This retrospective analysis was conducted between May 1997 and May 2000 at the Centro de Atención Nutricional Infantil de Antímano, CANIA, in Caracas, Venezuela to assess the efficacy of two treatments (ambulatory versus day-care) of mild and moderate malnourished children. Inclusion criteria were: children under 10 years old with mild and moderate malnourishment, who attended a minimum of 3 control visits during a period of 12 months. One hundred fourteen malnourished children were included: fifty seven in ambulatory treatment and fifty seven in day-care treatment paired per nutritional diagnosis, gender and age (thirty nine mild and eighteen moderate malnourished children). The nutritional recovery criterion was weight for height above tenth percentile. No relation was found between treatment approaches and nutritional recovery at 3 and 6 months of treatment. In the group of mild malnourished children, the percentage of recovered patients at 3 months of treatment, that kept their recovered condition at 6 months was 83% (15/18) in the ambulatory treatment and 82% (18/22) in the day-care treatment Age of children, associated disease, acute morbidity, dietetic risk and mother's education and age were not associated with nutritional recovery at 6 months of treatment (p > 0.05). The day-care approach resulted as effective as ambulatory in mild malnourished children. In moderate malnourished new studies will need to be conducted with greater number of patients.  相似文献

This work deals with the rheological, morphological, and thermal properties of composites having poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET), polyamide-6 (PA6), and their blends as matrices, and rice husk ash (RHA) as a filler. The study determines the effect of composition on the change in viscosity and rate of degradation during processing in a torque rheometer. Our data indicates that thermal stability and degradation during processing depend on matrix composition and filler concentration. SEM micrographs show both partial adhesion of the filler to the matrices and filler pullout. Optical microscopy shows particle agglomeration and that agglomerate size increased with filler content. FTIR investigates the shifting of absorption bands of PET/PA6 composite after the addition of RHA and attributes the selective dispersion of RHA to the formation of hydrogen bonds. Our data supports the idea that filler employed here is an option to develop polymer composites with improved properties.  相似文献

Self‐luminous electronic devices emit optical radiation at short wavelengths, close to the peak sensitivity of melatonin suppression. The present paper investigated if light from a 178‐cm (70 in.) television suppressed melatonin. Results showed that light from televisions does not impact melatonin levels in the evening.  相似文献

Summary Carboxyester- and carboxyamido-terminated polydimethylsiloxanes were obtained through the reaction of cyclic anhydrides (succinic, maleic and phthalic anhydride) with hydroxypropyl- and aminoalkyl-terminated polydimethylsiloxanes, respectively. The companies’ needs to adopt changes in their way of production to maximize the environmental performance required by their stakeholders, and at the same time, to maximize their economic and market performance, have made them seek for environmental strategies and certifications. In this sense, the Cleaner Production and the Environmental Management System based on ISO 14001 have been, respectively, presented, since the main objective of this research is to identify and analyze Cleaner Production contributions to comply with ISO 14001 requirements. For such, a survey research has been carried out in Brazilian industrial companies certified by ISO 14001. We have identified the main performance factors by leading practices and variables of Cleaner Production that contribute to the compliance with the standard requirements by companies. Thus, it has been noted that Cleaner Production is an important strategy for the preparation of companies for certification as well as for improving their environmental performance.  相似文献

A new approach for building a bio-conductive interface for enzyme immobilisation is described. This strategy permits very simple preparation of the enzyme biosensor and also reveals direct electron transfer features. A graphite-epoxy resin composite (GrEC) electrode modified with functionalised multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) immobilised by 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminopropyl) carbodiimide together with N-hydroxysuccinimide (EDC–NHS) in a chitosan (Chit) matrix was prepared and characterised by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) in the presence of hexaammineruthenium (III) chloride. It was then used as a base for glucose oxidase (GOx) immobilisation by the simple method of crosslinking with glutaraldehyde (GA) with bovine serum albumin (BSA) as carrier protein. The resulting mediator-free biosensor was applied to the determination of glucose in amperometric mode at different applied potentials and the mechanism of reaction was also investigated by cyclic voltammetry, with and without dissolved oxygen in solution. Analytical parameters, as well as reproducibility, repeatability and stability were determined. Interferences were assessed using different compounds usually present in natural samples, such as wines, juices or blood, in order to evaluate the selectivity of the developed biosensor. The novel combination of carbon nanotubes immobilised with chitosan crosslinked with EDC–NHS and glucose oxidase immobilised by crosslinking with glutaraldehyde offers an excellent, easy to make biosensor for glucose determination without interferences.  相似文献

A new diol with azoaromatic pendant was prepared by N-phenyl-4-amido-3,4-dichloromaleimide with 2-mercaptoethanol in the presence of NaOH, and used to obtain photosensible poly(urethane-urea) varnish. A poly(urethane-urea) varnish bearing azobenzene chromophores, based on a poly(ethylene adipate)diol (average molecular weight—2000), 4,4′-dibenzyldiisocyanate, diethylene glycol, trimethylolpropane, and afore-mentioned diol, were prepared and characterized. The polymers were characterized by FTIR spectroscopy, thermal analysis (DMA, DSC, and TGA), and the photochromic behavior by UV irradiation of thin films was discussed.  相似文献

The microstructure and flow behaviour during thixo backward extrusion of 7075 aluminium alloy were investigated. Reheating the steel die and the aluminium billet placed into the die at the same time using an induction furnace provides rapidly a very homogeneous microstructure suitable for thixoforming. During thixoextrusion, despite the high solid fraction, the solid globules are weakly connected and slide over each other without any plastic deformation. The flow remains quasi homogeneous resulting in homogeneous induced microstructure of the component.  相似文献
