Geometric Methods for Shape Recovery from Line Drawings of Polyhedra   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Using structural geometric arguments, Whiteley showed that a line drawing is a correct projection of a spherical polyhedron if and only if it has a cross-section compatible with it. We here enlarge the class of drawings to which this test applies, including those of polyhedral disks, possibly with perforations. This extension is helpful, as it makes the test applicable to verify and reconstruct drawings from usual scenes with opaque objects.The presented results rely on geometric constructions, thus offering an alternativeapproach to line drawing interpretation, complementary to the algebraic-combinatorial treatment given in the classic work by Sugihara.Lluís Ros was born inVilafranca del Penedès (Catalonia), on June 30, 1968. He is currently a research scientist at the Institut de Robótica i Informàtica Industrial of the Spanish High Council for Scientific Research, where he holds a Ramón y Cajal position since February 2003. He received a M.Sc. degree in mechanical engineering in 1992, and a Ph.D. degree (with honors) in advanced robotics in 2000, both from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia. His research interests are in geometry, with applications to machine vision, robot kinematics and computer graphics.Federico Thomas was born in Barcelona, on October 5, 1961. He received the B.S. degree in telecommunications engineering in 1984, and the Ph.D. degree (with honors) in computer science in 1988, both from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia. Since March 1990, he has been a research scientist in the Institut de Robòtica i Informàtica Industrial of the Spanish High Council for Scientific Research. Procyanidins, a class of flavonoids, have clear and well-defined beneficial effects against several pathologies including cardiovascular heart disease. Now, studies in vivo are revealing the effects of procyanidins against obesity, where they prevent weight gain and adipose tissue mass increase, and against diabetes and insulin resistance, where they act as antihiperglycemic agents. Several mechanisms may be responsible for these effects. One of these, due to the key role of adipose tissue in the development of obesity and insulin resistance, is their effect on adipocytes. In this review we compile the studies that indicate a protective role for procyanidins in obesity and insulin resistance, focusing on their effects on the adipocyte, where procyanidins modify lipid synthesis, lipid degradation, glucose uptake, and adipose differentiation.  相似文献

This paper analyses the effect of job accessibility on job‐education mismatch in the metropolitan area of Barcelona with regard to both public and private transport. Transit accessibility is defined in terms of the spatial distribution of employment relative to travel time by public transport, whereas accessibility by private transport is approximated by car availability. The results obtained from a joint model for car ownership, employment selectivity and mismatch confirm that car availability matters for job‐education mismatch. Moreover, public transport connectivity to job locations favours the matching between schooling and occupation in the urban labour market.  相似文献

There is a distribution limit of sessile oak (Quercus petraea) in the northern half of the Iberian Peninsula, with its southernmost populations located at the xeric limit for the species. We present here the current distribution of these populations in the Montseny Massif (N.E. Catalonia) and how the surface area they cover has developed over the last 50 years. Using a new high-resolution map (1:5000) we have calculated that Q. petraea currently covers 64.1 ha, and is found between 450 and 1150 m above sea level with a predominantly southern exposure, with the north-facing slopes being dominated by beech forests. With regard to its recent development, 44% of what is now dense forest was, in 1956, much more dispersed while 11% of it consisted of open spaces or shrubs. Such changes clearly show that, in Montseny, Q. petraea is well capable of regenerating its forest canopy as well as colonising adjacent environments.  相似文献

Automatic segmentation of multiple sclerosis (MS) lesions in brain MRI has been widely investigated in recent years with the goal of helping MS diagnosis and patient follow-up. However, the performance of most of the algorithms still falls far below expert expectations. In this paper, we review the main approaches to automated MS lesion segmentation. The main features of the segmentation algorithms are analysed and the most recent important techniques are classified into different strategies according to their main principle, pointing out their strengths and weaknesses and suggesting new research directions. A qualitative and quantitative comparison of the results of the approaches analysed is also presented. Finally, possible future approaches to MS lesion segmentation are discussed.  相似文献

AC traction systems are 1 × 25 or 2 × 25 kV 50-Hz single-phase, non-linear, time-varying loads that can cause power quality problems. One of the main concerns about these systems is voltage distortion, because adjustable-speed drives for trains may inject harmonic currents of frequencies below 2 kHz. Since the presence of parallel resonances in the contact feeder section of the traction circuit worsens the scenario, traction system resonance phenomena should be analyzed to prevent problems. Several works addressed these phenomena, but they only drew weak numerical conclusions based on the frequency scan method. This article studies 1 × 25 kV traction system resonances at pantograph terminals and provides more effective analytical expressions to locate them and determine the impact of traction system parameters on them. These expressions are validated from several traction systems in the literature.  相似文献
