The Organic Bound Tritium (OBT) amount in the body may induce changes in the evaluation of the internal exposure to tritium, due to its different retention time relative to HTO. OBT measurements for urine are not performed routinely, mainly because of the lengthy work needed in preparation of the samples, when using the standard oxygen combustion method. A simpler and more rapid method based on liquid scintillation counting (LSC) was employed, and an evaluation was performed to check its suitability for urine samples. The principle of the proposed method is based on subtracting the LSC counts of the water phase sample (HTO) from the total activity of the urine sample (OBT+HTO). A good correlation was found between the results obtained when applying the proposed direct method and the Gold standard method. The minimum detectable activity when using this method was determined.  相似文献

Polymeric membrane ion-selective electrodes are normally interrogated by zero current potentiometry, and their selectivity is understood to be primarily dependent on an extraction/ion-exchange equilibrium between the aqueous sample and polymeric membrane. If concentration gradients in the contacting diffusion layers are insubstantial, the membrane response is thought to be rather independent of kinetic processes such as surface blocking effects. In this work, the surface of calcium-selective polymeric ion-selective electrodes is coated with polyelectrolyte multilayers as evidenced by zeta potential measurements, atomic force microscopy, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Indeed, such multilayers have no effect on their potentiometric response if the membranes are formulated in a traditional manner, containing a lipophilic ion exchanger and a calcium-selective ionophore. However, drastic changes in the potential response are observed if the membranes are operated in a recently introduced kinetic mode using pulsed chronopotentiometry. The results suggest that the assembled nanostructured multilayers drastically alter the kinetics of ion transport to the sensing membrane, making use of the effect that polyelectrolyte multilayers have different permeabilities toward ions with different valences. The results have implications to the design of chemically selective ion sensors since surface-localized kinetic limitations can now be used as an additional dimension to tune the operational ion selectivity.  相似文献

The adsorption of humic acid and fulvic acid onto Bacillus subtilis cells and activated sludge biomass was studied as a function of pH and incubation time. The adsorption of humic and fulvic acids was strongly pH-dependent and followed the same trend on both surfaces, increasing in a sigmoidal way with decreasing pH over the 2-10 pH range. This behaviour is explained in terms of hydrophobic interactions between the uncharged biomass and the uncharged humic and fulvic acids. In contrast, the adsorption of phenol onto B. subtilis cells and activated sludge biomass showed in both cases an optimum pH at around 7.0. This optimum value may be interpreted in terms of a combination of hydrophobic interactions and hydrogen bonds between undissociated phenol and polar groups on the cell walls. Kinetic studies on the adsorption of humic acid, fulvic acid and phenol onto B. subtilis cells and sludge biomass pointed to a rapid uptake of the substances, with an equilibrium time of about 30 min. In all cases, the kinetic curves were acceptably fitted by non-linear regression to an exponential function, suggesting a first-order kinetic phenomenon. The specific adsorption values collected at optimum pH revealed that with the materials used in this work both B. subtilis and activated sludge follow the same adsorption trend: humic>fulvic>phenol. The lower adsorption of fulvic acid as compared with humic acid may be explained in terms of its lower hydrophobicity rather than its lower molecular size. On comparing the specific adsorption values of activated sludge versus B. subtilis, similar but lower figures were found for the three organic compounds studied. This similar behaviour suggests that both types of biomass base their adsorption capacity on the general characteristics of the bacterial cell wall, and the lower adsorption by the sludge would be due to a lower specific area due to clustering of the cells. This is remarkable, since sludge is a heterogeneous and cheap material in comparison with cultured bacterial cells.  相似文献

When a fast moving transparent sample (with a speed close to c) is probed with a laser pulse, some artifacts can occur from data analysis. These artifacts are connected to the transit time of the probe through the sample and can mask the presence of a steep gradient of refractive index in the sample. We study this problem in the case of interferometry. In fact, the problem can affect the femtosecond interferometry of the media under ultrafast ionization by a propagating laser pulse. Two algorithms are introduced: the first based on the phase difference and the second based on visibility. Both algorithms allow for the reconstruction, under suitable assumptions, of an approximated refractive index profile from the distorted fringes.  相似文献

We present a Nitche’s method to couple non-conforming two and three-dimensional non uniform rational b-splines (NURBS) patches in the context of isogeometric analysis. We present results for linear elastostatics in two and and three-dimensions. The method can deal with surface-surface or volume-volume coupling, and we show how it can be used to handle heterogeneities such as inclusions. We also present preliminary results on modal analysis. This simple coupling method has the potential to increase the applicability of NURBS-based isogeometric analysis for practical applications.  相似文献

Interventional cardiology procedures are increasing because they offer many advantages to patients compared with other techniques: therefore the Italian National Institution for Insurance against Accidents at Work decided to start a survey for monitoring the state-of-the-art regarding the professionals involved in those procedures. The survey covered six cardiology and medical physics Italian departments. Each centre was asked to record 10 examinations for five types of procedures: coronary angiography (CA), electrophysiology studies (ES), pacemaker implantation (PI), percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) and radiofrequency catheter ablation (RA). For each examination all the centres were requested to fill in a questionnaire containing information regarding the operator performing the examination, the patient and the procedure. A total of 290 examinations were recorded: 103 CA, 14 ES, 68 PI, 79 PTCA and 26 RA. As occupational doses are strongly related to patient doses, both patients and operators radiation dose data are reported. Ratios of maximum to minimum mean patient doses across the hospitals surveyed were 2.0, 3.9, 7.0, 1.8 and 1.4 for CA, ES, PI, PTCA and RA, respectively. The calculated rounded mean dose-area product values across all participating hospitals were comparable with other values reported in the literature. In general, specific radiation protection tools were used by all operators performing different procedures in all hospitals. A major issue in this survey was the absence of information about correlation between staff and patient doses in a single procedure: future studies could be more aimed to prospective goals where occupational exposures per procedure are monitored specifically.  相似文献

This editorial introduces the special issue on energy-aware manufacturing operations in the International Journal of Production Research. The 12 papers in this special issue were selected because of their high quality and also because they deal with topics related to energy-aware manufacturing operations. Three broad challenges are collectively addressed by the papers in this special issue: energy-efficiency vs. manufacturing-system effectiveness in optimisation; the volatility in energy availability, supply and cost; modelling energy consumption in varying scales and across different sub-systems. Previous global discussions about the state of the art in energy-aware manufacturing operations are provided, as well as exploratory guidelines for future research in this area.  相似文献

The present paper proposes a modified version of the Manufacturing cost deployment (MCD) method to analyse engineer-to-order (ETO) production systems. The novel approach, named Project cost deployment (PCD), introduces two substantial and innovative modifications. To begin with, the concept of manual assembly macro-activity replaces the traditional concept of station. Then, a brand-new structure for classifying and analysing losses is introduced, that is specifically defined to deal with the inefficiencies of the manual assembly tasks. The validity of the approach is proved by a real-world industrial application. The obtained results demonstrate that the PCD method allows the analyst to identify the hidden losses and to quantify the wastes from an economical point of view. In addition, PCD permits to estimate the impacts of potential (lean) improvement activities and projects in terms of both efficiency and effectiveness.  相似文献

The finite element method is employed for the analysis of velocity and temperature distributions in refrigerated open display cabinets. The CFD code is based on the streamfunction-vorticity formulation, and incorporates a LES turbulence model. As an example of application, a vertical multi-deck cabinet is investigated under different operating conditions. The numerical results have been validated by comparison with experimental tests performed in accordance with the EN441 Standard.
