices. Storing all raw data acquired in each discharge will be more difficult and the high rates achieved by the new digitizers are already contributing to storage overload. This gap can be mitigated by real time (RT) analysis and compression, using devices such as field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) capable to transfer and process data on the fly. However, to ensure a correct RT analysis, the FPGA algorithm must be adapted to the signal to be acquired. Since minor changes in signal shape may require significant algorithm modifications, it is important to know in advance the signal attributes. For that reason, the availability of more than one RT algorithm, especially during commissioning of new sub-systems and during campaigns with relevant changes in diagnostic conditions, is advantageous. This paper presents an implementation using two RT algorithms processing simultaneously, developed for the gamma-ray and hard X-ray diagnostics of the Joint European Torus (JET). Both algorithms perform pulse height analysis with pile-up rejection. While the first algorithm is suitable for Gaussian shaped pulses, the second is suitable for exponential signals. One of the major obstacles of chemotherapy is that, after repeated treatments, cellular resistance to the drug appears. The problem is that the tumor cells become resistant not only to the drugs which have been used during the treatment but also to other drugs which are structurally and functionally unrelated. This is termed 'multidrug resistance' (MDR). MDR is frequently associated with decreased drug accumulation resulting from enhanced drug efflux. This is correlated with the presence of a membrane protein, P-glycoprotein, which pumps a wide variety of drugs out of cells thus reducing their toxicity. The search for molecules able to reverse MDR is very important. We here report that mobile ionophores such as valinomycin, nonactin, nigericin, monensin, calcimycin, lasalocid inhibit the efflux of anthracycline by P-glycoprotein whereas, channel-forming ionophores such as gramicidin do not. Cyclosporin which is also a strong Ca(2+) chelating agent also inhibits the P-glycoprotein-mediated efflux of anthracycline. 相似文献

An investigation of the flow inside the nozzle of a Cross-Flow turbine, which is a hydraulic turbine where the rectangular water jet issuing from the nozzle crosses the rotor blades twice, is presented here. Part of the investigation consisted in the experimental measurement of the static pressure distribution on the inside walls of two different nozzle configurations, both with the nozzle mounted alone and in the presence of a rotor. The tests performed in the presence of a rotor included the measurement of efficiency and covered a wide range of working conditions around the best efficiency point. The analysis of the results obtained in this way give us an indication of the influence of the turbine non-dimensional volume flow rate on the flow inside the nozzle and the way it affects the reaction degree of the machine and its efficiency level. Although most of the tests were carried out with a 25-blade rotor, one of the analysed nozzle configurations (that with an inside vane) was also tested with a 10-blade rotor, permitting the assessment of the effect the number of blades has on the flow in the nozzle.The flow inside the nozzle with no inside vane was numerically analysed using a method based on a Schwarz-Christoffel conformal transformation of variables. The numerical results show a fair agreement with the experimental data collected when the rotor was not present. A qualitative discussion of some of the losses occurring in the nozzle is advanced based on the computer results, and its conclusions are used for explaining the poor performance of the nozzle with no inside vane. 相似文献

Organic acid profiles of 36 Cydonia oblonga Miller leaf samples, from three different geographical origins of northern (Bragança and Carrazeda de Ansiães) and central Portugal (Covilhã), harvested in three collection months (June, August and October of 2006), were determined by HPLC/UV (214 nm). Quince leaves presented a common organic acid profile, composed of six constituents: oxalic, citric, malic, quinic, shikimic and fumaric acids. C. oblonga leaves total organic acid content varied from 1.6 to 25.8 g/kg dry matter (mean value of 10.5 g/kg dry matter). Chitosan has been reported to be a non-toxic, biodegradable antibacterial agent. The aim of this work was to elucidate the relationship between the molecular weight of chitosan and its antimicrobial activity upon two model microorganisms, one Gram-positive (Staphylococcus aureus) and one Gram-negative (Escherichia coli). Atomic force microscopy (AFM) imaging was used to obtain high-resolution images of the effect of chitosans on the bacterial morphology. The AFM measurements were correlated with viable cell numbers, which show that the two species reacted differently to the high- and low-molecular-weight chitosan derivatives. The images obtained revealed not only the antibacterial effects, but also the response strategies used by the bacteria; cell wall collapse and morphological changes reflected cell death, whereas clustering of bacteria appeared to be associated with cell survival. In addition, nanoindentation experiments with the AFM revealed mechanical changes in the bacterial cell wall induced by the treatment. The nanoindentation results suggested that despite little modification observed in the Gram-positive bacteria in morphological studies, cell wall damage had indeed occurred, since cell wall stiffness was reduced after chitooligosaccharide treatment. 相似文献
